Re: Lost My 65
I haven't been very motivated lately because of the cold.
Hacked in an old cast-iron wood stove I got for free. Sit down and take a break next to a nice warm stove. :-) http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...psqomkmawb.jpg |
Re: Lost My 65
Wood burning stove...
Sweet warmth of a lovely fire... Nothing better during a work break.. :5150: |
Re: Lost My 65
Boy that looks like an oldie.
If you have uninsulated pipe outside, keep an eye on it for creasote buildup. |
Re: Lost My 65
Having a warm stove motivated me to button up a couple oil leaks I found.
Got help for fixing the cam plug leak here: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=686246 Got help with the intake manifold leaks around the bolts here : http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=510440 Started up today to check my work. The above leaks are fixed. I really wanted to make sure, so I ran it quite some time. Let it warm up real good and revved it up really high for a good duration. And then I found another leak. It's blowing out around the dipstick when I get the rpm's way up. So searching these forums I found this : http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=444335 |
Re: Lost My 65
Revving an unloaded engine is not at all advised.
Just saying.. "Blow by" at high RPMs is indicative of rings seating improperly. . IMHO. . There is more going on than high crank case pressure going on.:5150: |
Re: Lost My 65
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that.

Re: Lost My 65
After doing much research in these forums, I ordered a Lokar Dipstick. Fit very nicely. Started the engine again to make double sure I got all my leaks sealed up.
All good. Now I can finally install the Th350. http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...psjrn4brbe.jpg |
Re: Lost My 65
Hooked up my Lokar AutoTranny Dipstick.
Installed a Moroso Th350 pan gasket. Slid the Torque Converter on (dbl clunk), and then bolted the tranny up. Tomorrow I hope to route the cooler lines, and mock up the shifter linkage. http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...pstngpn2qb.jpg |
Re: Lost My 65
I modified 67-72 linkage to work with my 62 frame.

Re: Lost My 65
Hope that the T350 and 12bolt swap all comes together well for you. I really enjoyed reading this thread as you pursued your old truck. I almost wished that you hadn't posted the updated pics at the beginning so that I could have stayed in suspense, ha. Your truck has the perfect stance. I'm partial to the squarebodies, having grown up riding in family Suburbans from that era. But your truck sits just right and makes the proportions of the sixties body come together.

I really appreciate the compliments.

Re: Lost My 65
Enjoying this also. Keeping track of all you are doing for when I decide to go from my 3-speed to a T350.

Re: Lost My 65
Lately it's been just too cold to tinker.
But today it was a whopping 50 degrees. Which is not bad working weather. Got some stuff done. Got the Transmission cooler hooked up. Found some good info here. http://Www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa....php?p=7101214 . Also got the 12-Bolt all bolted up along the brake lines and driveline. Pretty happy with today's progress. Hopefully this week I can start it up and see if the tranny shifts through the gears. . http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...psgrlmjs3a.jpg . http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...psxbifce0o.jpg |

Re: Lost My 65
My 65 cab is on a 62 frame.
The front cab mounts are located differently. I didn't want to move my existing ones in the event I ever go back to a newer frame. I tried finding replacement mounting washers, but they were rather costly. I found these for $10 shipped. Strut caps. http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/...psmtgybjet.jpg |

Re: Lost My 65
I'm excited to say I got it all going and shifting through the gears. Got it nice and warm and revved it up some to verify no leaks. So cool - all is good.
So, Next week I'll mount the cab back down and start hooking everything back up. |
