Nice progress....looks like good unclean fun in the mud.... So you're going to get the new engine in and drive it until you find a cab to eventually swap? Going to close off the cab corners?

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Yeah. Probably this winter I will find a cab start to work on it by the stove lol.

Right now I just wanna get the suspension drivetrain good. I need to be busting tail I gotta have it ready to drive in a few weeks (school)

I gotta figure a way to clean that crap off first... :(

Re: "Rice Rocket'

haha

Yeah a lil, I degreased and wire wheeled a whole box of bolts/brackets last nite, ive got abunch soaking in purple power now. Tomorow im giong to DG to pick up 6-7 cans of oven cleaner, gonna try that and high pressure garden hose along with a scraper, then try to get some paint down. Valve covers are in the mail I need to get my centerbolt vavle cover bolts from autozone, bought my new front shocks/pilot bearing yesterday.

Ive been busy, yesterday I went to murfreesboro wtih my gf to buy her car. And only got to play in the shop for about an hour. Today I cleaned my old alum. valve covers so they can sit on the shelf waiting for a CL buyer. No pics but hopefully i'll be drivin 1st day of school LOL

What size carb I need yall think? Healthy vtec 355.

I got em today too much projects!!! Took me a lil to find the opening of the bag LOL

I tried to clean em with purple power but its too much imma hot tank em.. I'll post pics of em clean painted.

600 edelbrock huh..have to check craigslist/lsn

No pics tonite but loads of progress!

All brackets nuts and bolts cleaned and painted inner fenders clean and 1 painted

still have to paint: MC booster prop valve brackets for booster 1 inner fender (prepped just need to spray) valve covers

Need to buy:orange paint, valve cover hold downs, steam clean or hottank valve covers, air filter and maybe carb.

Im hoping to be putting the motor in by the end of the week (wanna clean up engine bay...dont have a pressure washer steam cleaner, gonna try to get my hands on one though..

LOL, I left varsol in them to try and break it down some so the bags were a little cornfusing I guess. I hope it didn't leak much. They actually look good now. I could see rocker indentions in that crud when I pulled them off the shelf.
A 600 carb is probably about perfect for what you have but running the 500 for now is fine. You probably wont notice much difference.

Re: "Rice Rocket'

sweet! Well I wondered because 500 is advertised for 305 etc..

Ahh you did a greaat job packaging em! Guess the mailman wouldnt want oil seeping out onto his arms while carrying em!

Also, Do I need to drill a pcv place in em? (Just had oil filler)

Well 500cfm is undersized, but you are choking it with no headers for now so your not giving up anything. When you get headers switch to a bigger carb. Get headers with thick 3/8 flanges they are worth the extra $ to avoid changing gaskets constantly.

The PVC is on the same side as the oil fill. Sorry I didn't think about the other side. They are off a LT1 the breather is in the intake. I would stick a breather in it. just put some kind of baffle under it. I think some aftermarket breathers are already baffled so there is a clear shot to fill oil. If you don't think you can make it work let me know I'll send you the welded one. that has a hole in it and it's clean lol.

oldblue1968chevy 07-19-2010 10:29 PM

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Ok, so theres already a hole for pcv? Sorry I didnt look really hard.

Some kind of baffle? Please explain a LITTLE more lol, so like cut one out of the old valve covers? I think I can do it, just confused, goodnite im TIRED!!!

Here is what you need it keeps oil from splashing up in the breather.

Then get a breather to fit it like this.

These are examples your local parts store should be able to get them.

Im thinking silver MC (caliper paint) black lid on MC, black booster, silver brackets..

Drill a hole in the cover (there is a flat spot already there) and install the breather. You still want to hook up the PVC on the other cover.
What happens is air comes in through the breather circulates through the crank case and the PVC pulls it out the other side and back into the base of the carb with engine vacuum. It is to keep pressure from building in the crank case and blowing out the seals. I'm tired hope that made sense?
