I've got cheap guns off the tool trucks. The painter lets me use his guns. The orange was sprayed with Iwata ???400. I think the tip was 1.4. He also uses the SATA's. I sprayed DP90 over my bare metal. Then did the metal work and primed with a 2k highbuild. I wet sand with 400 and seal. I rushed the stuff I just painted knowing I will have to repaint for several reasons. The fenders have some solvent pop and the inner fenders were hard to paint both sides at one time and get all of the nooks and crannys. I will have to repaint the top of the inner fenders. I just wanted to get something done. Painting something motivates me cause I feel like I'm making more progress even if I have to repaint if that makes sense. I don't think I let it flash long enough between coats cause I've got some solvent pop. I also used rapid hardener cause it was friday night and I wanted to take the parts home. I baked it for 15 minutes and it was dry. Normally we bake at 150 for 30 minutes with regular hardener. We started using PPG Glamour clear, I love it more than the 884. I normally kick the heat on with in 10 minutes of painting. I've painted several cars and have alot too learn. Quote:

Re: My 1965 build thread
Oh, hell, I wasn't trying to nit pick you. I think it turned out great. I wouldnt do any repainting on the inners, but thats me. Once its all shot, sanded and buffed it will be a super sharp truck. I like that orange a lot. Not to often do people do solid colors anymore. Everyone wants a mettallic or pearl or Kandy, etc, etc. I like the solid orange you chose.
The gun your painter uses a ...Iwata-LPH400? Ask him how it compares to a SATA 3000. I've always wanted to buy an Iwata, but don't know anyone who uses one everyday. Again - looking good! Danny |

not to steal your thread, but here's a 64 pontiac lemans I redone for my buddy at work. Ive been thinking about something similar paint scheme wise on mine when I get it ready for paint. hes a cowboys fan so we went with "cowboys" colors. The second picture is where I started on my fenders .. lol im still far off. Im stretching each fender 2 1/2" so i got a ways to go yet. I look at your build thread for more ambition to do mine so I dont get burnt out.
I think i may have your orange n blk painted on my toolbox i use for all my blocks and sanders and grinders. I shot it orange similar to yours and black and then threw a harley sticker on it. harleys - my other love. |

Didn't make it out to the shop tonite.:sumo: I spent some time looking for someone selling a junky SBC engine so I can rob some parts off of it so I can get my engine and tranny in place. Also wondering and trying to locate a good place to get wiring connectors for the harness install. I need a good source so when the time comes and I know what I need I'll know where to go. |
Re: My 1965 build thread
what parts do you need to put it in the frame

Timing pointer 8 " Paintable oil pan Fuel pump plate and push rod Distributor and clamp- White Performance Oil pump, screen, bolt, drive rod -White Performance Push rods-White performance Numerous bolts I'm sure i am missing something. I stripped what ever was needed to get a numbers matching engine back in a 75 vette I had. This engine has about 500 miles on it. I'm mad at myself that I sold the 283 out of the truck cause I got tired of it being in the way and I needed some cash. Most everything I needed was on that engine. Note to self, don't sell anything until project is done. I was hoping to find someone with some extra parts that i could use. It looks like i will order from White Performance when the time comes. I've heard alot of good stuff about them. |
Re: My 1965 build thread

I also got another tilt column today for free. He put a manual trans in his truck so he changed the column. It needs to be rewired, but I did say it was free.:metal: http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08844.jpg Also got some new storage today.........also for free. It came off a tool truck. I've got to go back and get another shelf. It's a awesome place to keep hammers plus the drawers. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08845.jpg |

Give this outfit a try for electrical connectors and accessories: Hot Rod Wires Bill Stanglin Garland, TX 972-240-6851 www.hotrodwires.com bill@hotrodwires.com I bought some factory blade connectors and empregnated cloth wire loom material, that is a reproduction of the shield on the temp gauge wiring on these trucks. They were setup at the Sunflower Swap Meet a few weeks ago in Wichita, KS at the Kansas Coliseum. |
