Re: 198Plus build
Ronnie, you ready for more surprises?
First I put a few more braces for support just in case. That way if it does want to sag down it won't. I did it on all four corners. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03164.jpg Rt A pillar cut out, almost. It took a while to see how they put everything together. I need to cut the kick panel higher, but don't want to until I get the patch panels. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03144.jpg Here it as of now. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03146.jpg I didn't realize that they replaced this much of the floor. My question is do you want to remove everything they did and start over? I will let you make that call. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03145.jpg You can see the burn thru marks in this pic and the double wall on the kick. Maybe the patch panel will enable me to cut all of this out. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03147.jpg The rear cab support has some pin holes in it. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03148.jpg They wiped right over rust. Gotta love that. It was flaking off in spots when I was grinding. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03153.jpg I figured I would see where the patches stopped on the lt side. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03154.jpg You didn't know you had a double walled floor did you. I left it that way for now. Because the patches I listed for you will not repair this. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03156.jpg Lt A post http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03161.jpg More pics coming in a few minutes............... |

Can you body wax the rust on the inside of the braces that you can't get to or shoot POR up in there?

Re: 198Plus build
The black box and then the black oval behind the text does not seem right. Does it not stand out enough without them? Maybe if they were both the same shape? Overall I like the concept & colors.

Re: 198Plus build
Looks saweet!! You gonna put that logo on the door of your old truck when it gets done?

Re: 198Plus build
Now that I look at it, you're right........Changes in the works ;)

Re: 198Plus build
Nice shot Alan
As we know, when the support rots out (and/or the floor) the small tube that surrounds the mounting bolt is usually rotted too. That piece doesn't come with the replacement support nor the floor section. Can you post up some dimensions on this tube,ie length, diameter and wall thickness, also I assume it's welded to the support? I have never seen this part in any calalogs Thanks T |
Re: 198Plus build
Looks great. Have a magnet sign made so you can take it off your truck when you don't want it. Just use it when your parked in front of your shop. Should be an attention getter.

Re: 198Plus build
I advised Ronnie that we should go ahead and cut out the metal that had already been replaced. That was a good idea. Because the drivers side wasn't welded to the cab support.
Here it the driver side patch that was removed. Notice the spot welds, not good. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03190.jpg Here's the double floor on the drivers side. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03192.jpg Still something going on on the Left kick panel to fire wall. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03195.jpg Did some more digging and found this. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03198.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03196.jpg The passenger side was welded better. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03187.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03188.jpg I believe I got all the patch work out on the passenger side. The sand blaster might reveal something on the pinch weld. It is loaded with filler. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03189.jpg I ground some of the filler on the A post gutter. I knew there would be issues after seeing it covered up. They need to be drilled off and replaced. I have to look to see if they are available. Both side are the same. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03199.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03200.jpg More decisions to be made in the next post........... |
Re: 198Plus build
Firewall decisions................Need to determine which holes to weld up. Here are some pics for Ronnie to edit and circle which ones he wants filled.
Rt side http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03173.jpg Lt side http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03172.jpg What about these extra holes somebody added? http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03203.jpg I know the clutch rod goes thru one of these but what is the other? Maybe the speedometer cable goes in the smaller one. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03202.jpg Here are some of my recommendations. Double check me Ronnie. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03201.jpg Referrence pics of mine. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03178.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03177.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03176.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03175.jpg |
Re: 198Plus build
Well it's got to get better

Re: 198Plus build
Ronnie wanted the tar removed from the bottom of the cab. It's a good idea to remove this stuff before the blaster. The blaster won't remove it.
Before http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03204.jpg Driver side after http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03207.jpg Passenger side had more on it. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03206.jpg |

Firewall on your truck rocks.:metal:

Re: 198Plus build
Thank you Alan
I have my floor piece and support so shouldn't be too hard to get the right length. as for wall thickness I'll just go overkill, 1"x .125w T |

Re: 198Plus build
to the guys asking why you have alan do yours , when you own a body shop, I understand....I know quite a few body shop owners(including alan!), that have to put thier projects on a back burner, to cater to thier customers...
smart thing having someone else get yours done! |

Ronnie, I can't find any new gutters for the A post. They might be available somewhere, but I can't find them. I will try to replicate them. Don't worry I'm not gonna charge you for the labor to figure out how to make them. ;) If they turn out nice I will step up my membership here and sell them to others that need them. Did you get your estimating system in yet? If not, you need at least a set of crash books to give you an idea of what to charge. Are any of those insurance jobs? That restoration will need more than one quarter panel. :haha: |
