Actually did this last weekend, just getting around to updating the thread. got the drivers side welded up and primed. Still have to do some trimming on the bed to get the wider tub to fit over the corregation of the bed. Working on the passenger side today.. kinda.

http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/h...109_191626.jpg

http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/h...109_191807.jpg

and the test fit...

http://i544.photobucket.com/albums/h...116_130139.jpg

I have also decided that if I ever have to depend on my welding skills to survive, I will starve.

picked up a pair of rear drop springs and a gas pedal from the junk yard.
I had seen the springs about 6 months ago but though someone else had got them, they just hid them in the truck of a car for their next trip. the gas pedal was already removed and mixed in with a bunch of junk in the floorboard, I must have overlooked it the last 4 or 5 times I was there

Stenciled "RAT"on that $200 cover. Weather's gonna hit. Not much chance, but I don't want to see this cover on someone else's truck.

Did a short-term change-out of the glove box door (metallic "black" hammered finish paint...not really black, huh?). Just until I can find a
used one with no dents and a good chrome edge.

As you can see, I dressed it up with a pre-67 badge. Just to see who could possibly care enough to be pissed about it.

Discovered a MASSIVE vacuum leak in my engine , it's stalling out constantly , I hope can find it before Sunday but I'll drive it there anyways :metal: .

What's wrong with your generator ? . they're dead simple to routinely overhaul and NAPA has the parts .

Or cheap to buy rebuilt exchange .

Easy to upgrade to the far better Delcotron SI internally regulated alternator .

Picked up a passenger bed side and made arrangments with salvage yard to get a new windshield (new to me anyway). Now if the weather would just cooperate I could do some actual work on it. Where the hell is this global warming people a complaining about!

My right rear drum is locking up. Pretty dangerous, really.

New brake booster/prop valve (disc/drum), master cyl. New pads/rotors up front and new shoes with good drums in the back.
Multi-bleedings with no air in the system that I can see in the bleeder jar.

It's the pass rear brake that's locking up, and locked up first *before* I recently changed out a leaking wheel cyl) may be out
of adjustment ????? I don't know.

I *do* know that I've never been able to get a good enough adjustment on the parking brake to make it work properly.

Gotta play with this one. Possibly I have a bad P-valve? I'm not too happy with the overall brake performance compared to my '72.
So maybe it's a crappy booster/m/c/prop valve set up all together.

Or maybe I just need to play with the adjustment on the pass rear drum???

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Not sure why anyone would waste one penny on a used windshield when new ones are $211.00 installed , this includes a brandy new crappy Chinese made rubber grommet if you go to Safelite Glass Co. ~ they're on the Internet , just google " cheap windshields " and you'll get lots of professional glass shops that'll do it cheaply , while you wait .

New glass is one of those amazingly good dollar value things , once you look through a crystal clear glass instead of the old pitted ,scratched one , you'll be sold for life .

Rebuilt the Right front brakes again, fixed the backing plate and got a new wheel cylinder in there. A bolt broke on the back of the Wheel cylinder, and it came loose. No brakes on the freeway sucks. Also got a set of mirrors in that I wanted. Going to pull the mirrors off the truck tomorrow, and install the new ones. Might then be able to see whats behind me.

Switched my 67 K20 from Armstrong steering to power steering. Finally finished yesterday. Had to shorten the drag link to get it to line up. also had to fabricate a mounting bracket for the pump. Bought one on Ebay but did not fit. Not really sure what motor I have or what the pump came off of? also not 100% sure what the steering gear came off of so the pressure hose I bought had the wrong fittings for both ends. had to fab that up as well.. Works great though!

yes power steering is great, my old non power was almost locked down so when I put on power steering it was a big difference. that's one tough looking truck you have there. made for working hard.

Bill there are a couple of things that will make the drum brakes lockup. Rear end oil on the shoes from a leaking seal will make the shoes grabby and lock the wheel when stopping. And it's possible one of the cups in the wheel cylinder is stuck holding pressure on the shoes. I doubt the p valve is the culprit as both the rear wheels are on the same line from the front so if one side locked the other side should too. Most likely. Check the brake shoe adjustments? I hate to ask but are you sure you have one long shoe and one short shoe on each side? Long shoe to the rear on both sides?

Boog and Tom:

One thing I know for sure is that when something isn't working properly, there's something I DON'T KNOW, THOUGHT I
KNEW AND DIDN'T, or DIDN'T DO CORRECTLY...Hahahahaha!!!

I rebuilt the brakes a year ago before I was done with the build. Then, 400 miles with slight pulling to the right. Nothing as
terrible as it is now. Then the right rear wheel cyl started puking fluid.

As far as I can remember, I put it all together correctly.

But with your info and Tom's, I'm headed down for a new set of shoes, I'll re-check for proper shoe placement and adjustment...
...and if it's correct on the passenger side, and the new ones still pull (should say, "lock up" waaay early) without ever having been
"wet", then I'll pull the driver's side to make sure that both sides have the shoes long-to-the-rear.

Two sure things:

1) Something's not right;
2) It's REALLY dangerous...You should'a seen the smoke I laid down sliding toward a "surprise" yellow-to-red light from 65 out on
our rural highway.

Oh, and the third thing:

3) I really appreciate the input. Drum brakes are not my long suit. Keeping them for now. If I can get 'em to work properly, I'm
keeping them forever.
