Re: Post those wheels gallery
The 15x12 fit in the rear without any modifications? What backspacing do they have and what tire size you running on those 12" wheels?

Re: Post those wheels gallery
New guy here and new to the 67-72 trucks. I have been looking all afternoon for the answer and there are so many combinations I am not sure what will work? I am hoping someone can respond and help please
Looking at buying a 1971 GMC 1500. The truck has original 5 lug front disc and rear drums. The truck is lowered 5" in rear and 3" in the front. I am looking to buy the Rocket Booster Classic Muscle Wheel | Gray from Coker Tire. Not sure what size rims and tires and back sizing? Thinking 20x8 and 20x10 rims from what others are running, but not sure what backspacing?? I would like of the rims/tires to fill the wheel well and sit flush (or as much as possible) to the edge of the fender. Any opinions and/or pics of your set up with the tire size and backspacing. Thank you!! |
Re: Post those wheels gallery
The homework that I did led me to purchase 20x8 fronts with 4.25 BS and 20x10 rears with 5.5 BS. I am hoping that they will fit just inside the wheel wells, so I can play with my air ride and not rub. I know that there is a difference in axle housing widths of .75 inch on each side (1.5 inches total) wider for my 72. I am fairly certain the 71 is the same but 70 and below is narrower. Im sure someone will correct me if I am mistaken. I dont have my body on the frame now so I cant take pictures and show you.

Here's an example. I had 22x9.5's with 5.75" BS on all 4 corners of my 71 fleetside. I had rubbing on the control arms and shock bodies up front, and the larger wheels wouldn't let the front ride or air out as low as I wanted. I now have 19x8 4.75" BS and 20x10 5.5" BS without issues, but I'm not running factory spindles or control arms. It will also depend on how wide of a tire you add to those wheels. Your best bet would be to measure them yourself. You should always check on your own vehicle to make sure what you're buying will work, before you spend the money. Figure out what's on there now and how much more room you have to go, and use a good online tool like https://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp to compare what you have to what you want. This tool isn't going to replace actual measurements, but it will sure help get you in the ballpark. |
Re: Post those wheels gallery
Thanks Duane for the feedback. It's a fleet side and and everything is stock except of the lowering. From what I can tell, a 20x9 with 5.5 backspacing and a 8.5 width in the front should work. I will check out the site. Thank you.

Re: Post those wheels gallery
I have some wheels being made right now at a place in cali, Pro wheels is the company I think. These will be either a big hit or a big flop. 22x10 5.5 bs/20x8.5 4.75 bs.
They are going on a 68 sbss. We have been poking at for over 10 years. Its a frame off build. We should have the wheels in 3 weeks. I will post them once they are mounted up. |

Re: Post those wheels gallery
These were just put on this week. So adjustments on the way. Lowering the rear 2". Also considering cutting this rearend 1" off each side and doing disc brakes and a posi unit.
We are rushing to finish this up for the HotRod power tour which starts next Saturday in Bowling green KY. |

Nothing special here. Just your standard set of 15 x 8 chevy rally's on 275/60/15 BFGs. I'm looking to go 20's, but there are a few wheel options that I like its hard to make a decision. I may just have to have a set for each day of the week.
