Ohhhh! I remember.

How about some "before", "during", and "after"? Like while you were doing the first paint.

a lot of the pic's of the first paint job should be on here, and I posted the damage of the storm. my computer crashed so I will have to look and see if I still have them some where, I will get the new ones some time later, maybe today. I will try and get some of the old and new if that's possible. still need to cut and buff the new paint, so it all will match once I am finished....

Made two inch lowering blocks and dropped the rear down. I like the stance now and even the traction seems to have improved

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I have been disappointed with the power and fuel mileage with my 72 Cheyenne Super. I have only recently bought it. I like all cars/truck but I have been into Fords a long time. I really couldn't understand why this 350 was such a pooch. I know it's about 4,000 lbs. and only a 3.07:1 rear gear but come on! Then I calculated my gas mileage yesterday and it was 7.4 mpg! So I decided something had to be wrong. The PO had converted it to HEI and I put a Holley 600 vacuum secondary on it because the quadrajet was long gone when I bought it. Today I decided to check the timing. First, I noticed that the timing didn't change with the vacuum line unplugged, so I got the vacuum gauge out and had 18 inches at idle. So my vacuum advance does not work. Then I checked initial timing and it was about 7 degrees BTDC. I revved it and it didn't change. I pulled the cap and rotor and saw right away the weights were so sloppy that one was kind of on top of the other so they couldn't move. I jiggled them enough to get them freed up. Put it back together. Set initial timing at 12, winged the throttle and it went off the scale (I don't have a timing light with a dial). So I took it for a drive. WOW :metal: it is a new truck! I'm going to get the parts to fix the vacuum advance and bushings for the weights. I am sure the mileage will improve too.

Nice work! Most folks overlook the basics, looks like you nailed it.

thanks, I must admit I often over think things too. The truck had been sitting in a field for a while so I was expecting a lot of things to be wrong. So far nothing major.

Towstrap that is awesome! Love orange!

Heat pressure washed my frame, engine, and tranny yesterday before the snowstorm hit. High pressure steam is a great asset.

Fixed the right front parking light, witch wasn't coming on when I pulled the headlight switch, just for the parking light. I had to ground the light housing, and that's all it took. All lights work as they should.....

I got home late last night to find all the parts I ordered from Jeremiah and Jenn's junkyard! I unboxed the battery try and brackets. No wonder my truck only gets 12 mpg: everything on it weighs a ton! LOL

I'll try and inspect the fender and radiator core support this weekend.

This week I ordered some break parts of my, installed original mirrors with 5" rounds and replaced the giant mirrors that were on it. Today I plan to get my drive shaft idler bearing replaced and hopefully get my outer rocker welded on.

Went by the muffler shop to get a bracket fixed, ended up having them install 2 new flowmastes and dumping the exhaust before the rearend.. Sounds a lot better but gonna have them install a x-pipe next weekend

mud.man.rj 10-05-2013 04:39 PM

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Haven't run an x pipe before except one in a Mustang, will it sound any different or just work better.

I installed some homemade baffles to try and quiet down my flowmasters enough to almost hear the radio. installed an antenna so I can listen to more than reverend Horton heat cd's on my radio. replaced the door weather stripping with some junkyard dodge Durango weatherstripping to try and keep the rain out of my truck. parked my truck next to a mclaren mp4-12c and came to the conclusion they are not a very good looking supercar, at least when parked next to a 67-72 c10

Hopefully repaired a leaky brake master cylinder. Cleaned up "some" of the rat nest they call wiring on my truck. There is a ton Im pretty sure I can get rid of because I think its from multiple stereo hack jobs, but I need to wait tell I can trace everything. For now its all zip tied and hanging under my dash, but atleast its not all hanging right over the gas pedal now.

I unboxed these:

Both are practically "New" condition! BUT...UPS had a surprise for me....

http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/...ps13bb7c29.jpg

Calling a body shop Monday for an estimate. I did pay extra for insurance and even paid more for extra padding.

I've already let the Kings know what's up and we are both upset with UPS. Jenn suggested I get an estimate and then she can contact UPS. Oh gosh I'd hate to have to send this thing back, it's such a beauty.

Detailed the engine bay and added a 4 barrel. Fixed some creative engineering while I was at it. If you will notice in the before shot, some PO welded the six cylinder stands to the frame instead of using the proper stands. I still have a little more to finish up.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Unhappy to have had to put my tonneau cover on today. I like the tonneau okay. But putting it on signifies that the weather is changing
and I gotta put some coverage over the wood bed.

The Boss' car comes back from the body shop tomorrow afternoon. So, today was the dress rehersal for sending my new paint outdoors. :waah:

Even MORE unhappy that the truck cover sent by a non-forum vendor (THERE's my first mistake) was $200 worth of crap.
Idiotic fit. Substandard materials for what they promised. :waah::waah:

Now, the fight goes on to return it. :waah::waah::waah:

Ya Mag, sad to say, not "all" deals are good right. Had a bad day lately, had mine sold on a guy's "word", missed selling it to 2 others and missed altogether when a word was not any good, sad to not trust people. Oh well, I believe things happen for a reason, that's life.;)
