Got my valve covers back. They look awesome. I also had the 67 only handle plates added to the back of my Nos door skins and had the door lock cylinders sunk into the door skin.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Wow those valve covers are perfect! Nice work

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Beautiful work on those valve covers. And gotta love those handle plates. I just went out and looked at my Burb doors, and the area behind the door handles are all scratched from finger nails. Could use a set of three of those plates. And those locks should have been recessed from the factory.

Thanks. I am very happy with them. I took out my torque converter from the box yesterday and found a plug on it. Turns out you can have a drain on a torque converter. I have never seen this so I thought I'd share.

I liked the valve covers so much that I added script from a th400 deep pan to my original 67 pan and added a drain and a spot for my temperature sending unit.

Got the transmission pan powder coated. Also got my cloyes cover for roller cam. I have to put 1/8"spacers in behind my water pump to make it work. Hopefully soon I'll get the engine to the machine shop.

This is how I decided to run my power seat and heated seat harness. I may run my done lights and fuel gauge here too. It's a flat ribbon body harness from a 66 pontiac. I just shortened it to the length I needed it to be. Goes under the rug. Slick and smooth. I'll weld some tabs on the floor when it's finished to help hold this flat and out of damages way.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Is that timing cover a vintage part??? or something currently available???
|
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
It's new. Allows you to run a modern roller cam easier in a pre 86 small block. One Thing I wanted modern was a roller cam so I don't have to worry about oil zinc and you can't really notice this cover with the short water pump on. Looking good! When are you getting the machine work done?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
It's almost done. Then I can get the block painted and install the drivetrain. Can't wait

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I could not stop reading this thread after I opened it this afternoon for the first time. From '71 to '73 I was a make-ready man in a Chevrolet dealership. I installed many of the factory accessories you've found (or, I should say I've installed some of those accessories many times!). It brought back many memories. There was a couple of big bins in the parts department full of those GM accessories. If I remember correctly, the 8-track players were called "multiplex" on the box. Fond memories of simpler times! I wish I had a dollar for every dealer-imprinted rear step bumper I hung, mostly by myself, back on the concrete, holding one end up with my foot and the other up with one hand, while I stabbed two bolts with the other hand!

Now that my small pieces are dry I wanted to replicate what gm did with the plug Wire holders. I bought a small can of plasti-dip. Turned out perfect. I touched up my Nos engine and trans mounts as well. Just where gm left the metal raw when they manufactured them though. Made sure not to cover up part numbers. When it dries it's a perfect match to the rubber.

I finished off the lid on my air cleaner. It kind of has 2 lids now. What I did was I added a lid from a 65 ambassador to the inner part of My air cleaner. It sits perfect with the bumps on the lid of my oil bath lid to hold it down. Now the oil bath lid is really just for show and you will never tell there is a paper cartridge in it. And it uses the exact same size filter a 67 would have used with a factory paper filter. And if I have low air intake I can drive it without the oil lid on and use it just for show.

Got my decals back from the shop and been working on my transmission temp gauge. This is how it will look. I wish the colors could be closer to the original gauge color. I will keep looking for a shop who can get a better color but otherwise it looks ok. I also changed my temp light ( only used for dummy lights) to a tow light. If i turn off the variable pitch converter the tow light will come on and I won't burn out the transmission.

Here is how the back looks. It doesn't mess with the printed circuit and it uses an independent harness just like the electric tachometer does.
