finally finished the blazer....
almost a waste of a kit..lol used just the 3/4's, part of the frame, and the int tub. cab and front clip are from the revell hot rod truck, seats from a '99 silverado, and the big block is built from parts from the spare box...
prob be the last big 4x4 build for awhile, once again our dollar is in the toilet, and my resin caster just doubled(!) his shipping rates again...a $1.25 t-case is now $22.50 delivered to my door...nope, not likely....:waah:
wife found a few more cars at a garage sale, plus i got a tow truck and another '66 sub in the stash. i do have 2 t-cases left, no more big tires, so thinking a stock 4by build on the sub....maybe time to brush up on a few cars as well....
couple more vettes, a '56 and a blah-ferrari, euro trash....

nice job on the build ups. Wanted to ask you what are you using for glue and paints now ? I haven't put a kit together for decades now and just curious what stuff is good to buy now... Thanks

thanks!
actually i use pretty much whatever i can find if it's the color i like. my '66 panel i used paint from the '80's!....
for small details i just use Testors, Humbrol, and Model Master mostly. Tamiya paint is nice, but expensive up here...
for glueing i again use Testors and dollar store instant super glue. White glue is great for clear parts, dries clear if you get it where you should'nt.
i do have an airbrush, but being lazy (cleaning...) i rarely drag it out anymore, if i can find the color in a spray bomb, i'll go that route. i do have an affinity for Krylon flat or satin black for chassis 's. i have never had a paint job or chassis go wrong using Krylon. and if it's real old paint ('66 panel) instead of pushing it threw my airbrush, i'll use this detail gun i got....
pretty hard to go wrong with most materials out there now, i remember building models almost 50 yrs ago with c**p glue and lousy paint
Attachment 1851933

have'nt made it to the shop lately Dale, but 2 of 4 rockers we're just going to replace them, other 2 are good.
been buying and restoring parts for it though..
last 10 yrs or so i been running a billet grille....
Attachment 1851934

just for a change-up, i dragged out my stock grille, fixed a crack in it and shot some new paint on it...when the truck gets painted, i'll get buddy to paint the middle band same as the truck...green...
just and i mean just painted, have'nt even pulled the masking off the back yet..

some new cab marker lights and tailgate lights. new Custom Deluxe emblems.
my son bought me the wiper blades, steering wheel cover and a new back-up lite to replace a non working one for christmas
Attachment 1851942
new window runs and door seals for all 4 drs. also got new winda regulators for the fr doors. them objects wrapped in the newspaper is new drip rails (4)
Attachment 1851943Attachment 1851944

got 4 new dr handles, dr bumpers, fuel tank bumpers, tailgate bumpers and new dr locks on order. everything else is cleaning up or restoring real nice...
check out what else my son made for me.
i only have fuzzy dice ever hanging on my rearview mirror, and the dots keep falling off the current set, so son made these dice out of blocks of balsa wood, light weight, last forever, and the dots won't fall off...i think he did a darn fine job, even got them the color of the crew

new front rockers to go in, plus the drivers cab corner, found some bubbles on it

ya, a little bit of work, but it's coming along nicely. one of the guys i work with is friends with one of the body guys doing the sheetmetal work on my crew. he was done there the other day and showed me a couple pics on his phone, front inner and outer rocker are all new and looking good, as is the pass rocker, cab corner is cut out but the new one is not in yet. only dent i could see left was in the roof. i'll prob go down there next sat and drop off my grille and take some pics...
while waiting for it i dragged out this sub i've had since last yr...
Attachment 1864715

as parts are waaay to expensive right now, this will be pretty much box stock.
i have one 205 t-case left, so it will be 4by. dug threw the parts box, came up wit these goodyear tires that should look mostly period correct with the steelies and hubcaps. hood is not the color, just off my 1 ton for mock-up...
Attachment 1864716Attachment 1864717

instead of just another sb, going to re-hash this '60 strait 6 into more of a '66 strait six. had to scrounge up some axles, will prob just use the diffs and make axle tubes
Attachment 1864718

depending on when my crew gets back, could be a fast build (lol) or a slow build...

i'm starting to get stoked about mine...
some sheet metal fitted in...all needs final welding
new inner and outer fr pass rocker, there was a soft spot on the rear rocker, so it got replaced, as did the cab corner. body is lookin' waaay straiter now, you can see what a mess it was and how it was all wavy
Attachment 1865850Attachment 1865851

drivers is looking much nicer too. fr inner and outer rockers as well as a piece of floor. rear rocker was the same as the pass side so said the hay with it and replaced the outer, and the cab corner. have'nt seen the bottom of the cab this straight in many yrs....nothing like say Chromaholic's masterpiece, but good enough to haul the camper and atv trailer with..

was never crazy how the cucv brush guards have just a piece of strap steel on the front between the mounts. there always bent.
my 9" lights would not fit anywhere on the cucv, so i cut out the middle bar carefully, drilled some holes for my lights and welded it across the piece of strap steel. the guard feels way more solid and less "bendy" now, and picks up the "loop" design nicely i think

last sat we rolled my crew back into the shop and took out the winda's and popped off the door handles...little more sanding and it's good to go....
finished my cucv guard. i left as much as the military paint on as i could- good stuff whatever it is, then red oxide'd it and painted it with some satin epoxy paint...but it's not very satin-e i think.....hopefully it'll keep the rust at bay for awhile
Attachment 1877016Attachment 1877017

buddy's K20 we were looking at is kinda a no-go. his friend served in Afghanistan, 5/4 ("trailer park boyz"), that's what the 5/4 on the front fender of his K20 stands for, as well as a CF badge and flag. his intention is to give it to his buddy- for free. so i threw him the cucv bumper and d-shackles that i just picked up. he really wanted the guard, but no way
so his other friend has this 1/2 ton for sale.
one yr newer than mine, '86, 350/700r4, tilt, a/c, new dashpad, newer paint, everything works. going to look at it this sat, son likes it

was digging threw spare junk and found this grey thing, so i added some styrene to it and it will become the rooftop a/c unit. installed the other inner fender, made a door. found a panel with 3 sq door handles in the junk pile, wish i had 1 more for all the storage boxes, and made a flip down step under the door

got the bumper on and a spare tire...could'nt belive it, but i also found a "vinyl"spare tire cover in my junk pile...where it came from is beyond me, but i'll take it...lol
started a jack, got the tailwheel from an airplane that will go on it once i got the length.
have'nt found any scale propane tanks, so i started scratching some out of exacto blade containers, round glass from airplane bomber turrets, and some styrene. i'll wait till there done and see how they turn out, if they look like cr*p i'll make a tank cover...
and my ever-so-smart wifey found a place that makes 1/25 scale doll house stuff...so i got a fridge, sink, stove, bathroom set up and cabinets coming, and cheap, less than 30 clams...:metal:

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

took me a couple days, but i just read all 37 pages of this. wow
you put more attention into these models than a lot of people put into fullsize trucks lol.

i tried my hand at modeling a couple years ago, but pretty much box stock. id like to build something that resembles my first truck (ferd) but it would involve splicing a couple trucks (cabs) together and im not sure my skill level will agree with that.

on that note, would you say there is always a big difference between 1/24 and 1/25? or does it vary model to model?

the easier option for getting back into it would be doing dads first car, 76 nova- still has it. but it has a excessively striped paint job that would be a real bear to recreate.

wow, you actually read all 37 pages...lol
you know, if you want to build models, you picked a golden time in modeling, manufactors have been coming out with some cool new releases lately, and the aftermarket/resin casting parts business is exploding.
you can get just about anything or any part for your models now a days.
waaay easier to detail up or modify kits today than 20-40 yrs ago
here's a pretty good list of aftermarket sellers..
http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/t...ket-directory/

like i say, don't be afraid to try a funky paint job, you can even get stripe and flame masks for your models, like these ones from the Lazy Modeler

if i was going to build a ford, this would be my choice...
Attachment 1882495

if your looking for a '70's era ford, pickings are kinda slim, AMT makes one, but unfortunately they picked the super rare and super ugly long wheelbase camper special. i have seen a couple of these trucks where guys move the rear wheels up to where they should be and it looks much better...
Attachment 1882497

and there is some '80's and '90's, lots of versions, most are just re-boxed, or have new decals added, but there all basically the same. there's also the "melted brick" fords from the mid '90's that Revell puts out
Attachment 1882498Attachment 1882500Attachment 1882501

and of course there's the super expensive, but super nice F350 Super Duty that Meng Models is cranking out
http://www.internetmodeler.com/scale...uty-Pickup.php

if you do buy a Meng, watch out, they also make a 1/35 version of the s.d. and it's much cheaper than the 1/24 kit

speaking of, i reg swap 1/24 and 1/25 parts. it's always a cr*pshoot on fitment, what's 1/24 for revell, may be diff than 1/24 amt, sometimes 1/24 from diff man. will fit right into another makers 1/25....like i say, some fit, quite often some mods are needed

but mostly, you need to build chevy's...:metal:

The truck I've got is a 95 extended cab flareside, so Im thinking I would combine the amt regular cab flareside and the extended cab f350. But that involves getting the 92 front on the 91 cab. If I get them both next to each other and they dont look like a good match, I'll just build them both the way the box intended lol.

And the Nova isnt necessarily complicated, just a lot of narrow stripes
