lots of work went into that one for sure. take a minute to check it out and find the changes done. even the lights on the roof that trail back would be a job to get right without a bunch of warpage etc.

It's rather strange that the seller doesn't say anything about the 250 six in it. That's a pretty slick little truck for someone who likes the build style and color combo and isn't up to building one.
You can buy a correct door post tag and stamp the serial number on it but that might not fly if you have to take it to a state where it would have to be inspected. |

I sweat bullets when i took mine to register it in OR from CA. It had the original tag which was barely readable if that. DMV didn't even look at it!!! The took my out of state paperwork and went with it. Much ado about nothing!!

When I moved back To Washington from Texas with my 48 in 1977 it had an Engine change notation on the title and used the number off the door post. The WSP inspector didn't pay any attention to the Engine Change note as Washington uses the door post number to begin with. A quick look at the door tag that was pretty well covered with paint and had the spot were the numbers were scraped off so you could read them and fill out the paperwork.
The only time the printed info on the plate might come into play is if you were pulled over heavily overloaded or pulling a heavy trailer and got checked for being overweight. Years ago the gal who was selling me my tabs asked how much weight I wanted to show (you pay tax on tonnage here) and then listed the truck at 1/4 ton which is the minimum for a pickup. |

The last time any official actual looked at my door jamb tag was like 1985. I stopped to help at a accident and the CHP walked over to where i was parked off road and demand to see my tag. Looked at tag, wrote vin down and then gave me a ticket cause he didn't like where my license plate was. Went to court with factory manual showing plate was EXACTLY where it was when it came from factory. Judge chewed CHP ass for wasting time. ZERO respect for CHP after that.

I have a 1955 F-900. The VIN tag is screwed to the glove box door.

Back about 30 years ago Washington state put a pretty excise tax on your car every year when you registered it. Some expensive cars had over 1000 bucks excise tax on them then and it wasn't uncommon to have two or three hundred dollars tax on vehicle a couple of years old. There were a lot of guys who kept an old beater in the back yard that they registered for a minimum tax and ran the plates on their new car then. As long as the cops didn't run your plates you were good.
A buddy of mine who had a wrecking yard said that there was a number of guys buying wrecked cars with good titles and then stealing a matching car and running the plates for the wreck on the stolen car around here back on the 80's. He had one in his impound that he had towed because of that. The insurance company that had paid the owner of the stolen car had that one picked up from his yard. Who ever stole the car didn't make an attempt at changing the vin tag. |

i didnt know it made a difference where the plate was mounted as long as it was visable. my jeep has the plate under the front bumper, my '49 has it on the left side, my wife's TL has it under the front bumper. I see lots of "ricers" have the plates either on the dash or on the windshield.

Was in middle rear of bumper where the "divit" is on 54s. I stopped to help and they basically abused me. I verbally abused him in court and stated it was my opinion he was not competent to be an LEO much less carry a gun. All of it went on record including being chastised by the judge. With that and two other unfortunate incidents I Like many have lost all respect for CHP and now would not stop to help them under any circumstance.

I've never seen a law that states that a plate has to be in a specific spot front or rear as long as it is visible and not hidden behind something.
That cop would have gone nuts over my 77 Dualie flatbed with the 10 ft bed as the tail lights and license plate are on a big steel plate at the end of the frame about 30 inches in front of the back of the actual tilt flatbed. The hoist and bed are so heavy that I loose about 1200 lbs of carrying capacity. |
