I tried using 80 grit and went through about 8 sheets and only really cleared about 2' of the top of one fender and that area by far appears to be the 'easiest' to strip

I ended up using 3" green scotch-brite bristle discs to strip my truck. Abrasive paper would fill up right away and chemical stripper didn't touch the original finish.

Finished up and installed a snazzier air filter. As a kid in the 60's I remember seeing these Edelbrock filters on various muscle cars that would drop by on visits with friends of my older brothers.
I cut the bottom out of a junker oil bath base, brazed it to the bottom of the Edelbrock base, a little paint here and there to blend it all together.
A classic design that stuck with me, out with the oil bath and in with the foam.

Installed my recently re-chromed original bumper, had the mounting brackets powder coated while it was apart. Makes the front one look bad now:jest:

Its raining out today. Not much I can do outside so I brought a wheel into the shop and am polishing my Cragers. 1 down 3 more to go.

Janky, the air looks really good!

Earl, nice and shiny. I had Cragar SS wheels on my first car and loved them, except the chrome had a tendancy to peel off. Classic wheel.

FarmerSid. Thanks. Its easier to clean all the little spaces between the spokes and such and can't forget those pesky lugnuts.

Thanks AD. I found this set a few years ago at a yard sale. The guy had a sign on them that said $25.00. I thought that 100.00 was a good price on the set because they were in real good condition. Nope, he just wanted $25.00 for the lot. Sure made my day.

Here is something else I'm working on today. Hood latches off a Saab. Making them fit my tilt front clip.

Earl

Got my new wheels. Also cut out an opening in doors so it will be easier to clean and adjust windows. Used old doors to make a bolt in panel and it all will be covered when I do the interior.

I spent a beautiful weekend taking NAPCO running gear off of a 58 frame and swapping it onto my 57 frame. Getting 58 y/o rusty bolts off and grinding a few rivets off wasn't as easy as I thought, and not a lot of fun but it's done. It's time to take the cab back off, get it to the body shop and get the frame all purty.

Installed a NOS heater switch. That and the new vent door seals I installed last week, maybe the cab won't be as drafty as it used to.;)

Installed driver's side running board, using a combination of Chris' design and my own. Came out OK. Should have cut the square tubing myself instead of having the metal Yard do it. May have to re-work the front mount.

JJ,

I may be WAAY off but that looks like a middle-of-the-back-seat radio speaker from a 60's ('59?) Impala. Am I warm?

Of course, the question is where are you using this thing no matter what it really is!

Got the cab back on the "flip project" and got all the sheet metal off mine, swapped around sheetmetal between trucks to get the choicer pieces for mine and started gathering up all the pieces to make flip as complete as possible for next potential owner..

Also had a killer day picking parts with Sim6 (Jeff) at an old country junkyard that is chunk full of old cars/trucks/parts.

Cut out some rust I found in the lower front fender. Was blocking and saw a couple of blisters, further investigation with the dremel showed more. Will weld in a patch and continue.

Weather was good. Had to run to the hardware store so took the truck. Backed out of the parking spot and she stuck in reverse. No forward gears. Think the shifter is stuck. Called the wife for a tow home. Will deal with it later

Bought a '49 3100. Really nice 350 motor and for the most part redone with an older frame off restoration. Truck died on its maiden voyage 10 miles away in the middle of nowhere, looked under and sure enough the battery ground connection bottomed out and no battery power anywhere. Flatbed home and up into the air she goes and there is no possible way to get to that battery from under the truck. My dad remembered an access hole under the passenger side these trucks had so I had to take apart the brandy new interior and sure enough there it is. Someone had soldered the main power wire to the battery post...

Anyway all fixed and I'm driving the heck out of this truck and I love it.

I haven't put it back on yet. Too cold to pull it outside. 6 degrees!! If it warms up a little in the next couple weeks, I'll put it on and post a pic.
