Re: My 1965 build thread
Since we are slow at work I figured I'd take some small items to work on to pass the time. I started on the cowl side panels. Welded the emblem and antenna holes up. I thought they were pretty straight until I blocked them. I ended up wiping both from top top bottom.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Man Alan I'd be happy making half the progress you are. Looks great. I did push both halves of my suburban around the shop today ( along with 2 tons of misc other crap to make room) I needed to move it up front for loading as I'm hoping to reunite the halves. I had been waiting for a part since early jan but got tired of waiting I'll just have to crawl under to install it. Miata footage cool to. I got a lil pocket HD cam from wal mart that I'm going to mount on my bike for track days. It has as good a resolution as the "motorsports" cams for 1/3rd the price

The parts fairy came by today. I ordered from Summit and the package was here the next day. That's just awesome. I sold a couple parts so I could order a few things. Many thanks for those that bought from me. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/DSC09221.jpg I also used the cab lift today for the first time. I was going to do it by myself, but had Sdailey helping just in case. We were both amazed at how easy it made to job. Thanks to the one that thought of that idea. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/DSC09225.jpg http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/DSC09226.jpg |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Here is a pic of someone else running a cold air intake. I saw it today at the local cruise in.
I like the idea. Just afraid it's gonna clutter up my engine bay. I would try to finish it out a little better if I decided to do it. Here is a LINK to some pix I took today that was posted in the general discussion section. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/DSC09265.jpg |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Alan I wish I was as far along on my truck as you. I almost got my new SD raised crossmember in. Doing some motor work. Painting the motor what do you sugguest I prime it with. I'm gonna paint it with VHT chevy orange. Or you could just come to Texas and do it for me and fix all the metal on the cab also.
Neto you can check out Brotherstrucks.com they have all the windowtrim you need. Me personally mine dosen't have it. |
Re: My 1965 build thread
What if you welded the heater box hole closed then centered a hole that size behind the carb in the same area of the cowl and made a plate to seal the carb to it.

Thanks ruffrida2005. I went ahead and put it back on after taking care of the rust as best I could. I used the rust converter and encapsulator. I used slick sand on the whole cab today. Alan that's stuff nice but needs to be thinned with a 1.8 tip. now just have to finish a few little dents and seal it.

What happened did I scare ya'll off?
Got some more goodies in the mail today. The starter came from a coworker, but it don't fit. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/DSC09311.jpg This distributor came from White Performance http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/DSC09312.jpg Got the heads torque down and the pushrods in. This engine has been on the stand for about 8 years after being ran 500 miles. I'm kind of concerned about the lifters. They are hydraulic, but will not compress. Usually while adjusting lifters I can push the rocker arm down to compress them. I didn't resoak them. I'm thinking about getting the oil pump and pan on and spin the oil pump to pressurize the engine and see if that helps. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/DSC09316.jpg |
Re: My 1965 build thread

Alan, I caught the Joekip thing early and set him packing. I just didn't get a chance to input here or back to you because of work. He definitely was a real winner.
So are any of us working on our trucks or we just kickin back in the AC surfin? ;) |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Hey Allan, just a tip when you install the oil pump, and put the oil pick up strainer, on tack weld it on the pump. A lot of engine builders do it. I do.;)

Re: My 1965 build thread
Thanks for the input on lifters. My cousin called me back plus I got some help from the engine forum to reinforce what my cousin said. I over tightened the lifters by about a round and waited for the oil to bled out of it. That was the problem they were full of oil. It was simple but confused me
I found out my cousin has a 68 camaro with a 540 Kieth Black engine. He's coming to the next cruise in. I want a ride.:metal: I will get pics. Also found out today that the federal government had the oil makers remove certain components like zinc. Because the stuff was plugging catylitic converters. That has resulted in alot of flat tappet cams failing. I've heard it from 3 different people in the past few days (2 engine builders). My cousin runs rotella diesel oil. It still has the ingredients in it. Has anyone else heard of this? Or you could ad this for about $12 a bottle. One engine builder uses it, I think I would use rotella http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/DSC09321.jpg Got my oil pump and pan on tonight. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/DSC09322.jpg |
Re: My 1965 build thread
there was a bunch of different threads about the zinc oil on the h.a.m.b., just search oil, zinc ,and hamb on google, and you should get some of them.
