Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
The only other option is to have the wheel center hole machined out larger. That is assuming there is enough material there for that large of a hole. And then of course finding someone with a lathe or a mill big enough to handle a 20" wheel.

Cragar Delux. 15x6 front, 15x8 rear. Tires are 215/75-15 front and 235/75-15 rear. It has a 3"/5" drop, with lowering spindles and springs in the front, and 5" springs in the rear.

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
Just curios, did you have to do anything body wise to get the 10's under there?
|
Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
The dude at the tire shop said it would be tight, but fine from stock ride height to 4-5" of static drop. However, I found that with air bags it drops far enough that I needed to trim the top of the inner wheel well by 1", so nothing too significant there. I am also considering widening the wheel tubs 1" just for piece of mind, but have not done that yet.

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
What offset are those 20x10?

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
I am pretty sure those have 5.5" of backspace.

22" transports. Weigh a ton though. There's a couple of vendors out there making same wheels but lighter. Still cheaper to go GM transports. I still have to paint mine, but like the look.

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
Guy's Id appreciate some advice.
Ive never bought new wheels for a vehicle before save something that basically replicated the original patterns etc, so Im struggling a little with the selections of my new wheels for my 62 shortbed stepside. I would like to get a set of American Racing slot mags:- http://www.americanracing.com/wheel/...9-ansen-sprint I need to go up to 17" as Ive fitted Wilwood disc's front and rear and Ive got a 12 bolt rear end fitted. The rear is dropped 3" and the front 2.5", though at the moment I also have 2" drop springs fitted and may stick with them. The steels Ive got at present are 15 x 7 with 4.5" back space with 245/60 front and 275/60 rear. I cant use these easily to get a size as they dont fit the disc conversions but I have been able to use them to get an idea and The seem to fit fine for width. The American Racing wheels Im looking at come in 8" width (min) so Im looking at 17 x 8 with 4.5" back space front and back with the same 245/60 and 275/60 tyres. Looking through this thread Im reasonably confident this set up will work but I thought it worth a quick post to ask if anyone else has a similar set up, just to put my last few doubts at ease. Im in the UK so I really only have one shot at this. I cant just drop into the local wheel store and returning them would not really be cost effective. |

I have a 62 step side with 17X8 wheels with the standard back spacing for that wheel. 4.5 sounds correct but I can not be sure (I can find out if you would like). I have 275 in front and in the rear. I have a 5 inch drop in the rear and they fit. With a 3 inch drop in the rear you should be fine. I might have rolled the lip of the rear fender a little to get them to fit.

Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
I really appreciate your reply Im pretty sure they will fit but its nice to at least know someone else has this combination fitted. I dont mind if I have to roll the lip. I dont even mind if I have to flair the arch a little (more bend it out that flair it). If you have time Id appreciate knowing your back space, but no problem if you cant get it it.
I do like your truck though. Beginning to wonder if 3" is enough. If my son had his way he would have me slam it all the way to the ground on air. It will be his one day and he can do what he wants to it then, but for now I need to stop him watching Fast N Loud! |
Re: 60-66 Tire/Wheel Pics
I just looked them up in the wheel vintiques catalog and they do have a 4.5 inch backspacing.
