The cut is all hidden under the cowl grille when done. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...s/DSC00717.JPG Fitting the new dash top. It's all done now and ready for primer. I need to get a pic of that. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...s/DSC00853.JPG |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I had to gut the entire instrument panel and remove the dash top to weld the inner cowl section on the inside of the car.
https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...s/DSC00870.JPG Lots of short, stitch welds to prevent warping. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...s/DSC00866.JPG https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...s/DSC00895.JPG https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...s/DSC00896.JPG |

Cleaning up the area that the new shop is going . I really need to stack wood it’s all over the place . In the future I’ll be stacking in the car tent I’ll just take off both end walls to get ventilation

I needed a stool for the shop. Instead of buying one, I whipped this out in an afternoon. It's all scrap wood, so no cost :)

Made a good contact for wood . Local tree guy who doesn’t sell firewood so he gives it away . This is the second load I’ve gotten from him . Today he said he will call me exclusively when the customers want the wood removed . He takes all the softwoods to the dump . What’s even nicer is I didn’t have to touch the wood

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
We had 13 good size alders taken down this week. They were on a hillside next to my shop. No big deal 20 some years ago when we moved in. But now some of em were very large and leaning more than I liked. The tree guy was fantastic. Cut em up in 16inch rounds, and did a fantastic clean up job.
Called a couple buddies, hey you guys want some wood? No hesitation, heck yeah. People like free wood. |

I have a nice stool that belonged to my dad that says Ford on it in big letters. I don't mind though. My butt can't read and I can't see it when I'm sitting on it. |

I’m going to mill parts of this maple . It was a yard tree but it’s got a huge burl on it so I’ll chance ruining an expensive ripping chain on it |

I'm a scavenger, too. Last week, at the end of the lane of the farmhouse I'm working on, and out by the road were the turned wood head and foot boards to a full size bed free for the taking. What a coincidence, because in the past couple weeks I decided a full size bed in one of my bedrooms could use a replacement. It has a few issues. I hauled the pieces home, looked up on one of my lumber racks for a pair of oak bedrails I wasn't sure I still had, and there they were. Filthy and needing a little work but usable, with hardware compatible with the head and foot. One thing the sideboards need are three of the four curvy pieces on the ends that help keep the bed from racking. I went to my 3-4' lumber stash and there was just the piece of oak I needed to make four new ones with a few inches left over |

Good scrap is worth holding on to. You never know what you might use it for. Still working on this shed and Chris had some Mississippi cypress from a barn built in 1915 by some of his in-laws. His MIL has a framed picture of her grandfather in the loft from 1920. We scavanged enoughso far to do the bathroom ceiling and linen closet ceiling. We wire brushed it and hand sanded it lightly. Turned out great.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
^ Don't feel too bad. I woke up at some stupid early hour and couldn't get back to sleep. Surfing the net, fell asleep for 20 minutes in spite of 2 mugs of coffee. Fell asleep again later for about 30 minutes; woke up in time for mid-day dog feeding. I have lots to do around here, not getting it done. #old
