Re: What did you do to your truck today?
poured the oil into my new 327 - went to crawl under the old girl an hour later and there's a sizable puddle under the truck... reached down and felt around the drain plug - thinking ****e man - so disgusted I walked back into the house and told myself I have a mess to clean up tomorrow... figured it just wasn't going to be my day.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Fun reading through here ans seeing daily progress on randomness so I'll play along.
Today/this week I painted my new wheels a color I like to call "Cherry Coke" and got them ready for mock up. I also cut out all the old floor bed metal (had previouslly put it in to cover the airbag set up) to get ready for my wood bed to go back in. Which I also stained and cleared. Lastly I sprayed the dash in it's first coats of metal flake to "motivate" me forward on the interior design. I'll start up a build/progress thread soon here. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
last weekend got the 454 set in truck (65 one ton camper), and the th400 in. Had to modify engine mounts on frame and trim back top of frame rails, built radiator mounts for cross flow radiator out of donor vehicle. hope to finish up this weekend and get running. will post pics later.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I would say new bumper, but maybe paint it white. Depending on what look you are going for and if the front bumper is chrome.

Put a can of sea foam fuel additive in my truck today. :chevy:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
While not actually something on the truck... more something for the truck to go on... Installed a two post lift while temperature wasn't in the single digits. Tomorrow I need to pickup some hydraulic oil and finish up the wiring before putting the 65 C20 on it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

|
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Bumpers does look good, exh fits nice underneath it too.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Not sure if its a OEM bumper. It is a used one . Has a few nicks and scrapes. Truck is a driver. Ordered brackets from Classic and they fit well. Now I have to get the correct tag holder, filler panels and right bumper bolts.
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
i got my correct bumper bolts from aspensautoaz.com they sell usable 60-66 parts you get 6 bolts, washers and nuts for $10 plus i think $7 for shipped. i just wire wheeled em and the come out great!!!! ps the bolts for the brackets to frame are different, they dont have the rounded head, just a hex head. i found a guy on CL and grabbed 4 from him.

they have em, they work on the back bumper also, cuz i used em. both on front and back bumpers
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
You can get those bolts at Lowes.
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
true, lowes does have hardware items. since im using only period correct items, i went with parts that came off a simular truck. also the hardware may not be the right grade for bumpers, and if it is the price is higher. one other thing the nuts have a groove on the outside that looks cool. ps im kinda particular bout the period correctness so thats why i shown what i use...

Took my trailing arms off to cleanup and discovered a rust through spot. Looks like I'm now in the market for a replacement set.
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
sand, fill, tap, weld, grind. The bed will never be ready..
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I agree, if thats the only spot with a rust through issue, then I would cut that part out and weld in a plate on both sides, wire wheel and paint the set. It just depends on if thats the ONLY damage, I have seen pics of these rusting from the inside out at the seam where they join, which hopefully isnt the case here.

Spent today and Saturday installing an aftermarket column shift linkage, replacing the shift shaft seal in the transmission and changing the plugs & wires. It took forever to get the indicator to center in the P R N D 1 2 letters on the column and the shift shaft seal still leaks. Guess I need to pull the trans pan and remove the shift shaft & see if it has any burs or nicks on it. CPP now has their linkage on sale for $39.00. The one I bought just used all thread and I didn't like the way it looked so I slid a piece of 3/8" stainless tubing over the all thread to make it look a little better.
