Re: Project: Recycle
Drumroll . . ..... the chassis for 'Recycle' officially touched mother earth tonight.
There's no air in the bags (no air-lines yet) & it only has shocks on the front, but @ full dump, the frame rail was 2.5" (F) & 3.0" (R) @ the cab mount centerlines w/stock spindles (15" wheel, 27" tall tire). The upper BJ's appear to be binding (or the tie-rods) because the bags are @ approx 4.5" & the shocks are still @ 12". I should have another 1-1.5" to go up front. I'm going to disconnect the TRE's tomorrow & see if there's a change. The rear was/is the limiting factor (as planned). It's bottomed out in the c-notch. I'm thinkin' it will look pretty decent & should drive low full time w/plenty of ground clearance (my objective vs. trying to lay frame). I couldn't get pics as it was too dark for pics & my cell just can't capture a good image (the shop is crowded so it's hard to get a decent view). I plan to put some schraders into place tomorrow & will roll it out in the sun for some pics...... |

Re: Project: Recycle
LOL, i am sure everyone on this board gets tired of me harrassing them and thinks i must have nothing better to do all day every day other than ask them for pics....... Well this is mostly true , i sell cars for a living 6 days a week 10 hrs a day and most of that time right here at my desk in front of this computer... so what i am saying is ...... WHERE'S THE PICS !!

Re: Project: Recycle
Beautiful chassis.
What did you use for washers under the heads of all the bolts? AN washers? |
Re: Project: Recycle
Absolute artwork. That chassis is really beautiful.

Re: Project: Recycle
That is just beautiful! I love the wheel/hub cap set up. I think that you had a 10" rear wheel made, what size tires did you use front/rear?
After reading your post about the front BJ binding, in the pictures it looks like your upper A-Arms are upside down, possibly swapped side to side (compared to other photos I have seen)? Am I missing something about that? Anyway, I am jealous of your progress...:metal: |

Re: Project: Recycle
Thanks guys.
Lolife99, I used SS lock washers (the split-lock washers are readily available). This give more clamping force on the bolt/nut & keeps the end that turns off of the fresh PC/paint. I also used nyloc nuts everywhere except for the front shocks (not available in that particular sizing). All nuts/bolt for frame, brackets, & x-members is GRADE-8. The T/A mounts got GRADE-9. Aggie91, the a-arms are mounted different vs. typical set-ups. I tried them both ways & couldn't see any difference as far as functionality. The way I installed them just 'looked' cleaner. We also installed the BJ from the bottom of the arm (again, a cleaner look). My feeling is the binding is a result of absolutely no shims for the upper a-arms. Space them out .750" or so & I think I'll be fine. The tie-rods were definitely in bind..... As soon as I raised the suspension, I could easily adjust the toe; with it dumped, I couldn't get the adapter sleeve to budge. Rolling stock is 215-70-15's on 15x6's & 285-60-16's on 16x10's. |

Re: Project: Recycle
Almost a shame to put the cab and bed on that, it's a rolling platform for your skills and abilities. Awesome :metal:

Re: Project: Recycle
Definitely the right wheel and tire combo for this truck. Frame looks great, definitely worth all the hassle. When is the body swap party? I'm in!
