Got some parts in.

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps0da2fa23.jpg

Got the sending unit, 3/4" pipe thread plug with weld in fitting for a drain in the bottom of the tank, also got some 1/2" T-bolts for the fuel tank straps (Yeah probably over kill, but this thing is called "The Tank" haha), also got a vent for the tank, but thinking about using a different setup already because with this vent just mounted on the tank I could easily overfill the tank and this vent wouldnt work. Thinking about putting an AN fitting in the tank and get some hose and mount a filter up higher on the bed or something like that because Dieselwrencher gave me a couple more different ideas for filling the tank that I plan on looking at today.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

You should just get an antirollover vent from a place like speedway motors. That way if the DOT ever checks, it will be legal.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Yeah I will look into those.

Test fitted the tank. Gotta cut the rear cross member out and weld it in and then get some angle iron for the front of the tank for its mount. Not sure what to run as a buffer between the tank and the cross member mounts.

On my gas tank I had an 1/8" thick old tractor tire inner tube that I cut into strips and used those to cushion it from squeaking.

It is. There is a filter on the top of it but there is no way to put a hose on it. With the way that I am planning on putting my filler I could easily over fill it and have fuel running out of it. Thinking about using the stock filler up under the drivers side bed rail, seems to be plenty of room for it there.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Today I started messing around with the cross members for the tank. Need to get it basically mounted so I can figure out where to best put all the fittings for my tank.

Rear cross member
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps11ac5683.jpg

Front cross member
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...psd2275819.jpg

over view of how the tank sets in the frame
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...psfc2d044d.jpg

Kinda what my mount situation will look like
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps868e3dbb.jpg

You can see the steel plate i have at the back of the tank, that will be cut in half and welded to the top of the rear cross member. It will be where the tank pushes up on when the straps are tightened down. The front cross member is a piece of angle iron so the tank will push up against that.

I am also looking at ways to fill the tank. Right now I am looking at using the stock filler and mount it in under the drivers side bed rail kinda like so.
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps9ef49712.jpg

I then plan on making a box that looks like this for housing the stock filler.

Messed around with the tank some more today. got the front cross member tacked in and then started working on the tank straps.

Front mounts started for straps.

Rear mounts have yet to be finished.

fancy drawin' program you got there!

the straps are looking good. are you going to weld that wrapper back to the flat bar where it wraps the T-bolts?

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Yes I am. I just want to make sure they are right before I weld them.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well today I got the rear tank strap mounts made and tacked on and the tank is now supported by the straps!

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps6b941f55.jpg

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps5f2c2caf.jpg

Also rolled the frame out of the shop to clean the shop up, snapped some pictures so you can see the whole frame.

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps091e8d4f.jpg

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...psf247996c.jpg

Only got half of my shop cleaned, its starting to look like its going to rain and didnt want the drivetrain to get rained on.

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps4802effb.jpg

Now I just need to make sure I know what size I need for all my fittings and know how many I need. Then weld those in and weld the top on and I will pressure test it then.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well i got some more stuff done on the truck today and managed to spend my whole last pay check on some more parts.

Ground down the ugly ass welds that I had on the outside of the tank.
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps3daad8b8.jpg

I then moved on to make the rear sway bar work again.
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps6162d10c.jpg

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...psf68824bb.jpg

I order new brake lines tonight as well and I needed to get the shocks mounted where I wanted them before I got the brake lines and started running them so I also got the shocks tacked up today.
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...psab1f6530.jpg

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps8419d1f6.jpg

Should be getting some parts in next week and be able to finish up the fuel tank and then I will probably be broke and have nothing to do for a while haha

Thanks for the idea on the fuel tank filler :) I've been having the hardest time trying to decide where to mount mine since I've done my burban tank swap.

No problem man, I put my ideas on here so other people can use them as well!

Well today was kind of exciting, I had been waiting on a box to show up.

Been looking at ways to mount the turbo and I think I have kinda came up with a plan. Before I really get into it I need to stick my cab and a front clip on the truck to make sure I have enough room for my idea. Pretty sure it will have to move forward a little bit tho.

Hoping to make a mount that comes off of the exhaust flange that ties into the motor and then a bracket going down from that to around where the motor mount bolts. Then 5" exhaust out the wheel well back to my 8" stack that I will be running.

If done right stacks are awesome! I mean, what's cooler than big shiny chrome pipes spewing black smoke out of the top? :metal:

Sweet build man, I don't know how I missed it, going to be one hell of a truck.

I am always glad to see another classic Chevy with a Cummins sitting between the fenders.
