My 4th was spent with some truck time and some Honey-Do's thrown in...:mm:

Started the day off making sparks...:metal:

Just about completed the driver's door… got the mirror holes finished out and that area in primer… Finished grinding the nails for the hole filling… following the grinding, and a skim coat of filler, more sanding, a skim coat of Glaze…
THANKS JMo!!!:metal: I called it a day, didn't finish sanding the door… After all it's the 4th and there was some fried chicken and a cold drink calling my name… :bann:

A little progress, but progress nonetheless...:uhmk:

Started getting ready for the frame swap… :uhmk:
Started off by clearing floor space in the shed by finishing the bodywork on the Driver's door and getting the worked areas into primer…;)
Pulled the motor and trans from the tweaked frame, then played musical chairs with the frame and cab...
Got the cab in the Work Area, ready to start some metal and body work to get ready for primer...:metal:

Thanx Brotha!!!:metal: Missed your call yesterday...:waah:

Had a crazy day yesterday, Was woke up at 0430 and then unable to get back to sleep…Then after doing my first tattoo, my son Jeremy called, he and his fiancé' were stranded in a local grocery store parking lot with a broken Alternator belt… Soooooo, the hottest day of the year so far, I was lucky enough to help him change the belt...:waah: Seriously Black Blacktop, and not a cloud in the sky… and of course, NO SHADE!!!:dohh:

All that just to explain that after a slow start this morning… it was off to the farm to change the oil in the Boss' Honda, then TRUCK TIME!!!:bann::metal:

Got the tarp off the cab, prepping for the metal work and bodywork that lays ahead…
Then put the Passenger door on the work table (2 Sawhorses and 2 2x6's) and proceeded to get the mirror holes filled...:uhmk: 16 penny nail heads fit perfectly...:metal:

Oh Yeah, today beat out yesterday for the hottest day so far, 98 F and extremely humid, Heat index was 104 F...:waah:
Thankful for fans...;)
Here are some pics of the mirror holes…Before, during and after… :mm:
Next step is sanding the entire door looking for any other areas that may need addressing...:sumo:
Stay COOL Guyz and Galz!!!

Agreed....nice idea using the nails!! Nice progress

Ta2Don 07-14-2014 11:24 AM

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanks Guys...:mm:

The nail head idea hit me while I was preparing to fill the custom trim holes on the Driver's Door I picked up… I wasn't looking forward to cutting 6 little plugs with my cutting wheel, so I started searching my plethora of junk in coffee cans... Seems I have trouble throwing anything away… I may be able to use that later mentality came from my early days in the military and my boss who was the king of hoarding…;)
…Anyway, when I moved the bucket of 16 penny nails, that rarely gets touched due to my purchase of a framing nailer, and the proverbial light bulb lit...:metal: So I grabbed a nail for a test fit, and BOOM, fit perfectly...::hot:
A quick cleanup on a wire wheel and then break out the
Spark Makers!!!:metal::metal::metal:

As for stealing that idea, that's one of the perks of this board… I have stolen quite a few and am happy to share my ideas, so that they may be stolen...:uhmk:

Jojo seems happy.

Do you "collect plates" or just have a bunch from cars you owned before?

Was hoping to get up to Dwcardfan's today to fetch my new to me frame to replace my bent one…Alas, Life sucker-punched me...:waah:
No Worries though...:mm: I did get the passenger door primed, and did that while enduring a very hot July day here in Arkansaw...:waah: Heat Index was bouncing at the 108F mark… Then at 8:20 this evening it was still hovering around 102F…

Here are a few pics of the door before and after primer… Also one of JoJo catching some wind on the way back into town from the farm...:uhmk:

Let the frame mods and cleaning begin… Soon anyways...:mm:
Started out just after 7am…;) Was able to get the time, and the son ready to roll early… After filling the petrol tank and our bellies with McD's Breakfast Biscuits, JoJo crashed on Jeremy for a good portion of the ride...
After a couple of hours we were in Strawberry Arkansaw visiting with Donnie, AKA Dwcardfan...:metal:
With the help of his tractor, we loaded the frame, checked out his build, scored a driver's side stepside fender sans spare cutout, and gave JoJo a chance to sniff around Donnie's farm… :bann:
We also got to check out his Camaro, but I forgot to get any pics of that sweet ride...:banghead:

Here are some pics of today's trip...

I also scored a 305 and 5speed out of a 95 Silverado for 300 bones… the motor is going in the Dodge Ratrod project…;)
Picked it up on the way home from picking up the frame…
…and here is a pic of the fender from Donnie...:metal:

Thanks Clem!:mm: Step bumper has the Dealer name and city stamped in it (George Kell, Newport, AR), and there is also a painted front bumper that is straight...:uhmk:
Gotta get the frame ready to clean and paint… which involves pulling the front crossmember and rear end… gonna transplant the 85 crossmember and sway bar and power steering box from my frame, since I have my 12 bolt axles modified to 5 lug, I'm going to roll with it flipped on top of the leaf springs… which in turn involves a C Notch… :metal: I gots to get busy…;) Thankfully this August appears to be starting off cooler than usual...:bann:

Was great to get caught up on you build and new project. Nice haul on the frame, motor and trans. Smiled when I saw the nail welds, wasn't that long ago we were just beginner sparkers:devil:

Hope the rod project goes smoothly for you! Not much time left on that counter. See you next week.
