Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

As shown in the early post .
My power steering pump that came in my kit from POL is a Saginaw pump , that has keyway style pulley fitting , unfortunately the pump on the new engine I got has a push on style . I obversely wanted to use the new pump with the new box that came together . After looking on the net and asking all the trade stands at the supernatts my only option was summitracing so thanks to Don another part is on its way to his . The way things are going me and Rian will need a plane just for parts

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psiltmqzzl.jpg

I did manage to get something at the show on Sunday though a flexplate cover and a set of seals

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pseerltrwk.jpg

Today I dropped off one half of the serpentine bracket , to Colin from my motorbike club , as the top section is broken and as he works in a welding shop. He will weld up the alloy for me .

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psxwmrdcpp.jpg

He will also be welding the the stainless steel flanges , to Rian's exhaust when he collects them from Darren

I also got a call from the Sandblasters ,to say that I should be able to collect my crossmember and trailing arms next Saturday. So next weekend should be busy .

Tonight on the way home I again stopped in at the yard to drop off some bits for the boys, happened to find mate Martin another retractable hose reel and a small mains driven 250kg winch for another buddy.
Funny how you look for an item for a long time, then two in two days.

Chatted to Ta2Don earlier as well, couple of pics of parts that have to come back in the baggage in October.

Firewall pads?

LOL !!

That is about right for me, but Martin....??

More than likely a full set plus steamer trunk Ian.

And we are not done yet........

I have parts coming from Missouri as well as the S/S bed strips and fixing kit from Mar-K as well as a full set of side mouldings going to Clem's as well......

I see my life filled with panic in October.

I have just added another part to the pile and joined your Bird club . It was $25.00 plus $12.50 shipping to Don's

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

On Friday during the day, I called the Sandblasters as they were doing my crossmember and trailing arms . They told me they would be ready on Saturday mid morning .

So on Friday night I thought I would strip down my engine ready for paint .

On Saturday morning I got a call to say they were ready. So after speaking to Rian in the morning to discuss the front upper and lower wishbones , he told me he had taken about 4hrs to blast his heater box . The thought of standing in his garage blasting them all day, was enough for me To load them into my car before I headed down to Ashford . It's about a 60 mile round trip . After speaking to the blaster and striking up a good deal for cash, I collected my parts and left him my wishbones .

Engine stripped ready to be cleaned and painted .

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8qf6otpf.jpg

Parts collected from the blaster

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pskzqutrru.jpg

The next task was to remove the old bushes . They were really stubborn ,so after trying to push them out with a socket and bush removal tool, I gave up and got out the torch and burnt them out hey presto out they popped ready for paint .

Heating them up works a treat

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psliqdyduv.jpg

Bush removed

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pscmdbutdb.jpg

So after a clean up I got the first coat of Por15 on them pictures to follow

Crossmember painted two coats of Por15 gloss black

The same on the trailing arms

Hopefully tomorrow I plan to carry on sanding down the chassis

Looking good Martin, the blaster did a really nice job. What are you going to paint the engine with?

I have already got some VHT Chevy orange . I got it to paint the old 307 . luckily enough I didn't get round to painting it before I sold it , so I will use it on this engine instead .

Lot of Martin's work is behind the scenes, and I guess working on cars every day, he has to keep his MoJo real strong. I know I get to do a lot of side stuff, but that is to keep the truck in its place. It will get done..... Eventually.

Thanks Bomp I am really looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys in October . The fact it's also my 50th birthday :ennyd:
I can't think of a better way than to celebrate ,than with old friends and new ones . It took me loads of badgering getting Rian to go , but I think he is so pleased he agreed now .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well this morning I got up early to make a start on the truck .
First job was to pull the painted parts out of the carport . Once I inspected them I gave the crossmember another coat of Por15 .
I then installed the new bushes into the trailing arms . It was still a little early to start grinding , so I dug out my new brake callipers , as they needed painting .I prepped them ready for paint , then I put a coat of VHT red calliper paint on them . Once they were painted , it was late enough to get out the grinder and start on the chassis .

Parts out of carport and another coat on the crossmember

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psgnb9zli8.jpg

Close up of the new bushes installed

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pssvp4fehk.jpg

Chassis nearly all rubbed down . I just need to flip it over to finish the underneath

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psp9kn1agh.jpg

Here's one of the callipers all painted

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf9nflr5u.jpg

So all being well I have ordered some Por15 metal prep , which should arrive Monday or Tuesday . The crossmember and trailing arms were sandblasted so they had a slightly rough surface for the paint to key to . As the chassis has been sanded down to bare metal as opposed to being sandblasted it recommends using the prep first

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pspt4jtt3a.jpg

So hopefully I will collect my wishbones next weekend and carry on .
