whats up!?

i actually sanded down the paint off the firewall, i just couldnt leave it like that. i know a lot of people dont even notice the firewall, but i didnt want to leave it with thos contamination spots everywhere. pics comin by the end of the week, i already got it wetsanded with 400, hoping to reshoot in the next few days.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

ok, reshot it monday, and this is how it turned out. the craters are still there, but from before. there was no contamination this time, but the craters were pretty deep and the 2 coats i shot on did not cover them completely. kinda sucks...it looks a lot better person than these pics, but you can see them either way. im thinking either wetsand with 1500, then 2000 and buff. or..scuff and shoot a few more coats.

im not going to sand down and fill them with filler, there is just too many...

heres some pics..

and i lied lol

looks like finger paint! wetsanded with 400, fingerpainted some filler in the craters, hoping to reshoot on monday. i only did the passenger side since there will be the wires and booster and steering column in the way on the driver side....well see it turns out!

You've got more patients than me....

That's one of the reasons I Line-X my engine compartments and wheel wells. Plus it makes it super easy to clean, doesn't show scratches, and doesn't get messed up my fluids and solvents.

Gonna look good when done thought. Keep up the good work!

lol..i wish i had patience...

i was gonna leave it...but i just couldnt do it, not after all this work. im gonna only rework the passenger side, as its the flat side that everybody sees. i knew i would regret it if i didnt fix it now.

with that being said...this is the last time im redoing this lol. as long as there is not contaminents on this last spray, it should look a lot better. sooo..pics coming tomorrow, i sure hope i have some good luck

It looks a whole lot better this time, good work. The white Chevy outside was sneaking inside when you would leave the burb, and caused all those problems, it's really jealous of it's big brother getting all the garage time, haha.

lol..thats funny. thats my wifes truck. when we first moved in the house earlier this year (i specifically picked a house with a garage), she "assumed" we got a garage for her to park her truck in. that truck never made it in the garage, i parked the old burb in and never looked back lol.

anywho, hoping to maybe buff the firewall this weekend, OR, start hanging the entire front clip back on so can get to work on the body work....OR scuff up and paint the core support..i cant decide what i should do.

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

buff, scuff, paint, then hang would be the order I'd recommend :D

good idea....

i need to try to an organize my front clip bolts to make sure i have them all, trying to avoid a new kit. is there a reference as to what size bolt goes where on the front clip?

kev2809 11-07-2011 11:58 AM

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

i ended up finding all the bolts using the lmc catalog, it doesnt have the bolt sizes, but i just used my noggin and ended up having them.

i do have a quick question though, does anyone know if the stock hood hinges will work with a 22" rim?

i have clearanced my driver side fender to work with the tires i have now, which are 215/70/15's...right at 26.85" (i have about an inch and a half of clearance without the motor in). the 22's i have are 235/30/22, which is 27.55" tall. im thinking of maybe moving to 265/35/22 in the future, which is 29.3" tall. im not sure if those would clear, or even the rim i have now would clear. cant put them on yet because i still need to order adapters. im thinking of just chopping off what i need and go porterbuilt hinges, but i just dont have the coin for that now, but if i have to run them at some point, i will.

any input on this before i waste half my day clearancing the passenger fender?

Re: Project 67 DRGNWGN - 67 Burban!!

bump on the previous post, in the meantime i chopped some out the passenger fender anyways and went ahead and bolted the front clip up.

No go on the hinges man. I just ordered my PB hinges today. I have a 27.5 tire and was about 1/2 inch off the stock hinge. No cupped lca, trimmed cups nothing. Any further mod and your on that hinge. PB hinge or the grant kustoms hinge. PB $410 delivered grants $80 delivered but no means of holding hood open. You have to fab something up.

Trucks looking good man.

so im gonna have to ditch the stock setup? dang....

i really would rather have the pb setup, it just looks so much smoother. maybe i can find a set in the beginning of next year that someone is selling....

has anyone used the grant kustom hinges? i havent seen anyone run those....

only solution ive seen is like i have, reverse tilt hood or i have seen some1 move the hinges inside(closer to the motor) but cant remember what kind they were or what the drivers side looked like (with the steering column) decisions, decisions good luck thou

I think I read they were using Mercedes hinges, but Porterbuilt makes some nice ones. Kev, the burb looks great it has the right stance. Are you sure you wanna go 22s all around and not 20 22 combo? It may solve some of your clearance issues.

since i have to cut off the stock hinge area, i think im gonna go with the kit grant kustoms sell...its about 80 bucks shipped. not my first choice, but i guess ill go with it if it works. who knows, prob wont be for a few months before i get around to ordering it, so maybe ill have money saved up for the pb setup.

heres the set of rims i picked up david...front and back 22's with 235/30 tires...tires are just about brand new. i couldnt pass up on these with the price. wish i had the adapters i need so i can throw them on and really get an idea of what i will need to make clearance for.
