There is a guy in Sapulpa Oklahoma that will blast your frame and epoxy primer it and paint it black for $300.00 Call me if you want his name, you cannot buy the paint and sand for what he does the whole job for. Or if you want it powder coated I know a guy who does them for $600.00 Kieth

Joe got sidetracked by a couple squarebodies. Now that he is up in Alaska, he's probably concentrating on staying warm

Heck, our question is how did he end up up here in Alaska? Did he bring the '66 with him? Hope he can still work on it sometime and get it finished...

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Lol

Sorry guys!!

Yes the '66 came up here with us. My oldest son and I spent a 3 week marathon Putting it back together and drive-able before our move up this past spring. I flat towed it from Oklahoma to Alaska with my lowered '82 CCSB.

It will never leave the family as long as the wife and I own it....

Unfortunately, I don't have a garage up here. The poor thing is covered in 3+ feet of snow. We are hoping to find a place with a garage this next summer so maybe progress will resume...

I'll try to get a pic of it in the daylight tomorrow.

Well, it still looks tough and neat under the snow... hopefully you find a place with a garage. It is great that you got it back together to bring up. Good luck with finding a place where you can work on it and hopefully get it all done. It is also great to find out that another Alaskan loves old trucks and such!

Nope, it sure isn't... shipping is high.. I tried to buy a '70 Chevy 4X4 with an inline 6 from a guy here in Akiak, but I can't talk his wife into selling it. Seems they bought it new and she doesn't want to give it up. Any parts that I have brought in have been expensive to do so. (and those were actually for trucks that I was working on for other people, I don't even have a truck (or car for that matter) here in Alaska at the present time.) I have to get my fix for old trucks and cars by going online.....LOL :metal::metal:

That's how it usually goes for me anyway.

Sadly a lot of the bone yards up here gave in to the Chinese crushers and this last summer they cleaned or thinned out their yards. One guy did not pay enough attention and the crushers got a limited Presidential edition Lincoln....
Luckily though some of the older guys held onto the popular classic rigs. One yard up here has at least 10 of the 60-66 trucks that I can scrounge from.
Otherwise the only saving grace is the no-sales tax here in Fairbanks.

Oregon does have a State income tax (Nevada doesnt). Im not familiar with a yearly dividend, so Im guessing not.

Your "truck lot" is starting to look alot like mine there joe...lol. A guy can only resist a decent deal here and there. When they start piling up whats a guy to do other than stockpile! hahaaha....or at least that is my excuse.

Can't wait to see progress on the 66'

I was just giving you crap.
IMHO, if you can handle Alaska's long, cold, dark winters there is no better place to live. :)

joe231 01-16-2012 12:30 AM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Although I do really love Oregon, Washington is home, and no state income tax there. Sales tax on the other hand can be pretty annoying, with hospitality tax (hotel-restaurant) being the highest of the cash register taxes IIRC.
For really really big purchases, anything over $1k, Missoula MT is just a quick 1.5 or 2 hour drive up and over Idaho and they have no sales tax there either.

Sorry to jack your thread some there Joe...
We seen some of the pics of all the snow you guys got... One sequence of them made me laugh though. One pic said there was no where to put all the snow, then the next one showed a bobcat pushing it into the ocean.
Had to chuckle on that one.

Seriously though, you guys got zotted !!

No worries on the thread 'jack ;)

I love the snow!!
I'd like it to keep dumping!!

Back from the dead, My how time flies...

We gave the '66 some much needed love this weekend. We are in mid process of swapping the transmission. The 700R4 in it lost everything but 1st gear. We are also going to put some 99-00 Cadillac Escalade bucket seats in it and possibly a newer center jump seat. I also have a plan in the works to build a gas tank out of the big tool box we inherited with the truck.
