I'm sure it's a Mack. It's either Australian or someone put the quad square lights in. It's this body, but no set-back axle:

I think your right. The number of axles would indicate Australia too.
One of the early diesel powered Mack's. |

Man that is sweet! I saw an old AC with a diesel. There weren't many. Probably near the end which was about the same year as that truck. I believe the last AC was '39.

I just came across this picture in my Photobucket. It's my buddy's you all have probably seen me show, the painted up '58 Reo. It's a factory sleeper cab now but it wasn't always. He came across a sleeper cab '58 in rough shape and it went from there. In the end it's two cabs combined. I captured both trucks this day.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Man, looks great, but what a lot of work.
|
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
You got that right. The floor and lower windshield/cowl was shot on the sleeper cab, so he grafted the two. Thn he stretched the frame. Since that he has installed Peterbilt rear air suspension. also, that floor he repaired got two big square holes cut out and boxes welded beneath to allow for the new take out air ride Bostrom Peterbilt seats. It keeps getting better. It has something like 3:42 gears now and with that little Cat it gets 12.5 mpg.
Always more to do, though. Such as wipers have never worked since we've been riding together and water leaks in a lot of places . This is us rolling in to '09 Macungie show. Man that was a wet one. Rained the whole time. My feet were like prunes http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...9/IMG_2074.jpg |

Love those old Chain Drives.
I can remember some still on the road and working in my younger years. |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Me too. At the truck shows I've seen trucks I was surprised still had chain drive.
This bigass Mack was at the ATHS National Show in York. It's a '43 https://youtu.be/owzzpA9vQXU This one was there, too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODrLp1HrrbE |

Good old trucks...

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Hey Jeff, welcome to the site. I agree they symbolize all those things. Some say they are purpose built and full of function and look pretty good. All that is true, but I say they are B E A Utiful and pretty darn functional as well...heh heh. I also like(d) how they hang onto their good looks rather than getting constant superficial style changes, like cars. Cars are built for consumers and trucks mean business. Now light trucks are right in their with cars for being marketed to the same people, although they still have more function (I mean as trucks, not wi-fi centers, navigation devices, heated seats, etc)

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
This truck belongs to a friend of mine, Dave (Beerman) Brewer who operates Heavy Traffic Trucking. He hauls classic cars. I believe it's a 1970 Pete. Beautiful truck. Hard to believe the truck started life as a dump truck.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Truck driver's dream. Truck outfitted to his liking, independent, yet hooked up with steady loads of cargo that unloads itself (with help from driver). It's cool how he added all those louvers, yet subdued them in the white stripes. One of those trucks that gets better the longer you look at it.
I know a guy that hauls produce and cheese in a customized W900L...all purple. It's not as old, I think a '99, but it looks great, works steady, and has something like 4.2 million miles on it. Been through an attempted suicide by truck incident as well where a guy in a pickup drove head-on into him |

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Those are pretty nice old trucks ,never seen any like em before .

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
If I did it was when I was a kid. My buddy has that '58 Reo. It would be cool if I could get one of these. Not too many around, though, I am sure. Reo was quite a company. They did some cool stuff like made lawn mowers.

This 61 Mack is for sale in Joplin, MO for $7,500. I guess I got this thread confused with "Post Your CL finds".

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Looks like it is in pretty nice condition.
|
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
It does look to be in decent shape. I like the look of those. Only thing I don't like is the cab doesn't tilt. Wouldn't like working on one.
