I have a bored and stroked 454 which is now a 489. I use a Mighty Demon 850 cfm carb on a Edelbrock Victor Jr. Manifold. I have Brodix BB2+ aluminum rectangular port heads. A Crane solid roller street cam and SRP 10:1 pistons. The crank is a Cola 4 1/4" stroke connected to Childs&Albert rods. The rings are Childs&Albert gapless. JGM motorsports in Valencia did the machine work and I put it together. Total bill? Let's say enough to buy a new small Import car. Thats just the engine. Then there's the Mikes 400 trans and the Continental 3000 stall converter plus the Currie 9" rear with all the goodies yada yada. Hp 632@6000 torque 550@3000. With 4.56 gears and a 31" tall tires there's your 8mpg. It's no freeway flier, but it is fun to say see ya to all those new Mustangs and Dodges,Corvettes,Camaros, etc at the stop lights.

How can i post pictures of my old truck on here?

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Host your pictures on a site like photobucket. You will be given an image code for each picture you upload and all you have to do is copy and paste that code into your forum post.

This is my 1955 Chevy 3600 2nd Series with a homemade wrecker on it. It has a Ernest Holmes hand crank winch on it too.

I'm amazed you even get 8MPG :) Currently I've got a 454 with a weiand 174 supercharger in my 56, the previous owner put it together so I don't have all the details. It's only running a few pounds of boost so it's pretty mild, but the amount of gas this thing uses is insane. It also runs incredibly rich no matter how I tune it. I smell like gas for 3 days every time I take the truck out. (I love that smell, but my lady doesn't of course.) Getting ready to swap in a brand new LS3 crate motor and 4L65E transmission, it's all my little brain can think about at the moment. I want something I can get in a drive across the country if I wanted to, pro touring style. It aint happening with my current motor + trans. |

PJF
What type of fuel system do you currently use? Your new plan sounds great especially for a long haul vehicle. The overdrive trans will go a long way toward good mileage and be easy on your engine. Thanks for the compliment. |

scaled at 2k front axles 1760 rear axles w/o driver. We'll see if I need to add any ballast like I did on the truck for traction. It has caltracs & 295/50's. It weighs 120 pounds more than the old truck, but the old truck had a lot of ballast added. This truck will put down more power than the old one. |

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Hi Big Irish. Love what you've done with your truck. I am putting a GMC 302 in my 52 GMC and am very curious what all you did to your frame and suspension. My truck is in a million pieces, but I'm starting with the frame and would love to have a rolling chassis that looks just like yours. Any advice or details you can give me would be awesome! I only live about 2 hours from Toronto. Thanks.

Luv the truck. Where did you get those fender skirts? |
Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Beautiful truck. The installation of that Hemi is outstanding. You should be proud of what you have done. Best wishes for the future.

Our 48 pickup. Have addressed a bunch of niggly little things since we bought it last month, and this month we will upgrade from a 250 cube 6 & 5 speed to a 350/700R4 combo. Truck has rims & tyres off my 17 years & still not done 37 Nash project.
I keep getting side tracked by t buckets & taking them drag racing. Current bucket has blown BBC and has run 10.2@132. Still street driven & Im looking for a 9 out of it. Goal is to drive to track, run a 9 and drive it home without busting it. We have had a couple of huge earthquakes down here in the past 18 months (and 10,000 aftershakes too) so roads are stuffed so truck cant be set up low. Would like it about 2 inches lower front & back but it wouldnt be practical anymore. |
