Just finished these. This is the second water pump I painted, because dummy didn't think to fit the first one. The GMB "OE" replacement is not an OE replacement (BBC), doesn't quite clear the factory timing chain cover. I'll be most replacements are the same.
They probably figure you can just bend the cover, but I'd rather eat the labor. A four hour lesson learned, because both were brushed. Should have bought the Delco to begin with. It's a lighter pump too. |

Swapped out a battery box is all. The bolts can be a real (^( without pulling the radiator. The box I wanted is solid. I don't see any pitting, but know better. Hopefully it suits my rebuild.
Pulled the RH skirt off the same truck recently. Fitted a few skirts on it, practice:lol: I was hoping to use it for the rebuild as well. Nice fender, but too much rust in front. So I'm in the hunt for a RH fender. That or pair of replacements. |

I got the engine fired and run in yesterday and today I put my Billet Specialties Speedways back on and put her on the ground. I went back to the 5 1/2, 7" static drop I had and I like the look a lot more. Ran to the gas station and filled her up and took her for a spin before the rain showed up. Life is good.

A year ago I tried my spray gun for the first time. I sprayed Por-15 engine enamel. Got frustrated early, cleaned up the parts and declared I'd leave any spray gun business to the pros. Bet the paint was too thick. I thinned it, but probably not enough.
The enamel doesn't brush on most smooth surfaces with great success. I brushed the timing chain cover up nicely, but that's where it ended. Today I thought to try spraying again, only this time I met their 5/1 thinning max. In my novice opinion, it could have sprayed a bit heavier. I still didn't break out the gun, used a Preval instead:lol: I really should learn to use a spray gun. In hindsight I may sprayed all the Chevy Orange through a gun:chevy: All precautions spraying this stuff. Fans, open garage, good respirator....It's bad stuff, and lingers a while. On a side, anyone know where that J-hook goes on a 71 BBC, and what it's used for? I removed it 25 or so years ago, can't remember;) I know it was Chevy Orange from factory, and don't believe it was rubber coated. I can't check right now, but it looks to take a 3/8" bolt, or even a 7/16" bolt tightly. Seems it goes on a head someplace, maybe even a stud, like off a water pump or thermostat housing. |
