Looking good....keep it up!

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
I really miss you when you are gone man, your build is one of my faves to keep up on.
All shiney and stuff !! Keep it up, your boxing in of the drip rail is unique, cannot wait to see how it turns out for you! |
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Your absolutely fearless, but a great eye for fixing the ugly. This improvement is genius, they don't look right with the gutters cut off, but this is cool. Totally agree with McMurphy.

I've been eyeing that rack and pinion conversion from Rob at NoLimit and I think I'm going to pull the trigger pretty soon. It's time to make sure the pullies clear the rack and the steering shaft clears the headers, etc. I'm also going make a plan for the fire wall when I have the engine in there to mock everything up. |
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Dude....
Every time I come to this thread I learn something....You have a great eye for detail, and some mad skills. |

If you're going to take this project on make sure you have plenty of wire in your welder, gas, flap disks, and patience. It took almost two full days but it's well worth it.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Nice job Graig. Lot of work, huh? :metal:
|
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Yeah, after making templates, cutting, forming the pieces, it's basically two stitch welds all the way around the top of the cap. Then grinding and more grinding. Looks nice though.
|
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
WOW, that sure does look good!! Now thats a lot of welding and grinding. I know I dont have the time or patience for that. Great job!
|
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Awesome job on the drip rail!!! What are the details on the steel use? How many hours?
|
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
My first thought on seeing the pics...'wow that's alot of spot welds' great mods are worth the effort.

I made an engine hoist plate today out of 1/4". I'm going to have to get new engine mounts, because I'm going to buy the NoLimit rack and pinion conversion and in order for it to work I have to mount the engine in the rear holes. Once I get the mounts and rack worked out I can figure the headers out and make sure everything has clearance.

Great thread, apologize in advance if my question is answered some where in your build thread....I too have a long bed, just panels and rear end cut off, and want to know what is the exact length in front and back of wheel well? Basically want to have someone weld it up into shorty....ANy info would be greatly appreciated... Thanks, el_bole:ito: |

I cut the old trans member out today. I should have done it long ago but didn't know where this project would end up so I left it. No need for it now.

I stabbed the engine and trans back in to figure out the engine mounts. I'm going to a 4x4 shop tomorrow to see if they'll bend me a couple 1 1/2" chromoly 90's so I can fab them up myself. After I get the mounts worked out I'll get to the drive shaft, rack and pinion headers and fire wall.
|
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
I was going to make my own mounts also. Looks easy enough. ;)

I'm checkin, but I don't know what it is. You could have taken the plastic off or is that part of the surprise?:uhmk:

I welded up some temporary engine mounts to position the engine and fab some new mounts out of some dom tubing. I've been waiting for parts to make sure it's in the right spot before I go any further. I still need the fron accessory drive but I got the No Limit rack and pinion conversion today. I only had about two hours so I'm half way through it. There have been a few things that need modification but all in all it's going pretty well. I'm going to have to figure out what to do about my sway bar because the tie rod ends need to be in the same place and that just doesn't work. More on Friday.

I got the rest of the rack hooked up loosely and the Air Ride sway bar is not going to work. I think what I'm going to do is either get longer links to raise it up over the tie rod ends or cut the mount off the end of the sway bar and make a new one. I'll try shimming the link up first to see if I get enough clearance. If not I'll make a new bar end.
I have no experience with steering linkage but I don't think the angle of the u-joint is going to meet up with my stock steering shaft. I know I need one more u-joint on the shaft up by the fire wall but I don't think they'll line up. I'll have to do some research. Pay no attention to the mock up pipe engine mounts. :lol:I had some .120 wall dom tubing bent for some new ones but I'm waiting to get the front accessory drive before I weld them up. |
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Hope this helps.
https://www.borgeson.com/Designing/basic.jpg BTW, greg if you have 4 independent bags with 4 switches, you won't even need a away bar. :metal: |
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Hmmm. Maybe a double joint. Thanks, Dennis!
|
Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.
Wow, double joints are over $200:banghead:
