Got the A post gutters removed and the seam sealer removed around the top of the door area so the blaster can do a better job. I'm glad I removed them.

I told Ronnie the brass in this joint is not factory. To my knowledge they didn't use brass back then. Y'all correct me if I'm wrong. I told him the shop that did the floor work could have done it. What do you wnat to do with this Ronnie? It could open a can of worms?

What a wasted day today. Some how the info of what was needing blasted and the condition of the parts didn't get to the worker. Long story short is the cab got 1/3 blasted and that was it. Due to the fact that he didn't bring enough media with him. I'm aggrevated due to the fact that nothing got accomplished and today was a great day to work out in the shop. That's what happens when I'm not in charge of the situation. I'll get off the soap box now. Here is what got done and what was found so far.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03285.jpg

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03282.jpg

More brass, it was scattered around in different locations.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03283.jpg

Found more floor patch work just to the inside of the inner rocker.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03277.jpg

Supplies the guy brought with him, just for the record.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...b/DSC03290.jpg

The parts he brought so far for the record. The inner rockers was not what I ordered. I specified the complete inners. What's here 2 outer and 2 inner rockers, 2 kick panels, 1 cab corner, 2 A post dog legs.

He used 4 bags of soda an brought a little sand for the stubborn areas.

was he using a soda blaster or a sand blaster spraying it. And also how does that epoxy primer compare to others like DP90

I can't say for sure, but I think it was a soda machine. I also can't say anything about the epoxy primer in the pic. It came from Ronnie's paint supplier. I don't have any experience with this product, and have never heard of it.

Ronnie I sent you a PM last week about some guy wanting some of your parts on the other forum. Just wondering if you got it.

Re: 198Plus build

I'm sure you're aware of this Alan, but for the others reading this. It would be a good ides to contact the manufacturer of the epoxy primer to see if they will approve their produst for application over a soda blasted surface. Several paint companies will not guarantee their product when applied to a soda blasted surface. PPG is one of them.

Your right Capt. This epoxy can't be used on soda blasted parts unless it is cleaned and neutralized. Ronnie is picking the cab up soon to get it sand blasted.

I need item 6 in this pic. I got a plain inner rocker patch pictured below. I'm sure you can find it cheaper, just using this pic as a referrence.

You might try one of our new vendors here on the forum, topbananaparts.com I just received an order of patch panels from them today. They are Key Parts brand and upon initial inspection they look good. Top banana has some of the patch panels for the '60-'66's on sale right now too.

Thanks guys. But I think we have discovered a big problem. Read on...........

Ronnie all along didn't believe this was his cab and upon further inspection he might be right. When he had his cab in the first shop that swapped his doors might have swapped cabs as well and swapped the VIN plates. His VIN plate doesn't have the rossett rivets.

The first pic is his. The second pic is my cab and the third pic is the cab I have behind the shop. What's y'alls thoughts.

The last pics is the stuff that came off my roof when we had our first rain since the blasting got done.

65Custom 09-11-2010 09:00 PM

Re: 198Plus build

I agree that the rivets look like they are not factory, but I also cant compare mine because i have removed my plate to make a repair.

One other comment here is that if they did remove that plate they did a heck of a job as when I was taking mine off it did not come off all that easy and has some marks where the rivets spun so in thinking about that I think you would see some marks from it being removed no matter how careful you were in taking it off

Just a thought

tiggamonsta 09-11-2010 11:35 PM

Re: 198Plus build

The blasting may have hidden any marks. I would say it has been removed. The question is when? I assume Ronnie does not have any photos of the VIN before he had any work done? It is unfortunate if someone did swap a cab on him. I hate when people are taken advantage of. Why can't people just be honest? At least we know the cab is in good hands now.

Alan, I always admire how you put everything out there for people to see. That is how my father built his business, and was how I was raised. Everybody may not always like the truth, but at least they can make a decision with all the information.

ConnDemned 09-11-2010 11:57 PM

Re: 198Plus build

In the third pic the cab still looks painted? But the vin plate is nice and clean, but a little bent up like they did indeed remove it. The more I read about this thread/ build the more like a damn soap opera it becomes ( anything that can go wrong has/will go wrong) sorry to read the latest, hopefully you guys can get it all fixed and enjoy this truck.

Re: 198Plus build

Yes it does appear that the VIN tag has been removed at one time. Although that doesn't necessarily mean that the cab was swapped.

Man that is some nasty looking stuff coming off your roof Alan.

Re: 198Plus build

Well, it looks like this build has come to an end. Ronnie came over last night and picked his cab up. Due to the recent discoveries with the cab, Ronnie is pretty sure the cab got swapped. He remembers the condition of it when his dad still owned it. Ronnie said the truck didn't have much cancer due to being parked under a shed when his grandfather owned it. I feel sorry for Ronnie, if the cab did indeed get swapped.

Perhaps time for Guido to give those fellows a vist

Re: 198Plus build

JMHO, I think at this point and after all the work that has gone into it I would just keep moving forward as long as the VIN is matching to your title and frame.

I agree with the others I sure would like to see him finish this one it will have some good stories behind it once it is finished.

Ronnie needs to come out here and look for another cab, or look on E-Bay. He can be on vacation and do some shopping. There's deals around. I'll keep my eye out. Next June I'm trailering my bike to Kansas on my car trailer. I'll have room for a cab if Ronnie finds one out here. He can meet me. Better than going all the way to So Cal. :metal:
