With a new Desert trip a month away, I finally started processing footage of the trip from last year. Here's the two I've got put together so far.

Enjoyed the heck out of all three videos, guys. I’ll be web wheeling until my camper truck returns with another new transmission... I’m not paying for this one at least.

We did a test run for a Desert trip last weekend. Here's a look at the highlights.

Re: post up your camping pics

My buddy's 8.1L/nv4500 powered M1009 on tons. It was the first major run on a frame up rebuild. It had a couple of teething issues, but nothing we couldn't manage.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...80136f5d_b.jpg

Mud below 9500 ft, snow up to 11,500 ft. Higher we got, the deeper it got.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...59fb645f_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4ee24c38_b.jpg

Then I hit a deep spot. High centered the whole thing on some glacial hard snow. Took the Jeep and Taco tied together to have enough holding power to winch me out of said hole.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...512f2fdf_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...51efde36_b.jpg

Good prep run for the trip. I've got a couple of items to shore up in the camper to keep the rattles to a minimum.

Re: post up your camping pics

I missed out on Larry's Desert trip this year. Really bummed me out but I had to cover for a co-worker who's father was dying. So all that prep went nowhere until last weekend. My Jeep buddies were making a quick overnight run to a local high mountain lake with family. I had to work on Saturday morning, but I was only an hour away from the trailhead. So I brought my dog to work with the truck packed the night before and headed out once I closed up.

Some changes have happened to make for more efficient use of space and time when in "camp" mode. One of which is the Chuck Box. This is all the cooking gear in one Pelican Case. Get to camp, yank it out of the back and pull the stove and table out to get cooking. Plus it's weather tight and dust proof to stay outside.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7de1036e_b.jpg

Changes inside include a new bench and a way to eliminate the bulk of coolers. Yep I got my own Fridge. ARB 50L. One of the guys from the desert trip upgraded and had it for sale. I was going to pick it up on the trip, but since I didn't go, the boys brought it back for me. Gamechanger for sure.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ae66d871_b.jpg

Happy Doggo ready for adventure!
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bb0694a4_b.jpg

Since the group had gone up much earlier in the day than I did, I ran the trail solo. I didn't stop and take many pictures from the outside as I just wanted to get up the trail. This is at the Bottom of the Rainbow Lake trail.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a70f57aa_b.jpg

Gaining Elevation, you can look back into the valley I came from. Also, many burned trees in this area from a fire 8 or 9 years back. The Aspen Trees are coming back in force.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a7cc0fc9_b.jpg

Close to camp, they set up at the edge of this creek.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ca55df83_b.jpg

Once in camp a few minutes and it's all set up. Beer:30 time.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...54cb5ef6_b.jpg

Storm and I walked down to the lake to check it out for the fishing. The lake is higher than anybody I was with there could ever remember. Record Snow levels from last winter have many of my favorite trails still closed. The lake is so high there is no shoreline. It's up to the base of the mountain on two sides with a scree field of rocks/boulders making it a challenge to navigate. My buddies tried for hours and didn't get a bite.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ec0033a3_b.jpg

Further across the lake.

Storm exploring around the creek.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d5185d18_b.jpg
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...59b27bb1_b.jpg

I offered up to cook for the group. I carry a 20lb propane bottle in the camper so no running out of 1lb coleman bottles. Jeeps can't carry what I can..
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...398081d7_b.jpg

After Dinner my buddy Shane takes up the BB gun to protect the camp. He's a nut.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...64c4c794_b.jpg

My view from the bunk the next morning. Storm was warm and toasty. Never turned the furnace on since it was so warm overnight.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d5a1cc5e_b.jpg

Morning sunlight on the lake.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c21cb11b_b.jpg

Coming back down. This spot is significant to me and Larry. We had come up here May of '17 to prove out our rides prior to the Desert trip. There was three snow banks that led up to this spot. Without going into full detail again, Larry's truck had both right side tires off the trail right here. I was able to extract him with my winch and we backed down to a wide spot to camp for the night.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3d9e704d_b.jpg

The snowmelt runoff is very heavy for this late in June.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9e15a261_b.jpg

Dropping in elevation again, the valley comes back into view.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...11ce6bf4_b.jpg

I would have liked to be out longer, but longer adventures will come later this summer. It was good to get some dirt on the tires though.

Yeah, where was that?

Not off road, not in a tent or camper, and not far away from civilization, I did a job on a 1925 cottage along the Severn River near were it enters the Chesapeake Bay and I camped out in my Suburban for four days. I used their crab traps and caught dinner while I worked all day. I did the cooking and eating on their little point of land. It was quiet and peaceful in the evening through the morning. All day the sounds were of people going out on boats, coming in, and swimming at the beach and docks next door

I was up at my mom's in the mountains two weekends ago and I caped out. Nothing vehicle related. I hiked upstream along the Youghiogheny River and tent camped. It rained to beat he!! that night and the river was rushing and at a high level. I took two pictures in the morning before my battery died. It rained 3-4" that night

took the mutts out to Ruby Creek, some natives built a real cool trail threw the bush.
it's called restorative justice, built by wayward teens who got on the wrong side of the law. they did an awesome job, too bad it's way off the beaten path and hardly anyone knows it's there.
thy made some cool carvings and they are scattered throughout the bush
