just read the whole thread took nearly 2 days. very nice!! i am envious of your ability to maintain a clean work area. my place is not so tidy. i would love to find one of these to do would even give my 68 for one as nice as you started with.

Haha thanks! But I only take pictures when the space is clean...believe me I can make a royal mess :lol:

So I took care of a little project in preparation for the fuel system/tank installation. I wanted to sound deaden and insulate the back of the cab so I took care of that and insulated the roof. Peel and Seal and foil-faced bubble wrap type insulation from Lowe's were used. I heated the Peel and Seal after applying it with a heat gun then rolled it with a seam roller to make sure it's stuck on for good. The insulation was adhered using 3M Super 77 spray adhesive.

All in all a quick, cheap and easy project that should yield a good return. I will probably do more of the floor and some or all of the firewall at a later time.

No odor, that's more likely with products having a higher asphaltic contect. It's found in the roofing section.

looks good, I'v heard of guys going that route with the deadners. I've searched for a quite a bit on the subject. I've even got the weights from fatmat on the different ones they use for ex. The odor ones come from what most companies use which is the mastic compound, some are just gonna be worse than others.

The one I'm leaning toward and is more money though is the butyl-rubber. Its said to be the best dampening material, some guys sell 50 and 70mil thick.
I'v found 50sq ft of the butyl for $75 50mil thick, not made in china

do you know how many sq ft you got and how much its was?

Agree on the butyl rubber materials...definitely better options out there than peel and seal. I bought two rolls 25'x6" for about $16/each and the insulation for about $24, plus some foil tape for a couple bucks.

The Peal and seal is where the flashing is at Lowe's. I like to never found it.

Just went thru your build because I plan to accomplish a very similar setup and you were doing great! What's the story on popeye these days?

Sadly I am still dragging this build out and Popeye is not running yet, however he is not far from being done. What you can see in the pictures are a shortened and completely rebuilt '69-71 non-tilt steering column, brand new glass and rubber, new headlight buckets and guts, and new pin striping. The "Jessica Marie" lettering with angel's wings on the tailgate is a tribute to my sister who passed away in 2010 after I started this build.

It worked out well. I did move the hole in the floor down about 4" and to the driver's side about 3". I thought the column would be fine as-is but once I dis-assembled it for shortening I realized it needed upper and lower bearings and the cancelling cam/harness connection. The shaft, inner and outer tube were all cut and shortened 2". I also had to create my own bearing retainer on the end of the lower bearing. But it all worked out well, shifts and turns very nice.
