Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Hey Frizzle, I thought you were grafting in the taillights from a fleetside pickup? Am I thinking of someone else's build or have you just not been able to get to that point yet? Regardless, one of a kind build, that thing looks SWEET, even without paint. Good Job.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Congrats on the article Frizzle! Its cool that both of us made it in the same mag.. Josh did a good job. And you ride is looking cooler and cooler.. I would love to see it in person at some time..

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Thanks guys. I'm diggin it too. Anyone notice the 69-72 lower trim with the 68 clip? Not sure I've seen that done before. I'm doing it because 1) I don't want to buy 67-68 side trim, and 2) I need it there to make the separation in paint colors. What colors? Well I still have time to waver all over the place on that but right now I'm leaning toward Red/White...
On the tails, yes that is still planned. I just wanted to get it back together and driving before I start slicing again. The quarter windows are new. They cannot cut tempered glass (or weren't willing to). I made a template and had new ones cut/tempered. Cost only $180 for the pair. The new rubbers cost almost as much as the glass at $145/pr :o TVBlazer, that was cool for us both to be in the same mag from the same board. I can't wait till mine is as complete as yours. Cool story on yours too. That's a keeper :metal: |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

SWEET, Frizzle. I think that will be the icing on the cake for this build. Good luck. Eric |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
The truck tail sections had to be "rescued" from a truck bed. They'll be treated well on the back of this ;)
Man I need a digital video cam. Today when I moved it back into the shop I rev'ed it a bit and OH MAN does it sound good!!! :metal: No I have not been driving it. Just moved it out for some fresh air and back in. Now it's ready for some major upgrades. I wanted to drive it before winter but the rain will be here tomorrow... I gotta let you guys hear this thing though. :D |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Heh, ya sorry guys I've got a few items I'm waiting on, started another class, and had to tinker with the clown car a bit lately. It's all dialed now so next week should be a good one for some Tahoe progress.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
HA HA I didnt mean to make "clown car" its nick name LOL.

What'd you end up doing about the whitewalls on the "CC"? |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
No worries OB
BBO, it started flaking before I even drove it  It took more time to take it off than to put it on... I'm going to wait for the 13's to die and I'll get some 15" steelies and real WWW's. If nothing else the excersize convinced me that it needs them. |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Playing with spare doors. Sorry the iPhone doesn't take great pics in low-light. I'll have to switch back to the real camera. This is the door I got from CG via Brad:

Tracing the window frame to make a template: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0764.jpg? Corners will swap angles for use on the other side of the truck: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0787.jpg? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0788.jpg? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0789.jpg? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0790.jpg? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0792.jpg? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0793.jpg? |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
With the template flipped (Porsche Posters make good template material; Thanks Britain) and the corners welded up. Still needs the lower 6" modified to fit in the door:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0794.jpg? To do that I moved the straight piece from the back to the front and used a curved piece from a truck door: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23.../IMG_0798.jpg? |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Looking good, so are you still going reverse? Also did you add and subtract from the two side posts for the different lengths yet? If memory serves it is right about 1/2" or so.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I don't follow what your accomplishing by flipping the frame.
can you explain, please? |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
He's making a 4th door, like Rokcrln did. To do that you need a mirror image of the back door on the passenger side, and since they never made a back door for the driver's side...
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Yes, 4th door. Yes, suicide. Kevin I extended the lower/rear of the outer frame with a small piece along with the curved extension I took from the truck door.

BTW, my first thought when I saw the Yokohama poster was that you were trying to infuse a little ricer into the truck... then, as I looked at the car, I realized it was pure German engineering you were after. Guten Arbeiten! |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
OK so now what are the plans for the door it self? Are you just going to run it back wards? Should be sweet with clamshell doors!

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
well duh, i was stuck on the idea you were modifying it to have one piece windows and couldn't see how it would work
just ignore me :exit::lol: |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I love what you've done frizzle, to me your truck still maintains the character of the original even tho highly modded. It will definately be a one off creation. I only wish i had the skills to crate a work of art like you have.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Does this guy ever run out of ideas?
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
So you have plans for both rear doors to be suicide?
I am sure that’s the plan but I was wondering…… |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
thanks guys. The other side will be lambo.
