Got some clear on the stuff I painted last night, tore down the drivers door and cleaned off the fossilized weatherstrip adhesive. There's a few screw holes to weld up from some chrome vent shades, then I can flip it over and start block sanding...

ive been slacking enough that I may have to switch to the 20 minute a day rule. I did get into the garage and get steps 1-5 of the 9 0r 10 wiring steps completed. that's progress and I'm good with progress. I also welded a little more.

Disassembled 12 bolt to install a 3.31 gear & carrier I got from the Portland swap meet. I’m glad I did, my spider gears were so worn it took hours to beat out the main pin.
I’m also glad to change the 2.73s, and all for $150 with bearings. Just need shims & seals!

the diff looks nice and clean. a man after my own heart.
when I do a diff the whole thing comes apart including the vent fitting. the vent fitting thread, the carrier cap threads and the cover threads are chased. I run a wire brush, that fits the axle tubes snug, on a long shaft in my drill all the way up and down each axle tube. then scotchbrite/roloc disc the gasket surfaces and seal areas. then I use a garden sprayer with a long wand and solvent to flush it all out. brake cleaner and compressed air to dry the solvent. shop vac to get the last dried up remains that get stuck in the low spot of the center section. then the internals get a complete cleaning and check/replacement. THEN I am ready for the assembly part. if it is gonna be awhile before the diff goes back together a styro coffee cup in each wheel bearing and pinion bearing hole and cardboard (or the diff cover) over the big hole and a plug in the diff vent hole will keep things clean till you're ready.

I'm curious as well. I had an older version throttle body kit from a company called powerjection. I liked it. it had some issues but overall it was usable. this was in 07 or 08 so I'm sure the new kits are much better.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

ive been trying the 5 minute a day myself. once I get out there the 5 minutes usually turns into real work time but its been fun. today I was trying to install the main line fuse for the a/c.the harness places this close to the end because they believe my battery is in the floor. its nw under my bed. I went to install the fuse by the battery so I could then extend the wires and I didn't have the correct hardware. so my 5 minutes was spent finding a good location for the fuse then going to ace to get hardware. tomorrow I may actually get it bolted in.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

The best thing I did was trash the wiring harness that came on my truck and bought a new complete wiring harness that was pretty much plug and play. It was worth the price of the kit.

Very cool. I can't wait to hit some drive ins.i have to know what banjo wheel you have. I'm pretty sure that's what I need for mine. Got a link?

I found a visor on Craigslist. I’ve been looking and even used ones range $3-400.

This one was someone’s barn find and he had no clue what it fit. I bought it for $65 not knowing whether it fit an AD truck. I knew I could easily get my money back if it didn’t work. It turned out that it was not wide enough by two inches, which was only 1 inch per side. So I fabricated some adapters and now it looks like it was made for it. It even had matching patina!

got into the garage for about 30 minutes today. that's not as long as I wanted but I came to a spot I was stuck. I got the main line fuse mounted to the battery box at the rear of the truck. I went to attach it to the pos battery terminal and I don't have a wire connector large enough for the bolt. that's where I got stuck because the hardware stores already closed. its progress though. I bought a compressor bracket from a forum member that should be here in the next week. I believe by that time all the wring will be completed.

You guys getting stuff done has gotten me back out there, hope I can keep it up.
I went out with the thought of starting the left kickboard piece. Oh yeah, no problem, I'll get it ready and make a pattern, one problem, the cross brace was in the way. Well, There was no reason for it to be there anymore so out it came. But it was NOT easy with the cab stuffed up against the wall and the doors on not having a good shot with the die grinder to cut the welds, I had to get creative. But it's done, that's all that matters! Tomorrow I'll start on the kickboard area.

Brian, you need a bigger garage, or less stuff.

Brian you need a bigger garage for all your stuff, lol.
we all know once you have "stuff" you can never get rid of it. what if you need a part off something, to give to somebody you don't know, for free, 20 years later after storing that part and moving it umpteen times?
been there,
got a bigger garage

MARTINSR 04-18-2018 12:48 AM

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

What's a killer is there isn't a bunch of stuff in the garage at all. My son's 302 is on an engine stand and my six for the truck is on another engine stand. That and the darn bench and a shelves, is it. I have actually dumped a BUNCH of stuff I had in the shed and back yard. I am thinning out for sure. All I have now is stuff to build the truck.

I count that as working on it. ANYTHING you do is working on it, it is one step closer to getting done with those fittings right?

I did NOT think I would get much done tonight, five minutes was a max. I ended up getting quite a bit done clearing out all the metal needed for the kick panel. Tomorrow, making a pattern for the new metal. After did that, had a 6 mile walk, didn't plan on that long either.

Got a pattern made for the kick panel, cut the piece, trail fit it 248 times trimming it and bending it 234 times. :D The last photo is a knife a co-worker bought me. What a great bunch of guys I work with. I lost my pocket knife and asked him to keep an eye out for it (he is our janitor) and he comes walking in with this knife for me. Now I can't carry it, I ended up buying a new Kershaw like I had and told him so, but he still got this for me. What a great guy, love seeing him every day. And he has seriously changed how this shop looks, since he came aboard it is a different place, from property line to property line, no kidding!

Anyway, got something done on the truck WHOO HOOOO!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

wiring , wiring, and then I wired a little. I'm on one of the last steps in the wiring dept and that's okay with me. I went and got a new soldering iron from the home depot. its MUCH better than the old one I was using but even it has issues with 10g wires. I have two more wires to solder and I believe I'm done with the wires. I will need to go back and double check everything while I'm looming and tucking everything in but I think that's it. I received my brand new compressor bracket. I got a great deal from a member and I'm stoked about it. I'm planning to get that fit tomorrow and then painted.

Got the drivers inside window moulding welded and finished ready for chrome.
The drivers side is all done, turned the cab around (which was more work than the welding) so I can finish the last few things on the passenger side.

I'm shocked that I got into the garage today. I finished routing , soldering ,and connecting all the wires for the system. I have NOT gone back to loom and tuck them yet. I will need to stop by good ole harbor freight tomorrow and buy some loom. once I loom I have just the under hood to complete. installing compressor and connecting all the hoses. I will probably have to purchase or make the metal lines that go to the condenser.

I took my truck out for a drive today! It was fantastic. She's running great, and I'm anxious to dive into a bunch of little things that will make driving more enjoyable, like new door & window seals, weatherstripping, and then diving into the interior! Here's a picture of my pickup today. Here's a few more photos of the truck I took recently. Build thread link in my sig.

Been doing some work lately. Installed drop spindles last week and started getting my exhaust run out back after installing the 4 link a few weeks ago. I had them dumping in front of axle but it was too loud and getting everything messy. I priced SS pipe and fittings and decided I didn't need that. Ended up buying bent fittings from parts store and cut and fit as needed. I painted it with bbq paint so I hope it will stay.

One thing I will mention is if you have a 78 G Body clip and change to drop spindles you will have to change rotors and outer bearings too. It is a one year spindle ( I believe the only difference in the outer bearing and rotor). Couple more pics of after drop and some more exhaust shots. Last picture is a 3" fernco adapter I cut strips out of for hangers lol. I will find some better rubber with some thread in it but this will work till then.
I only got the passenger side done on exhaust, parts store only had enough for 1 side. I will check with their other location tomorrow.
