Re: AD Truck Project
The threads are too long on one side of my thunderbird rack, so I was able to use a short outer tierod on one side. I picked up a longer thunderbird tierod for the drivers side. I will probably get 2 moog outers later and cut the threads down on the passenger side.
I have been trying to at the least go out and look over the truck and think about what I want to work on next every evening. |

Re: AD Truck Project
Here are a few pics of why things often do not get done on the truck project.

Re: AD Truck Project
Nice parts Billy! I'm liking that RC buggy too. Cool picture of some big air.

Re: AD Truck Project
Thanks.
The track is a local club track in Yukon at Taylor Park. This is our third season. We have built it up over the last few years and last year put in lights, a scoring booth and bought an amb scoring system. This June we will be hosting our first RC Pro Series event. I picked up some bolts and washers last night, and a 3/4 both for the upper cup. Do, I need grade 8 bolts to bolt in the bags? |
Re: AD Truck Project
I started a little work today before it started to rain and I had to move all my tools under the porch to keep working. Hopefully more to follow.

Awesome! :metal:

Re: AD Truck Project
Now it is time for lunch and a parts run. The bolt I got to mount the upper cup is too short.
|
Re: AD Truck Project
Can you not find any all-thread that size?
|
Re: AD Truck Project
I will check while I am out.
|
Re: AD Truck Project
Wouldnt have to be that diameter just big enough to go through the mounting hole and hold cup still, right? 1/2 would be plenty i would think.
|
Re: AD Truck Project
I got 5/8 all thread. It should work pretty good.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3...2/IMAG0259.jpg Getting closer. However everything is just tacked in, but once I get it outside I can see if I got the crossmember in the right place. If so, then things can be fully welded, and I box the frame at the front. I have the drivers side cup started but ran out of time. I was supposed to be at a party a half hour ago. More work tomorrow. I think I will end up trimming the cups down a bit more. |
Re: AD Truck Project
Yeah looks to be too much cup from what i can tell. Can you see if it will lay out where it site or how much more you will have to go?
|
Re: AD Truck Project
Update with more pics later this evening.

Re: AD Truck Project
Just read your build (busy workday) Looks good Billy. Nice meeting you this weekend. Later

Re: AD Truck Project
It was nice meeting you as well, thanks again. I think bbq time may be approaching.
Did you hear that Scott? I said BBQ! |
Re: AD Truck Project
For the first time since this truck entered the family back in Feb 2010 it now sets on it's own front suspension. Not quite the goal of rolling it outside but close enough. There is a ton of little things to do and rework, but I am pretty thrilled.

Re: AD Truck Project
What was the measurement u laid out for the cross member centerline
Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: AD Truck Project
I don't have it yet, because it may not be correct. I have not wheeled it out so I can see if it is centered. I have posted a few links in the last 3-4 weeks here on this thread that should help you determine your center line.

Re: AD Truck Project
This is from one of the threads I linked...
"Go to www.speedwaymotors.com and it gives great instructions. Doing a 53 also. 18.5" from center of front shackle pivot is centerline for MII. I can fax em to u also buddy." I hope it helps. The best thing to do it tack it in and then look to see if you are happy with it before final welding. |
Re: AD Truck Project
Very cool!!! :metal:
What about a laid out pic?? ;) |
Re: AD Truck Project
