wednesday - purchased my 70 CST-10
thursday - bought parts and materials to shoot primer on it
friday - sanded all of the surface rust on the body - put rust preventer and sealant on.
saturday - blocked and primed with black primer - bought new wheels/tires from CL
sunday - mounted new wheels and tires - discovered front drivers side hub is rotten
monday - called everywhere to no avail
tuesday - posted here about finding a '70 hub
wednesday - ordered one from a semi-local place that actually had one

that takes up just my first week of owning this truck. am i addicted?

waited on my order from infinti machine got my heater delete panels and sanded down fire wall and tack weilded al panels in place now to figure out if im guna grind them smooth or leave them

on my dd i drove it about 100 miles and replaced the fuel filter runs like new now

Oooh, oooh, let me.

Open the driver's side door on the truck. Climb in facing the windshield.
Adjust the seat and mirrors, if needed. Maybe the tilt steering wheel.

Push the odo button, if you have one, until it reads "0". If you don't, and you probably won't, make a mental
note of the fourth digit from the right on the milage counter (odometer). You'll need that later.

Insert key in the big round thing under the ashtray (to the left of the heater/air conditioning controls). Turn the key to the right.
But only for long enough so that you can hear the engine start. If you let go, the truck will keep running.

Look up. Look left. Look right. Look in the rear and side view mirrors. If you have an auto trans like mine, the gear selector is on the steering column.
Select the appropriate gear. If you are backing out of a driveway...In fact, if anything is in front of you that's pretty close, choose "R". But before you do that,
check to see if the emergency brake is on...Put your foot on the foot brake. Keep it there while you release the e-brake. Keep it there while you 1) select the
proper gear..."D" usually works pretty well... and, 2) Look up. Look left. Look right. Look in the rear and side view mirrors. Again.

Signal if you're into that. Assuming an auto trans, release the foot brake and, at the same time, use the same foot (right) to lightly (if that's the way you want to start out)
press on the big rectangular foot pedal that's all the way to the right (on the floor).

If you have a standard trans, column or floor shifter, someone else will have to chime in.

Then, drive around until that fourth digit from the right adds up to one more number than when you started. If it was a "9" when you started, you'll be looking for a "0".

Another good tip is to check for gas. I mean, check to make sure there's gas *in the truck*. DAMHIK to do this....just make sure. And, oh, you can't always rely on that
big gage on the right side of the dash. Sometimes it reads Full when it's really "Empty". Just a bad joke that is sometimes played on 67-72m truck owners.

Started my baby today !!!!!!!!! Fresh built 350 motor with lots of machine work and lots of goodies,camel back heads ported and polished,holley carb,edelbrock intake, TH400 trans bullet proof I hope stall converter, lokar kickdown kit, headers,magnaflow mufflers,black magic extreme fan. Going to break in the cam 2mro and readjust the valve lash.Can't wait to drive it.

Replaced blown header and collector gaskets with new ones from Remflex and added ARP hardware to the mix. Now I just need to get rid of these old rusty mufflers.

Back to the Jaguar SMITH'S gauge I guess :waah: .

Looking at the corroded PC there , I imagine it's just a matter of taking some serious time to disassemble the entire dash binnacle and ever so carefully hand polish each and every connection , especially where the MPC plugs in ~ those female contacts are usually brown and they need to be shiny copper colored to have accurate gauges ~ I've done several of these now and the improvement in fuel gauge accuracy and ilumination is amazing .

However , it's very easy to ruin the PC if you're rough on it when polishng .

Also , you'll need to schlepp on down to SEARS or where ever and buy some thin ignition wrenches so you can hold the inner nuts from turning as you loosen the outer nuts on the PC , as soon as they twist , the delicate PC's mylar is ruined...

Adding a ground wire from the binnacle to the cab's frame is always wise as is replacing the usually gone missing braided ground straps from engine to cab , engine to frame , cab to frame , core support to frame and so on ~ try this , your headlights will *instantly* be white at night and your battery will charge up faster too....

All these gaugse work on milliamps so anything that hinders current flow , makes them balky and inaccurate .

it's 38 degrees here today, and i'm heading out to go replace the hub with the new assembly i got.
$25 at a place in the next town over.
wheel hub, dust cap, taper bearing, bearing seal, brake drum and lug studs.
we'll see how it goes.

pricing parts and planning financially how to attack this build. The biggest question is drive train and how to get the box and cab home haha...

PC = printed circuit. the funny plastic thing on the back of the gauges that has the copper tracks running through it

It's Friday and the plan is to yank the pre - smog cylinder head off my '66 292 and get it to the Machine Shop for a total rebuild , I plan to put it on my ailing 250 then set about overhauling the 292 , not sure what I'll do with it when it's done .

hpcgmc thanks! - the truck i bought was pretty close to road ready, but the PO had done some work on the body but never sealed it. so it was rusting. rust protection was priority 1.

We continued getting the '67 cab and front clip ready for putting on the primer. I did paint and surface rust removal with a random orbital sander while my son patched a few spots and layed on a thin layer of bondo here and there.

Sanding is slow going when it gets to where hand sanding has to be done for the feathering in.

just got my baby out of mechanic pergatory. (he had it for two months):waah: it only cost an arm and a leg to get new heads put on it.:metal:

Went to the upholstery shop to pick up my truck, it wasn't done yet. The seat was back in it and the door panels were done but not installed. I was told I will be able to pick it up tomorrow. The upholstery guy still has the headliner, dash pad and sun visors left to finish.

Pulled the head off the 292 , it looks a bit grim in there .

Dropped the head off for rebuilding and made arrangements to buy a four wheel engine stand to - day after my Union meeting , maybe I'll be able to get the engine hoist and get the 292 off the ground and onto the stand so I can begin disassembling it .
