Good idea as the next generation just might not have an appreciation for wood and toss it into the burn pile. ;)

Yeah, plus he'll miss out on the satisfaction of turning it into something nice with his own hands

Went up to the garage and stared at the Bug for awhile but it was too cold to do that for long.
Came back down and decided that watching an old sci-fi movie on HDTV was a much better idea.

It’s pretty wood you should use it . I have some Ash trees that have survived the emerald wood ash borer . Seems to be only one of the sub species I believe Blue Ash and they have to be younger trees . All the big ones are pretty much gone .

My satisfaction is the I felled the tree milled it for lumber and now I’m using it

i made some more progress on my floor project in my old car.slow going but progress.i orderedand waiting for a new bigger bead roller with a deeper throat to allow me to make the next panels, now that i'm passed the front seat area and the big "X" in the middle of the frame right under the seat and ordered some more clecos.i'm hoping to make the complete floor, held in place with clecos before i start to do any welding,in case there's revisions to make.

That looks awesome. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Did you order a powered bead roller with forward and reverse?

hi,thanks.i did order a 27 inch motorized bead roller from a dealer in Quebec selling Eastwood stuff.of course it's not here.he said when i asked about one,2 weeks ago tomorrow,he'd ship it the following week.not been shipped yet?i know what he's doing,he didn't have one and waiting for it to come from Eastwood?pain in the rear end.Pottstown PA is 13 hours away,i could've driven there and picked it up?oh well it'll get here when it gets here but i need it now cause the next panels are big.]

That stuff gets under my skin. That dealer probably doesn't keep that in stock, just orders one when requested. I always figured the investment in warehouse and inventory are what justify middleman profit.

Nice to have the correct tools for the task at hand! Looks like a pro did it!

yes sir, drives me nuts.when i asked a week ago for the tracking number,he got all pissy with me telling me to refer to my original email when he said if i ordered on Friday,he'd ship the next week, well i didn't order til Monday, that week came and went, another week is here and almost gone, still not shipped but it's paid for?if he doesn't have a tracking number on Monday,i'm telling him i want my money back,i'll call Eastwood and have them ship it to my address at the border in Maine and i'll just go get it,4 hours away.it's not that difficult or shouldn't be??

I just looked at that on the Eastwood site. Looks like a nice unit. I have the Woodward Fab I think 18" throat. It's manual and I have not used it in quite a while.

i think it'll do a good job.i looked at several but they're mostly the same, likely all from the same chinese factory?i think i'll build a stand for it,maybe out of an old engine stand i have rather than mount it in a vice but we'll see.it ticks me off waiting on unreliable people to deliver the one i ordered,i'll be at Eastwood in October when we go to Williamsgrove Speedway to see the winged sprint cars but i can't wait til October?hurry up and wait.

Pic of the curly birch coat rack I built. It had tear-out about 1/16" deep. Good thing I have a drum sander. There is no way I'd've taken off that much material by hand, and the planer would just tear out more of the wood. That stuff is hard as rock. Love that figure, though!

I hate waiting. lol
When I had my JD2 tubing bender I welded a 4x4 tube to an old wheel/tire combo as a mount.

i'll come up with something and as well i need to come up with a better base for my shrinker/stretcher stand.it flops all over the place, pain in the rear chasing it around.i'd bolt the sucker to the floor but where ever i did it,it would be in the way?

Beautiful. Im looking at buying a big from sander for large pieces . Tear out is a problem with the planer in hardwoods that have knots and or curly figure because the grain changes direction you end up going from with the gran to against it in the same piece of wood .

Thanks! Be sure to get a sander with a closed frame. Mine (Jet 10-20) is open on one end so that it's supposedly capable of sanding 20" wide wood. But unless I'm really careful (and even then) I'll get a line on the board that still has to be sanded out by hand. Also, I have to do very light passes near the end, or it will put a slight taper, bigger at the open end.

I’m leaning towards the Grizzly G1066Z 24 inch . There’s one on Craigslist I called about spoke to his wife he’s out of town till next weekend said she would have him call me back

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Holy smokes! 5 Horsepower? I hope you get a good price for it. You don't even need a planer with a mawnster like that.

It’s a big unit but the guy down the street has one and a 25” inch planer . I don’t need a planer that big but the sander works nice on glue ups. Grizzly is cheaper than Amazon even with shipping

Steeveedee 01-18-2024 10:59 PM

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Not a bad price at all! For glue ups, I made a sled for a router using aluminum angle and a 2' X 4' piece of MDF. I obviously don't make big stuff like your kitchen counter with it. I wouldn't have used it for the coat rack I posted; the router would blow chunks out of the boards, same as a planer.
