Next, order some beltech drop shackles. It will not effect the ride quality at all, and it will lower it done level. They are easy to install with simple hand tools and a couple jack stands and a floor jack. |
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
^ I'm not sure if it's lifted or not...it could be stock, and just look really high in the back because of the big tires. Got any other pics, with it sitting on level ground?
Anyway, shackles are definitely the way to go. That's how my truck is leveled out. |
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
It definitely appears lifted. The tires appear a little over size, but they all appear to match.
|
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
I dont think it is lifted at all. I will try and get some better pics soon but we currently have a bunch of white **** everywhere! Can yall give me a ballpark on price for the belltech shackles?
|
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
If its 4x4 it looks like someone lowered the torsion bars in the front
|
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
^ 5 lug wheels mean that it's a 2wd.
BellTech shackles, $53.95 through Summit In your pics, it looks like maybe the driver's side suspension is compressed just a little in the back? Like maybe that spot in the yard is higher on that side. I think that might be part of the reason it looks so high on the passenger side rear. |

Here is my 1994 GMC Sierra Extended cab Shortbox SLE 4X4 6 lug 2500 with TBI 350, 4L60E, 14 bolt rearend. The third picture is what it looked like when I first bought it. And the other three are fairly recent ones. I bought it with 80,xxx actual miles on, which i thought was relativly low milage for a 94'. Its my daily driver. It has every option avalible except for the leather seats. It has the factory towing package, skid plates, premuim interior, casette w/equilizer etc. Somewheres along the line somebody put a work truck grille in it, which im not a fan of. lol But Heres what ive done so far with this truck:
Putco 2" Bed rails Lund Toneau soft Toneau cover Removed Topper and Running boards Red LED interior accent lights Red Courtesty lights Colt CB with hidden antenna American Racing 16X8.5 Nitro wheels with 4.5" offset Kumho Road Venture 265/75R/16 tires 3' single Thrush Welded muffler LED light bar Lund Eclipse Hood Scoops Lund Lighted Visor TrueBlue Headlights Keyless Entry and remote start Deep Tone dual Airhons Future Modifications: Custom full length center council Premuim Sound system Custom Seats Shave logos and clean it up Shave Tailgate handle and make a remote popper Shave door handles Dual exhaust with 45 degree tailpipes Limo tint on the rear windows Chrome 3" Bull Bar with Two 4" Chrome Aircraft "Daymakers" Correct Grille with Crystal Clear headlights and marker lights Cadillac Taillights Color Match Interior Accents and the list goes on and on... But thats my daily driver, Input is always apreciated :gmc2: |

[QUOTE=ApeKing;3797193]The 88 I just picked up. Tons of miles but runs like a top and pretty clean too! Need suggestions on how to flatten it out a little without losing too much ride quality.
that looks stock in the rear! i had a 90 sport was that high too!! i did a 2/4 drop on mine. i used the drop shackles and front hangers. i would try that on yours. if you just got shackle i dont think you will get it as low as you want it. |

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
Happy to finally able to post on this site - I've lurked for over 2 years with dreams of posting in the '47 - '59 section (which i still do hope to some day).
After 12 years, my dad decided to upgrade (2009 GMC Sierra Crew 4x4), so he sold me his 1997 GMC Sierra K1500 (bought new in Nov, 1997). He's taken really good care of it and it only has around 100K miles. I have great memories of traveling to many baseball tournaments in this truck during my high school years, and I hope to drive my son (20 months old) to baseball games in it too. This picture was made on the day I picked it up from his house about 4 months ago. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_to1FKnJRza0/S4.../truck%201.jpg |

Sweet looking truck and as far as I'm concerned the most desireable body style ( short box ,reg cab 4x4) of all the trucks from the 88/98/99 era. What really makes it special is that it was your Dad's which he bought new and you have memories of the truck as you were growing up. Considering the history of the truck and the condition it is in now this truck should stay in your family forever. |
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
Hahaha I have some memories of my dad and an '88 pick up. Funny story! In November of 87 I had just started a new job and was making a staggering $5.98 per hr and I thought I'M RICH I'M RICH! So I go truck shopping. I pick out a white silverado with red from the side molding down and chrome sport wheels. I work the deal with the salesman and he tells me to take it for a spin alone while he draws up the papers. My old man worked near by so I drove it by the shop to show the old man that I was growing up and buying my first truck on my own. He looked it over and grunted his approval despite the fact it was a chevy ( Dad is a die hard Ford guy). Then he asked "What kinda deal didya get?". I told him the price, the terms and the payments. He immediately says "you can afford it take it back". I was trying to explain to him that I COULD indeed afford it when he said again "You can afford it, take it back!" a little more emphatically this time. He explained to me that I could not afford the truck, insurance, maintenance, and all of life's other expenses at the same time. I was PISSED! He was right and that pissed me off even more. Well a couple of weeks ago I FINALLY got my '88! Different color but that's okay I like blue better now anyway but it has those same chrome sport wheels. I told him that story when I went by their house last week and he chuckled and still grunted minimal approval because it isn't a Ford!

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
That's a pretty clean truck, Pooh. Very nice score, and nice that it's been kept in the family. Although mine hasn't been in the family all it's life, my brother owned it for about 3 years before I bought it, and I've had it roughly 4 years now. Sometimes the satisfaction isn't just out of a vehicle being in the family since new, but just having a vehicle that was in the family. I still wish a few years ago I would have bought a beat up old yellow I6 4 speed 4wd 76 GMC longbox that my dad owned for several years, from before I was born, until I was maybe 8 or 10. I have a few old memories in that truck, and I kick myself for not buying it when I saw it for sale again.
ApeKing, that's not a bad looking truck for an 88. I was always raised a Ford kid, and was to the day I bought my first Chevy. It was pretty much my first vehicle, and I'm not sure why I bought it, other than it was a nice vehicle. It was a 1991 S-10 Blazer, Sport package, factory moonroof, all the options you could get in an S-10 Blazer, was really nice actually. Decent price, and for some reason I picked it out. That first day, my soul was changed, and I still bleed Chevrolet. |
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
Thanks guys - my dad kept it up very well over the past 12 years and although it wasn't the best timing for me money-wise, there was no way I'd let it leave the family (other people constantly asked him when he was planning on selling it). I definitely plan on keeping it in the family - I hope to see my grandkids riding in it someday. I hope to add another mechanical family member one day too - an 83 Chevy that my father-in-law bought new and still uses occasionally to hunt (you can kind of see it in the back ground of this pic).

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
Haha talking about keeping it in the family my wifes uncle bought this truck new sold it to her husband when he got a new truck in 2001 they divorced in 05.He gave it to his 16 yr old son in 08 who drove it and blew the v6 up after a yr. and it sat in his yard for a yr before he told me I could have it if I got it outa his yard.Needless to say the now 19 yr old boy wants it back now.And yes me and her and ex husband get along great!

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
yeah jb lots of plans but all depends on $$$ would love to get a 9 inch and narrow the rear but that might be too much.I also am gonna shave the gate and door handles and get a cowl hood and put a slick solind black paint job on her.Might just have to settle with rear disk and posi and some more interior work.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
way better without steps. Now do a 94-up grille conversion, body match the grille, mirrors, even the little things like door handles and wiper arms, and it would look great, especially with some clear lenses in there, maybe clear LED parking lights and LED corner bulbs, that would help it out a bit. Body matching the grille is a big one, it really makes any truck look better, mine it helped out a lot, especially with all 8 lights in the front being black. Body matching the mirrors helped a lot too, and the handles and wiper arms were a couple little things that helped out. Whenever down the road I do body work, I'm also body matching the tailgate handle and it's bezel (I forgot to have them paint that, and I lost the bezel a long time ago anyways) And if you do get a newer grille, might I recommend if you get a new one, get a GM grille, not a cheap aftermarket grille. In under one year, mine has already cracked. I think being -25 to -40 area did it, but either way, the cheap ones are cheap, and crappy. Anyways, the Blaze looks nice!

Look around on the FSC boards too. They are better for 88-current GM pickups than this site is, a lot more stuff, and way more info. Here's some threads anyways... http://www.fullsizechevy.com/showthr...o-95-front-end http://www.fullsizechevy.com/showthr...ille-and-95-99 |
Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks
you don't have to modify the front support its a bolt on affair to upgrade to the 94+ grille you do need the 94+ bumper support brackets and fillers, http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...ock-Headlights has a kit for $250 plus the brackets and filler kit that is $160
