There is a dismantler near me in Brentwood that had three 64-66 C10's when I was there a few weeks ago. No good grills but a few good grill surrounds. I can't remember if any had a good drivers fender. I can see what these guys have available next time I'm there, probably early next week. It looks like your bumper lived through the carnage. What else do you think you need?

mattbert56 12-22-2013 04:36 AM

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

just front core support, grill, driver fender, rad support is of inner fenders are fine. but thanks for the quick response. this is my DD truck so im guna patch it for now but was just gearing up for body work n paint. so hoping to stay kindof on track with time.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Repost from my build thread--

Here we go a little deeper--I yanked the rear floor section out tonight. I'm almost done with removing all the undercoating and I think the wheel wells will be the biggest pain as it's really thick and stuck on pretty good. Oh well--just letting the air scaler do it's job. I only ended up breaking two bolts during removal of the rear floor--but decided to finally do it. I will now have to wrestle with the idea of installing a "truck-style" rear floor--or if I'll do the plywood again. If I do the plywood--I'll have to source similar style rubber coating--shouldn't be too difficult. Or--maybe carpet?? Likely rubber.. ORRRRRR--maybe put some nice stainless runners atop the plywood or a raised protective surface?? I dunno--we shall see. Either way-having the floor out makes clean up very easy..

Here are the pics--
someone really hammered the hell out of the inner parts of the wheel houses.. I don't know why--

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=18917

you can see the two halves of plywood-measured out at 5/8" thick. The rubber top almost seems like it had a layer of asphalt between it and the wood--it does NOT peel off.

Let's see, I changed the oil,
Put some heat in the motor and ran the valves (hadn't done it but once since freshening the motor in Feb)
rotated the slicks
wiped it down with Nextel to purdy her up a bit...
dumped 5 gallons of fuel in it and went for a drive down town to terrorize the natives :)

(it's so fun having a street legal race truck)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Merry Christmas everyone.

Nicola got me some plates, which includes a 1950 plate from a Russian tractor.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc60e8091.jpg

I got her a bunch of girly stuff and some pipes, a pipe rack and a decent reference book on smoking pipes for her collection.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps8af38249.jpg

After prezzie opening (the kids were here too) they carried on watching Disney movies, which they do every year.

I went down to the garage to sort out a few bits, refit the signs and plates on the shed that the storms took of the other night.

Then I mounted all the number plates and loads of others I have recently traded and collected etc.

I also checked the trucks oils, tyre pressure and lights, just a general check over as i may be using it tomorrow to go to Farningham to the yearly Boxing Day classic bike get together with some friends, including Woodsie and Martin.

Once that was done I needed to scratch another itch.

Last week a pickup truck lost its canopy spectacularly a couple of miles from here.

It ended up in pieces on the side of the road, and a few days later it was tossed over the Armco barrier into the bushes.

I have wanted to build a removable aluminium canopy for the rear of the truck that can be used for camping if mounted on a set of legs.

The rear sliding glass was the only bit that was not broken up, and I saw it as a perfect addition to the canopy, against the cab rear.

So armed with some leather gloves and a hacksaw and spare blade, I went to see if it was still there, and found it......

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf5b0b644.jpg

Cut out the glassfibre back frame and removed the glass before the council come to clear it away.

Now sitting in front of a fire, cheese and biscuits and a nice coffee......

Perfect end to a great day.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps4aafb338.jpg

Looking forward to finding a cheap or free aluminium caravan to strip the ally sheeting from to cover the canopy in, using a pair of stainless portholes I got from the tip for this job some time ago..... and will still figure out the rear door and latch/catch.

Watch this space too.

After inner brace installed and patch tracked in place.

You southern guys probably are thinking "so what?" but up here in northern Illinois it's a rare December 28 that's sunny, dry, and 50 degF. Got a lot of nods and grins especially from those who saw these trucks new back in the day. Fun drive! Tomorrow, snow is predicted with a low temperature of -3 degF predicted overnight to Monday, when I have a 10am appointment at the range to vent my winter frustrations.
:bomb:

Me and the little lady took the 66 out for a drive and bike ride. Then downtown to grab a bite to eat. Even though we were doing 10 under on the hwy we still got thumbs up haha. Gotta love driving home with the cool dim green lights on the dash. I love this old truck.

I used 3/4 marine grade plywood to redo my floor and carpeted over it. If you are running headers I would strongly suggest dynamat on the plywood and then carpet. Also , the floor should be installed when the body is off the frame, I did mine with the body on and it was a PIA.

After fixing a "new" oil leak, took the '65 and went to a friends and bought a C20 rolling chassis. Starting a new dually project. It already has a good 14 bolt in it on coil spring rear. My C30 disc brake FE will go right in it. I have a 6.5 TD and an Allison for it already.

Will post a build thread when it actually starts.

installed new sending unit, but truck wont start getting a lil gas from line at carb.,not sure if theres not enough gas or if somethings wrong with fuel pump

mud.man.rj 01-01-2014 12:01 AM

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Should have still had fuel in old pump to start it up, maybe something to do with the sending unit pickup, I would try filiing the fuel line up first from carb down to the pump just to prime it and see if it continues to run, hope so if not when it use the bit of fuel used to prime it then back to pump or tank.
