You have to get cool air in and hot air out in order to cool it effectively...as a general rule, air won't go in if it can't get out. It's the air passing through that actually does the bulk of the cooling. Louvers facing the airstream on one side and facing the opposite direction on the other side (or top) should work........anything to allow air to pass through and not stagnate inside.

Some good news. Someone beside me has a hansome face now! I put the trim rings on the headlights and grill. Putting the clips into the grill trim pieces took a bit of time, as did putting the nuts on the dash pad. It turned out nice. I noticed that there are some hole on the front bottom side of the dash pad, but there was no hardware. Anyone know if screws or bolts go into these hole?

Bad news, I tried to start the truck today and well nothing. Not even a click from the starter. I did hear a click coming from the Accuair relay and the Accuair control pad was flashing. At one point the arrows on the control pad were red. I'm not sure what all that means. I haven't had a chance to check the manuel. I thought that maybe the battery was low and tried to jump it, but still nothing. I hope it is nothing big.

I think my power steering box is leaking. I noticed a couple of small puddles on the ground below it. It felt and tasted like power steering fluild. If I have to replace it I think I would get one of the Early Classic ones that have a tighter turning ratio.

Today I made a mock up of my speaker pods and door panels to help me decide how I want them to look. The area next to the speaker pod will be a map pocket. Im still trying to figure out how the arm rest is going to work.

The drawing looked good on paper, but I wasnt sure how it will look until I made a 3D version. I like it so far, but I still have somethings to figure out before I throw some fiberglass down.

I love the look of speaker area but honestly think (while very functional) the map pocket will date the panels. When I see map pockets I think conversion or mini vans. Maybe it's just me :D

A very good point, I will keep it in mind. What else could I use that area of the door for? I think it would look odd if there was nothing in the place of the map pocket.

I originally came up with the map pocket idea because I lost half of the glove box with the vintage air system and just wanted additional cargo area. I was also thinking a making part of the map pocket, a cup holder, but there is just not enough room between the seat and door. I also plan on putting a amp and sub woofer behind the seats. I guess I could include more cargo space there.



The small rectangle panel that appears to be part of the speaker pod is going to be door to the compartment for the electronic cross over.

I definitely think it'll be functional and honestly don't have a better idea of a use for that area and do like how it continues that depth of the components to the end of the door....

It's not like it'll be pleated vinyl with buttons :haha: so it might turn out looking pretty nice...and as VWBeamer said....most new vehicles have them...

...I'm just not used to seeing them on show trucks which is definitely what your truck is!!! :metal:

Jugernot, I agree with the map pocket. I think just having the speaker pod on the bottom will look more like just a box screwed to the door to accomandate a speaker and would not flow well by itself. Especially if you are installing a longer arm rest the bottom of the door will not look proportioned without the map pocket. Just my thought.

Thanks for all the input. I have seen the many kick panel speaker pods, but don't care for them. I do not want to move the dimmer switch either. I do plan on making something for the kick panel, but no ideas yet.

The one draw back with the speaker pods on the door is that when the door is open it takes away a good portion of the room for getting in and out of the truck. I will have to be careful with my feet. I don't want to cut into the inner door.

Nice work!I was eyeballing the firewall on my 69 project today while i was stripping the floors,i need to fill a lot of the same holes!
Except the hole for the heater,it gets cold here in nebraska and i plan on driving this one! :lol:

You were right and I'm glad you were right. I took the battery to Napa Auto Parts and they hooked it up to the battery tester and it was only putting out about 4 amps. So they threw it on the charger for a couple of hours, but when I called to check the status, they said the battery was no good. So $105.00 later and Lauren and I went for a quick drive around the neighborhood. I was so happy that it wasn't something more serious. I ordered a "Battery Tender Jr." That I will hook up while the truck is sitting unused in the garage.

I was just going through some pictures from when I first bought the truck. So I thought that I would share a BEFORE and AFTER pictures.

When I originally bought the truck it had a narrowed rear from with some really fat tires. After I purchased the truck I learned that the back half of the frame build was done incorrectly. So I had it redone, by what I thought was a reputable hot rod shop in Sacramento, but months later found out that one of the frame rails was welded on crooked. So realized it was best to go with a complete original frame.

I took a break from the door panels and installed the carpet. I hope it will cut back on some of the heat from the exhaust. I started to put the seats back in, starting with the center seat, But found the went the center seat/console was in the up position it rubbed against the rear of the cab. I have to do some trimming and drilling on the base of the center seat.

I was wondering is there any differance in the pedal assembly/hanger between the auto and 4 speed versions other than the clutch pedal itself hanging on one side?

I have a question about Jute padding. The carpet kit I bought came with some Jute pad that covers the lower part of the fire wall and goes down to about where your feet rest.


Do I need to spray some adhesive on the Jute to make it stay in place?

If so, should I glue it to the sound deadner on the floor or to the underside of the carpet?
