I sure was pleased with my decision to go with an automatic. I'm getting ready to go from the TH400 to a TH200...beefed up a little. I need some OD. I thought the TH200 was a little girl tranny fer ever, but my buddy that does trannys got with me and convinced me it was the right thing. It sure worked as far as my budget was concerned. Any comments are welcome, as I haven't done it yet. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I was going to go with the 200 but my trans guy talked my out of it. They can both be built up well and some like the gear ratio a little better and it is lighter, but he said I could get a better trans with the 700 and there's more readily available options for strengthening it.

Not today but I have installed my gauge unit. Yesterday I bolted up the tail gate and hooked up the Cig Lighter.. Not really a cig lighter but a power outlet to charge my phone or run my GPS...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Not quite my truck. but work toward the resto of a '65 this weekend
Bought an older 210 liter compressor from a friend last week, collecting this week. Happy at £100 for it. Plan is to clean it and service it, then use it to paint the Chevy truck. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps45c5bf60.jpg Years ago I restored a 1963 VW Beetle from this..... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse4e26b8e.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd5c16931.jpg In other news, I went over to help mate Martin to put up a car port frame yesterday, started at 0,5'C at 08.00 and turned into a good day. We ended up working till about 19.00 which was about 2 plus hours after dark and then I went back today to help him get the roof on as well. Bunch of pics of the process. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc6687758.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps81737979.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psd4ba3307.jpg Front corner post was actually correct. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps1a9b6860.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psef5973eb.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps7c3ea3f4.jpg After dark we carried on with the neighbours spotlight http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psb58d26f8.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse628c29c.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps59afb9fd.jpg Today we got half the roof on when rain stopped safe play. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps704c5b3e.jpg Of course the whole motivation for this roof build is so that Martin can work under some cover over winter prepping his truck. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2243b540.jpg And that pretty much brought another weekend to an end. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Last week I went to bleed the brakes to my newest addition and while doing so the left hose burst. I bought new hoses but of course they were rusted on. so for a week penetration oil soaked in. The right hose broke loose with some channel locks but the left side was being a beast, I took care of it though with some heat from the propane torch. A little heat and it busted loose.
After that is was brake bleeding time and of course while doing that I smelled gas.. Oh boy.. The rubber line that goes from the tank to the frame was dripping. Off to the store to get some new fuel line. After all that I took it out for a drive.. Oh yeah forgot to mention that the column shifter would not even budge so last week I sprayed penetrating oil and it freed up also. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I changed the coil, cap, rotor, sparkplugs, plugwires. Just have to find how come I don't have any power anywhere.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Installed a wrecking yard sway bar $20 and some new bushings $22 tonight after work. What a TOTALLY different truck! I can't believe how easy and cheap this swap is and the amount of bang for your buck you get.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
well today was a good day. re furbished the tank fuel hard lines, and all new 5/16 fuel line. Took her on a short drive for the second time in owning it, got to admit a whole year of hard work definitely feels sweet being behind the wheel. also got a neet little goodie for it. floor shifter rubber cover, looks great, really dressed up the inside/ cut down road noise a bit.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Finally got around to swapping out my clusters. Actually get to see what kind of oil pressure and temperature the little engine runs. Kept my speedo so the miles stay correct.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Looks good. Question, what steering wheel and horn button is that? Like the looks of them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Thank you. I'm not 100% sure. I bought it locally and he said it was an early corvette wheel.

I replaced the front wheel cylnders and brake shoes today. Just one leak after another. The only sad part is I will probably swap in Disc brakes in January. I just needed them to last untill then. The left wheel cylnder was leaking pretty bad, what a mess it makes..
I also repainted the hub caps. Here are some before and after shots.. Which one do you like best.. I have to say the new version fits better. Need another coat of orange.. ;) |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I was up early on Saturday to get over to Martins today with the truck, to get a 4x8 sheet of MDF and my tall ladder to his place so that we could complete the rest of the carport roof for his truck resto.
It was really great to get the truck back on the road again, its been some time. http://s294.photobucket.com/user/nik...ps1ee75518.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps1ee75518.jpg Martin's truck earning its keep. We were done with the roof after dark, and by 5pm I was on the road home again. http://s294.photobucket.com/user/nik...ps0e61bca3.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0e61bca3.jpg Every time I drive my truck it leaves a HUGE SMILE on my face.\ The cost of fueling it up, disappears with the sound of that V8 rolling down the road. Looking forward to the new year and getting the body and paint sorted. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I drove to Sacramento from SF to get a $35 turn signal switch and when I got there found out they don't sell that one anymore but they do sell the $68 Autowire one that is "Made In the USA". I only needed it for a few months but I bought it anyway. When I swap out the column to the automatic column I will put the new switch in that column.
I drove back home and installed the new switch and then all my brake and turn signals worked.. :metal: I also picked up a rear veiw mirror and new windshield rubber.. I think I will install the rear veiw mirror today. |

First off, markeb01, that interior shot is awesome! That diamond tuck looks perfect and the gauges and switches looks great as well. Perfect execution. :c2:
I was actually able to get new tires put on the truck and get rid of the old mis-matched dry rotted ones. I had been holding off trying to find some steel wheels and get rid of those nasty cheap chrome ones but I guess there aren't any more steel wheels left lying around in Southwest MO apparently. :( I also bought some model paint and repainted the blue bow tie and the red in my side emblems. Started the black script in the sail panel as well. Looks a little better. No pics yet of that. Maybe tomorrow. I did paint the grille and bumper back to white a couple weeks ago. I posted a crappy pic after my electrical fire, here is one, though not much better, but I still think it is far better than the black grille and bumper. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Washed mine and drove it ;)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
My chrome grill and bumper came in the mail yesterday, so I installed them today. Damn the original bumper bolts were all rusted and frozen. I had to cut them off with a wheel cutter.
