Finally made it to the end of your build Jim. You did an excellent job on this one, very impressive. Especially the top, You made it look perfect inside and out not just cut off. Your interior work is awesome! I will be borrowing some of your tips and ideas for sure. Congrats on the mag coverage too. :metal:

Thanks very much for the compliments. I've been watching your build for awhile and can relate to a lot of your work, because of the work on the 67 I did for a friend. Keep up the good work...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

oldman3 just went thru your build again specifically to see how you did your top
i didn't see how you attached the top at the windshield
i did see you used seat belt buckles to fasten the back, how's that working for you? would you do that again?
also other than a glance thru you didn't say much about the windows and how you modified them to work without the frame
i did see plywood windows so i assume you had them cut per the pattern

i am gathering info and ideas on making a roadster panel truck along these lines and figured i'd pick your brain while you still had one :D
this beige one isn't mine, just grabbed one off the net to photoshop, mine is a 59 lwb 1 ton and in real rough shape

this is mine 5 years ago, probably hasn't improved since

Ogre, thanks for the compliments. I will try to answer your questions in order.

1. The front of the top is attached with 4 socket head cap screws, 2 to the outside edges and two close to center. I made up 4 pieces of pipe to weld to the header as a guide for the cap screws. Down inside the pipe I spot welded flat washers to act as a stop, for the head of the cap screws, which aloud the threads to pass thru. Pic #1 shows how the pipe is installed (I had to cut out part of the header later for different repairs) Pic #2 shows how they go up inside the pipe and then thread into nuts welded in the top frame. Hope this makes sence.

2. Yes I would use the seat belt buckles again, but I'm sure someone has a better ideal.

3. My doors were already one piece glass, but I did have to modify the original track and there location to work with my changes to the doors. Also used a different size window channel for the frame less glass.

4. A panel like you show would look cool. I'm just not sure of how you would add extra bracing on something that long, without some side to side support. On Page 6 of my build it shows how I braced mine from side to side.

If you need more info PM me and we can exchange phone numbers, which might make it easier for us....Jim

Well we had a great weekend here in the Ozarks this week, mid 80's, so a few of us got together Saturday to drive to Licking, MO for a car show. It was 135 miles round trip, but it's a great ride and the weather was perfect, so I left my top at hom. Here are shots of us at the Houston McDonalds for a stop, then on to the show. A few pics of the cars at the show, there were around 120 to 140 cars there at the city park, which is well shaded. We had a great trip, enjoy the pics....Jim

Oldman3, sounds like it was a great cruise. I love your truck and I bet it is great running around with the top off.
