Re: GM Semis
I understand the short wheelbase, what I should have said is how it doesn't jive with the cab configuration / rear tin work on cab.

Re: GM Semis
That round metal case looks like it could be a spare tire carrier . Pretty odd shaped compartment .
The previous pic of the semi from Kentucky was about a 52-53 model 350 or 400 . |

Re: GM Semis
Where is that Mercury bunk on the Crackerbox from the Overdrive MAG ? Looks like a standard GMC sleeper cab to me. BUT the JI in the next post, sure looks like a Mercury bunk .

Look at the vent window on the sleeper sure looks Mercury to me. |
Re: GM Semis
Dan,
If you are referring to post #970, it may be an MH ?? Looks like another early Model too, '66 or '67. Bill |
Re: GM Semis
Wow, the L.A. Factory Branch. Some memories there. Way back they were located on Washington Bl. near down town. Company my dad worked for bought trucks there. Sometime in the late 60's they moved to Alameda Street. I used to go there in the 80's, taking trucks there for warranty work. That building is still standing, it's a shop for L.A. Unified School District. Still has a Detroit Diesel sign on it. Around 1990 the Factory Branch moved again to Santa Fe Springs. They never became a White/GMC dealer, just sold light and medium duty there until they closed. Heard GMC closed all the factory stores at the time. It's a Navistar dealer now.

Re: GM Semis
I wondered the same thing about the Crackerbox, isn't it an integrated body from factory? how does Mercury play in? I am sittin' here questioning someone who knows trucks more than me. got my ears on lookin' to learn, that's all. Thanks for that picture and the beautiful MH (?) in 970!...and for making this thread what it is.

Re: GM Semis
Yeah, at first glance I thought # 970 wasa 90" BBC, and did go back and forth to view it. But with no notch, bulge in the front wheel opening, I guess it's a mighty MH. And it's sleeper could be a Mercury.
And the horizontal vent in the Crackerbox don't make it a Mercury sleeper , and the fact it blended in because of the shaded area, I missed the reference entirely . |

A wide fender C 80 with 10 hole Budds and air is my cup of tea;)

Re: GM Semis
Looks good.
A '63 Model. Most likely a West Coast truck. Kind of interesting how most Budd trucks are West Coast and most Spokes are East Coast. |
