Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Looking good man! Sorry no real update to show you...the snow and cold make it hard to work in the garage for long. And after I replaced the mirror on my sister in law's car (she took it out on her garage) I was done in the cold. But I am making progress.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Dennis, I think I would tap the hole in the bellhousing and add a stud to mount the tube. I dont think I would drill and tap the block though. Just the bellhousing should be fine since the tube wont need much to hold it in place.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Dennis, if you get a different one let me know what the part number is so I can do the same. Or send me yours and I'll fab it to work. ;)

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
you got it buddy...

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Next time I go to the garage I will take a couple of pictures. If there is a part number on it I will get it. There is a 10mm bolt that goes in the hole to attach the transmission to the engine. There is an 8mm stud that comes out the head of that bolt that the transmission dipstick tube goes on then a nut holds it on.
Here is s great place to look up part numbers IT TAKES A LITTLE SEARCHING THOUGH THIS LOOKS LIKE THE TUBE AND THIS APPEARS TO BE THE DIPSTICK I'll check those part numbers when I go to the garage. |
Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
As long as the OE dipstick will fit in the truck, I say use it. No sense making new holes if you don't need to.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
your not butting in man... yes they actually fit great but the passengerside frame rail needs to be notched just a little bit. a shape like ( about 1/4".
late night last night;) draggin86 came by and we got the floor pan cut out!:metal: Amy took a few pics that i'll post after work. i have to get to work. crazy... i was up till 11pm slept till 2am and going to work by 3am! have a good day guys!! oh yea, i got my fuel line flared in the mail today!thanks Bob:D and i sent a message to the trans Xmember guy asking what was up and he responded in less than an hour and said sorry for the delay we'll throw in a tranny mount for free and it will be shipped as soon as the paint dries!(tomorrow) awesome service:metal: |

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Yes mine is a 4L60 but a 4L80 will attach the same but I believe to be a different part number.
If you go to the first link in my post above (it takes a little searching though) compnine. Click on the left panel where it says chevy light truck. Then click the year that the transmission is for. Then go through until you see a picture of a transmission. You will look at a bunch of additional pictures until you see one with a picture of a dipstick and then click on that picture. Below that picture will be a list with all the part numbers. You can then just take that part number to a dealer, GMparts direct, bygmpartsworldwide, or ask for one at your local pick and pull. The tube only lists for about $20. Its the dipstick that is expensive but they are the locking type with the red cap/lever. |

today i have to get some weld through primer, seam sealer, and por15 to coat the inside rocker panel just in case. hope the xmember gets here today so i can get that on. and maybe start cleaning and grinding the fire wall down to weld that seam. my goal is to have everything ready on the fire wall and get painted by the 1st. then off to the line x place for the bottom of the cab. then set her on!:metal:

Looks like good progress man, now you can make good use of those Lamborfeeti's you have Mr. Flinstone! Get a face shield too, then you don't have to wrinkle up that face of yours when you are grinding. |
Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
I have to admit, I kinda laughed at the wrinkled face too! It just always looks funny when people do that. Again, great work.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
:ennyd:thanks for all the great comments guys!:ennyd:
i need some help though... i went to napa yesterday in search of a 3/8 npt coolant sensor. all they have listed is the 1/2. i honestly think the 1/2" is too big because of the flange on the exhaust manifold and i dont want to use the adaptor. they did find a 3/8 sensor but the ohms at 220* is different than the stock one. i didnt get it because i want the gauges to be a direct replacement(autometer). what 3/8" sensor should i go with? any vehicle years or part #'s? ive been just gathering supplies and had to order the extended floor pan from captkaos since the 1st one i got is too small. still waiting on the back ordered twist-tite high psi hose from summit and the trans x member. need to order a radiator( natural finish, inlet/outlet on pass. side, with e-fans and trans cooler) order the s&p headers, and send the harness out. $$'s going to start flying... |
