Heres a few pics of our flash flood in the front yard last night. Got kinda close to the carport where the stepside is. Neighbors been there 55 years and says its been 25 years since its gotten that high here. I normally have about 6-8" of water and it takes almost 3' to crest the road like it did.
The pic of Hardees is about 10min down the road from me. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Wow...didnt realize that much rain came through. It must've just missed us. Downtown Charleston is a mess when heavy rains come....glad I work from home!

That's the same one I have been looking at for a while now. I'm looking forward to hearing how you like it once you install the kit.

I also have your hydraulic clutch conversion and brake mc kit to install. Its been in a box for almost 3 years, but still have it and it will be used. The Novak kit will round out the hydraulic clutch. |

Ordered the last two pieces for the exhaust. The reducers the 1st pieces of exhaust pipe are both 2.5" so they require a butt joint clamp. No biggie.....$6.97 each made from stainless steel and come w/grade 8 bolts. The exhaust can be welded also, but I'm going to clamp mine. Summit Part # 693250
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-693250/overview/ I would have preferred a lap joint like the rest of the exhaust, but it wasn't an option when getting the header reducers....so butt joint it is. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
IMO the band clamps are the best way to go on all the joints. They don't deform the tube like the u-bolt clamps, so you can disassemble the joints if so desired.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Its gonna need lots and lots of grey exhaust goo....at least mine would.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
hmmm....ive been wondering about the clamps over the ubolts. maybe i'll order some more to finish up the system. summit says they don't require anything to seal, but the goo may be an added benefit to ensure a good seal. it will clean up easy too. thanks guys.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I'm getting excited on seeing this exhaust put together! :metal:

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
me too.....
spent most of the day prepping the fleetside front frame and firewall for paint so i can take the front end off the stepside and get it mounted. i have another front end for the stepside. will probably do the piller/floor/cab corner work too while its off on the driver side. the cab mounts look horrible on the driver side. i already have gm sheetmetal to replace it all. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
got the factory tow hooks on. stepside on hold until next wweekend. got a set of hands to help pull the front end. got a bunch done on the fleetside today. will get some pics up tomorrow, my computers having issues.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Couple of picks of the front tow hooks....don't mind the driver side bumper being slightly off and the dirty chrome..just put it back on for mock up, but they will come back off this week.

Was late when I got home. But had enough time to get the clutch covers sprayed. Not much, but even the little stuff counts.

haha....i hear you there. actually the factory paint held up really good. but i can't leave well enough alone and it'd look off with everything else being painted. so a quick scuff, degrease and couple of coats later.... its getting there though, one piece at a time. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Went by Wilson Off Road in Fayetteville today. They are the go to guys for anything gearbox or 4x4 related. He's going to do my posi conversion for me. $300 for time and labor plus the rebuild kit (just new seals, fluids, shims and seals). I've already had the posi rebuilt and carrier bearings pressed on. And 3-4 day turn around time. So the rear rend will come out here in the next few weeks and get rebuilt. Be nice to have both wheels move under the big block. .......or should I say spin?

Been a few weeks of being very busy, but back on the stepside tonight. Got new cab mounts enroute (just ordered some for the fleetside too). Will work on getting the front crossmember out after work this week and the new one in. Also need to mock up and drill the mounts for the front sway bar. Then frame trimming for the headers and we'll drop in the engine to see where else we need more clearance.
Did get some time to mount the captain fab clutch and brake cylinder bracket, will get pics tonight. Just a little frame work left on the stepside and it'll be ready for paint. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
That there looks a bit like Ol John Lee's faded blue tailgate on the left!
