Nothin' much to do. Lightly loaded up the bed with my cooler, two chairs, and the fender protectors. Basic stuff in the cases....
I'm not really big on shows, except as a spectator. This is a driver, not a show truck. But in Mariposa (CA) tomorrow, it's $35. For that, they buy lunch and I get a cool place to park, sit, drink coffee in the morning and my typical soft drinks until we go home at 3:00. I try to stay back away from the truck so I can hear the guys that go to the shows so they can say stuff to their buddies like, "...Well, if this was *mine*, I would'a done..blah, blah, blah.....". You know the guy. Then, again, there's the great folks that just are walking around in the October sun and enjoying themselves. My woman loves to hang out and talk to folks and watch the people. I'm lucky. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
It is very interesting watching and listening to people at shows and just standing back like it isn't your truck, everybody does have a different idea on how to build it. Can't let it hurt your feeling, just have fun with all the feedback.

I was sitting up against the vendor truck in the shade and another guy I didn't know (he owned the '37 Ford coupe) was doing the same thing. He said to me, "One thing I really like about car shows is how different some of the entries are."...."Like, look at those." "Both Chevy trucks". "Both in the same class". "Now, which one would you take?" He wasn't dissing my truck....But the early 50's truck was big-time class, for sure. I said, "I'd take the red and cream truck." "But only because the silver one is already mine!" He came up to me later and said, "You know, you really had me on that one." Made a new friend. Shows are fun. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got my truck started today. Took the seat out, got the fuel tank out and dumped it and put it back in and dumped a few gallons of fresh gas in. Found out the ignition was fubar so cheated and did a little hot wire action and she fired right up. After a little gas down the carb anyway. Also found out how bad the rust is on the floorboards. Pretty bad. Got a lot of work to do,but getting a better idea of just what I'm getting into. Going to fix it so ican key start it next weekend and hopefully take her out on her maiden voyage. Hasn't been on the road in 12 years. I think she's ready.

My nephew and his friend Brian stopped by and helped me test fit my LS 5.3 in my 1971 4X4 and it did not go so well the oil pan bolts are hitting the cross member. The engine still has to drop 2.5" and slid back about 2.5". I was wonding if the big block cross member is wider. I need about 1" more so it will drop down and slid back.

I can't pick, I want both, but do prefer 67-72's. Only had 5 2wd's and 2 4wd's twice each one. Still haven't had that style Blazer yet...yet.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Ordered stock fuel-pump-to-carb lines for a 1970 Corvette LT-1. My truck has a Holley 4150 so I needed the y-block and twin lines feeding the bowls. I wanted to do it right with stock-spec parts. Every project on the engine will hopefully take me one step closer to period correct stock 1970 LT-1 specs. Also ordered linkage to convert to real mechanical choke. This stuff comes from Ecklers Corvette Parts, but they didn't have divorced choke spring and cover, so that will come from Zip Corvette.

Why THIS Truck
Quote:
I'm old and I've had and worked , more trucks than most ever will so I know a tiny bit about light duty trucks and these '67 ~ '74 trucks are real trucks yet they ride like cars and with *very* little up grades will easily tear up those winding back roads and canyons I love so much . Plus , they're roomy and well ventilated , hot or cold . I do love those Advance Design GM trucks very much indeed and I loved my Square Body '76 GMC C2500 but , these '67 ~ '72's seem a better trade off . I could have bought that nice low mileage '92 Chevrolet 1500 Fleet Edition with the V-6 , F.I. , automatic overdrive , 60/40 , seat rubber mats and near perfect white paint all for $1,500 *but* I have to feed & fix it as well as log 800 + miles every week in it so I chose the (for me) better truck and for the same reasons I'd choose yours . I keep telling folks : there's a reason Chevrolet was the most popular car/truck in America for many decades and this was back when I6 engines were fitted to 4 out of every 5 units sold . I rest my case , now go drive and enjoy your fine old truck , don't make too much fun of those poor sap brand "F" & brand "D" guys , they really don't know any better  . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
They can say the F brand sells the most trucks...but that doesn't make them as cool or any better. What truck holds it's value the most..Brand C, D or F, ya you all know.:chevy:

Mud and Nate, I'm with ya both.
On a *today* note, I took The Boss for a ride over to the kids' place. A real grandparent thing it was, too. A bunch of home-made cookies on board. She didn't get to ride to or from the show yesterday in RAT. She came in the car for scheduling reasons. She said she was sorry that she didn't get to ride the 45 miles over there, and the 45 back. So, today I turned her favorite station on the satellite radio (I usually hate the station...but this was "her ride"). I said, "Come on." "We'll take the truck." We rode over and back. When we were pulling in the driveway on the return trip she said, "I love this old truck." It made putting in the new radio worth cluttering up the floor space. She "loves this old truck". That was cool. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Pulled the Speedo gear out an replaced with a new correct size (I hope) gear and new seal. Hopefully this will stop the puddle under the transmission. I also finished the power steering lines, so I can top off all the fluids. Getting close to a first start finally...Or so I had hoped.
I was putting the new shifter linkage in, and was having trouble getting the column lever out of the park interlock. I knew the collar was broke, but was working before.....I think that it was adjusted though so that the interlock would not engage in park....not a great idea if you ask me.... So now I need to rebuild or replace the column. 1 step forward, 2 steps back |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I picked her up from the body shop after 18 months. She was leaking all over and was a bit of a sketchy drive home. It as a two hour drive from the body shop but the guys said she was ok. Seemed she just needed to be driven a bit to reseal old seals. Since then I only have a small oil leak like I had before. I do have some issues that need addressed. A bit of a wiring debacle must have happened when they put they back together. But overall I am pretty happy. I will post some pics tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Adjusted brake rod and installed new boot for rod in firewall. Got oil leak on intake stopped, changed oil/filter. Transmission pan was leaking, solved that issue and topped off all the fluids. Adjusted carb, installed new fuel float and sending unit and got water temp. gauge to working. Truck has been setting for 2 years. Getting truck ready to attend GoodGuys in Charlotte on Friday. I will finally after all these years have something to drive inside like the other members.

My grandson took a couple of pics of the truck while we visited the family.
I'm headed to ECE tomorrow to get a set of bags for the rear. I'm only going to run Schraders and the bags for now. Going to drop it 1.5" more in the rear to get it "flat". |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
In the weeds Mag, come on make the sparks fly, just kidding. Do you have room to drop it more yet, looks so good rt now.

You know, Mud, my grandson just sent me a few more pics. I'm thinking the stance works for me just how it is. I can save the money for something else.
What do you think? Maybe I'll P/Shop one for *myself* this time.... at 1.5" lower. Fast Forward an hour: Okay. It's "Shopped"...For the money, I think I'll stay on the coils. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I agree. I like it with the "stance". Truck looks great!
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I would personally leave it as is Bill.
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Thanks, Guys.
To the center of the wheel well, now sits at 29 1/4" vs 27 3/4", B/F. The more I look at the pics, the more I think it needs to stay that way, too. I really appreciate the input. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
My opinion...not worth much... I say leave it alone, it looks good as is....

To: mag,
Do you already have drop coils on the rear? Because I've heard that you can buy lowered coils. |

Replaced my lifetime warranty starter from AZ. It lasted four years. That's good for being in the desert, and running long tube headers. Love them lifetime warranties!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Mag the truck sits just right as it is, if you go lower in the back it will look nose high which will open up the front fenders to much, I stared at it for a while too, spend your cash on something else cool, hmmm..choices.:banghead:

I agree with everyone so far the truck sits fine.I want mine to sit that way. If you would/could provide more details on suspension it would give me a basis as to what I can do for mine. I was already leaning towards 2" drop spindles with stock coils, and switch out my overload leaf springs for a dropped mono-leaf spring in rear. Comments are appreciated... it sits stock so far except for the overload leaf springs in rear.(PO used to tow fifth wheel)
