Re: 73-87 4x4s
figure i can do one post and be done with it, list of all the square bodies ive owned.
my very first 4x4, 1983 s10 blazer. i think around 1998 2.8 4x4 manual transmission http://i.imgur.com/jrKrqScl.jpg few months later i got this truck - 1984 gmc jimmy 305ci 6 inch lift 38 inch tires http://i.imgur.com/PLWzLACl.jpg after about 4 years that thing literally fell apart so i found this suburban in a local impound yard for $200, it was stock when i got it. 400ci 6 inch lift 38 inch tires http://i.imgur.com/82pvm2sl.jpg same fate, few years later after offroading it the body became so tweeked i had to let it go and found a old military blazer for cheap so had that for a few years - 6 inch suspension, 2 inch body, 400ci engine http://i.imgur.com/IVaOt0Yl.jpg around 2010 i had the itch to get a pick up truck for some reason so got rid of the blazer and found a k30 really cheap and still have it to this day. the plan was to make it the new off road truck but when i was done building it, it was way to nice to destroy. 4inch lift 400ci 33 12.50 all terrain tires. http://i.imgur.com/o3mquqBl.jpg here was the only square body i owned that never seen offroad. it was a daily driver for a while til i sold it for something with a little better gas mileage (what was i thinking) 350ci 4 inch lift 33 12.50 tires http://i.imgur.com/QL2JJ0Jl.jpg was in decent shape except for the holy rockers which you can see in the picture... also on the trailer was a 85 s10, cut the fenders off and stuck 35s on it. actually got about 3 years of fun out of that thing surprisingly |

I got a few.
First is my D/D. 87 V20 burb. I got it in stock condition a few yrs ago. It has a 6.2 diesel with no turbo and a th400. I have put a 4" lift( no blocks), warn bumper, 14 bff swap, and a whole lot of maintenance. It often takes my family on 1000 to 2500mile round trips to variuos 4x4 events. I average 18mpg in this pig. We often take backcountry roads that are off the beaten path. I love it. |

My wife's 91 V1500. This thing is fully loaded with options. It has a 8 lug 10bolt and a 14bff rear. 6" full spring lift and 35" Toyo's. We have been to Vegas, Death Valley, KOH, blah, blah. It is on it's 2nd 700r4 and about to get a th400 swap.

Next is my family wheeler. It originally was a 78 K20 Burb. Factory 305/sm465/np205 truck with no options, not even a radio. It had 3.73 geared 10bolt/14bff. It is in the middle of a complete make over. It was bone stock truck. Skinny tires, sagging suspension, it was a perfect start.
Over the yrs it has had 3 motor swaps. I have gone from stock lift, to a 2" and a 4" . I had swapped in 4.10 ratio 60/14 but since then gone to a 4.56 set with lockers f/r, 35 spline outers, Yukon hubs, 1410 rear yoke, HAD driveshafts. I have crossover steering, twin stick 205, tubular cross-members, inboarded rear shocks, greaseable bushings, 4wh disc's. It's been a long run road and I can't wait for the 3dr body swap to be complete so I can start the next phase. 3dr on 43"... |

The body pretty much rotted away. Floors, rockers, a/b pillars, rear pillars, and roof all had for from living on the coast. When I got it in 2010, it had none.
I collected 2donor trucks for the swap. I am going to miss my square bodied burb, but the dream is coming true. Slowly. |

I am going to start tinkering on this soon. It needs a ton of work. It was a factory 454tbi/sm465/np205 truck. Hard to find these trucks. 87 K30. It has a carb 350 now. She needs window regs, clutch, brakes, tre's, wiring repairs, and a 4" -6" lift.

My good friend has a few too. He has a 88v20 burb. Tbi350/sm465/np208 (factory equipt) with some over sized tires and a swing out tire carrier.
He also has a 89 GMC V2500 that we just swapped a hydro 465/208 into. No lift, just like his other one. |

Here is my '87 that I have owned for 26yrs. Did a repaint on it a few years ago. One engine rebuild and have had the trans and transfer case rebuilt once as well. When we did the repaint, I had the grill surround painted body color. I like the way it turned out. I had to retrieve the nephew's Subaru, first time using my new car trailer.

This is my late father's last truck.1987 V10 Silverado. He gave it to my son before he passed and we had to have a lift..Looked for several years for the Warn combo kit and I had the M12000 winch.

Couldn't pass this one up
'85, 454 motor w/ SM465, A/C that still blows cold.
Title says it was a C30 & SPID has the fluorescent yellow as factory paint (PO sprayed the blue over it). Obviously a conversion truck to K30 from research looks like done by American Fire in Kansas (looking for more info on this) has D70 frontend and plated frame for suspension hangers. Will start a thread on it all soon. |
