That gasket was perfect, except for the innermost bottom trim groove the shallow one was not cut quite all the way (+or- 3”) to the corner on both sides. Just a few minutes with a razor blade as our glass guy did, or you could trim the trim to fix this. If you look at the picture above (frogs helping) you’ll notice the lower trim is not sitting flush near the corner, that’s also why the corner pieces are not installed. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=880 Got it back in our garage last Friday during the heat of the day which was about 15 degrees! First clear day all week and I can report no barrel rolls on the freeway. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
The cab looks great and I'm glad to hear you didn't lose it on the way home. That would be a bad deal! You can keep all that white stuff you have too.

Thank’s, Ryan! We were joking around at the paint shop about that Misfit episode, think it was staged? Strapping stuff down on a dove tail can be iffy, especially with only one strap over the pinch weld area, oops! Greatest snow on earth they say! I don’t ski so… :ww:
Bolted in the high hump and bang, on its nose. Fished out the cab light harness and washed some slush and shop dirt off the bottom. Noticed with the glass and stuff it’s a little top heavy so I added some safety bungee’s! |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Cab is looking good.
The show was staged... it had to be! that incident probably kept the show on the air. What seat are you putting in it? |
Re: 72 K30 Build

Re: 72 K30 Build
Man, if it was staged, they could have used my rusty old cab! I would have traded them straight up before they loaded it out of the body shop. You almost have a cab over going on now.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Those seats are going to look really nice in there. I think that you may have hit on something, maybe you should do all the under-dash wiring while you have the cab on its nose. Got to beat laying on your back with half your body bend over backward out the door opening
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
Looking good Brett as always. That truck will be hauling stuff around Utah in no time.
I love the seats. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
There was no way that Misfits episode couldn't have not been staged unless they are so retarded they don't know how to use tie down straps, which to me is a shame because these cabs are not exactly being reproduced and that one was savable.
Your cab looks damn sweet. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Nice build...Man! Just wondering where did you buy your front springs?

Undercoating on the cab and inner fenders is done, didn’t get what I was hoping for from a rattle can and in hind sight wish we’d done this using a Shultz gun (next time), but hey live and learn. The great spray off started with a real old can of Keystone 970 that’s no longer available, back when this stuff was new it would give a nice chunky texture and the fumes would knock you into next week (probably why it’s no longer). That one’s been on my shelf for over 10 years and what came out was like clumpy buuuggggers, ended up that was the only chunky texture we got. Everything else pretty much laid down like thick paint, first 2 cans of Evercoat that put a thin coat on everything. Ran out to the local AutoZone and grabbed more, 2 cans of the 3M stuff and 2 cans of the Rust-oleum, all that they had. Mainly just to build up the thickness a little bit more and still hoping to find one that would give some texture (not). Before starting this my friend Tony from Hot Rod Body & Paint (he recommended the Trim Black stuff for the top of the dash) tried to warn me that if I was after texture in a rattle can this Dupicolor truck bed liner would do a better job. |

Glued in some replacement insulation just prior to righting the cab. Next up the fresh air cowl flapper got installed, could’ve probably kept installing stuff prior to putting the cab on the frame but that would be just too easy!
|
Re: 72 K30 Build
I have been thinking about how I am going to insulate the cab. How did you come up with this? keeping it stock? I have seen many people use a plethora of insulation ideas. not sure what is best.

Re: 72 K30 Build
In post 886 it looks like a HF trailer your using to transport your cab. I bought 1 to. And I'm sniveling about the cold in California 36 in the morning and 60 in the afternoon no snow. Looking good.

The center vent and duct cleaned up well, used some double-sided tape to install a new gasket. Took a silver Sharpie to the original bezel and it’ll pass for ok. Loosely attached a new cowl seal to perhaps relax some folds from the way it was packaged and the center speaker looks like it’ll be a squeeze! |

That vid was copied from a diesel swap site from a while ago I believe. I'm pretty sure those runs are from Byron Illinois October 2012. We haven't video'd any runs for a long time. :uhmk: It hasn't been out for a while either. :mm: |

Thank you, Mike! Lots & lots of little jobs left like this one.
Next up, how to install the center speaker to look right? Mrs. 7dee2 is quite crafty and just happen to have a remnant piece of foam she’d picked up from a local craft store (Michaels). After seeing just how light & rigid this foam material is we went to the store and got some more. They also had some polyester felt from the same manufacturer that should be fairly UV resistant a little 3M 90 to attach the felt to the foam and we have a speaker grill. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Brett, you are totally making me re-think my insulation plans for my firewall. Or maybe making me think about it in the first place! I think that the pains you are going through to make it right will pay off. The speaker grill certainly looks as good as the original. Nice job knocking off these tasks!

Thank you, Rick! You know if it looks good, runs good, and drives like it’s new it’s a pleasure to own and a quality build. If it drives poorly, stuff doesn’t work, it rattles or feels like a tin can it’s usually a sign it was just thrown together and it’s just not as impressive.
Added some double-sided tape to hold the speaker grill in position. The attaching bracket that came with the speaker left it some ways from where it needed to be. After straightening and reshaping it the speaker will now help to hold the speaker grill in place as well as putting it in a better position for sound quality IMO. Sorry, for the bad pic, the windshield was dusty but you get the idea. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
I did the same thing to Hulk jr on the center speaker bracket. The sound in the truck is much better with the kick panel and the center speaker than the kicks only..
looking good!!! :metal:on |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Nice work on the speaker. I hate to say it but start looking for a new speaker now. Mine lasted 1 week before it started crackling and popping. Totally not cool.

Installed a known good wiper motor (RV donor) that was missing the washer pump cover? Installed a washer pump rebuild kit with a new cowl to pump gasket etc. My plan is to test it once the rest of the system is installed, could have bench tested but thought this would be just as easy and it's installed when done. Broke out a trash guard from Old Air Products to see how well it would fit. Initially I’m impressed, it seems to be a pretty slick product so far as long as it doesn’t rattle on the final install. |
