This is the process for top-coating the C-10 frame...we sanded the frame down, and blew the dust off ... wipe down with wax and grease remover... tag rag off the dust and apply top-coat.

The frame moved back into the paint booth where it got its final coat and headed into the curing oven...came out looking like glass. Tiger Drylac Ral.7042 gray 90 -95 percent gloss . You always get a good finish with Tiger products. We used about 4 lbs. of powder for the topcoat on the chassis and misc. parts.

Got the cab back from the sandblaster.. GT Blast-Tech. We have to fix a few rust spots that appeared in the blasting process. We will shoot a red oxide epoxy powdercoat primer on it asap. Then fix the rust spots and starting working with the powdercoatable bondo product we will be testing. stay tuned.

What is your exhaust coating process? What type of material is used?

jimmydean 06-02-2011 01:38 PM

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck

Man, that looks awesome. Love the exhaust, too.

Scoti, there is a powder I have used that looks exactly like that called "header coating" that cures at 400 and is supposed to be good to 1500 degrees or so once cured. I was going to use it on my street bike project until I round the titanium ceramic.

The ceramic coating worked better than the powder as far as engine performance, but did not hold up to daily driving like the powder does.

I hope to see that chassis in person some day, that powder looks incredible.

Hey Kart, been following your build for a while. The frame is looking great(and everything else). I just noticed that it looks like you might be using an early mustang or falcon gas tank. Is this true? If so I'm curious about what you did about the sending unit ohms or do you have a guage that matches? I'm seriously thinking with going with that tank on my 66 LWB with stock fuel guage and need to adapt to the stock fuel guage.

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck

Scotti, The exhaust was custom built in house . I purchased some mandrel bends on e-bay and Jesse worked his magic. The coating process is burn off all oils ( bake in oven for a few hours or more) . Then we blast them with alum. oxide and apply the liquid ceramic . This is the same coating that we sprayed on the 2011 Ridler Award winner for Bruce Ricks.

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck

The gas tank is from Tanks Inc. and is for a 65 Mustang or Falcon ? We have not done any wiring yet but will be using Classic Intruments elec. gauges. Von Hot Rod white faced with blue pinstripng limited edition gauges so I hope we can get it wired up to work with the Mustang sending unit.

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck

It should be easy if you can get a guage that is for the early mustang with the proper ohms. It not I found this link to a vendor that can modify or build a sender to work with your guages. You might check them out. I haven't contacted them yet because I'm not quite ready to install my tank.

Saw the picture of the garmin nuvi and thought I would give you a heads up, there is a nuvi 765t that can be purchased as a refurb unit for $133.00 on amazon.

I build motorcycle audio systems and this little power house has all the same features as the 900.00 brothers, a micro sd card slot, audio output, and mike out put, bluetooth for the phone......keep it in mind on your next build. Kieth
