Well got the tach all hooked up.....She fires up at 1600RPM when cold....Once she calms down idles about 1050RPPM...Is that high for my engine? Turned the idle screw a bit but it wouldnt go lower

Also the Radiator hose wasnt extremely tight on the block so it squirted out a bit on the block and valve covers...BOOO! Lol

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Seems a bit high, but not too bad. Does it sound like its idling high? It also might idle slightly higher till it warms up, then will drop to like 8-900. I don't know though. The rest of your guages look like everything's good. I think idle is a little bit a matter of opinion, as far as how low to go.

JRANGER 12-23-2012 06:57 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

I heard its suppose idle around 700 but i dont know for sure on an 82 305....It was warm when idling warm....It idles much higher when cold almost 2000RPM

New CD Player means more adjusting....Had to trim the bezel some more and then trim the CD player ring to get it to fit better with out trimming the red border on the bezel

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Hmmm. I remember it was idling high when we were up there, but then after your test drive it sounded pretty good. Does it sound high now? I've always adjusted idle by hearing, so Idk much about the range. You might just need to drive it awhile and see if it settles down.

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Yeah it sounds fine to me except when cold...Then it sounds high and i have to let it warm up and rev it a few times to get it to idle down.....Im clueless haha

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

They are supposed to idle high for a few mins. Idk about 2000, though.

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Haha you're too young to be having memory problems, you better be using head gear practicing for your fight! lol

I'll help you with it when I get back. I think your idle is normal, it could be a fuzz high.

JRANGER 12-23-2012 08:02 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Ok im thinking it has something to do with a fast idle screw that i cant find to save my life...So basically its something to do with the choke

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

OK finally i found the fast idle screw...I have the fast idle down to 1750 or so...And ive gotten the idle down to high 800s....May need a better spring as it was 900 and i pulled the throttle back so not sure it will last with my spring in place

JRANGER 12-24-2012 12:10 AM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Ordered dual throttle return springs from Advanced for store pickup tomorrow...Gotta love 20% discount lol

JRANGER 12-24-2012 12:35 AM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

yeah one on each side but that doesnt really change my idle at all

Just curb idle and fast idle screws
