Re: pdx-sanity66
I'm getting ready to start installation of the door glass and I need to order the felts, etc. for the installation. All of the hardware for the window cranks has been rebuilt and the vent window rebuild is done. What felts did you go with and what is your opinion on them?
I was able to get some epoxy on the front bumper, C60 grill, and the interior door panels. The bumper is ready for final prep and paint so it's going back on until paint time. |
Re: pdx-sanity66
I used Precision seals and felts for my doors. The fit wasn't a problem, but I am a little disappointed that the outside of the seals/felt thingys in the window channel/door frame have already faded. I would assume that's from sitting in the GA sun all the time since I don't have a garage to park it in. They still seal well though, so I have no motivation to change them out.
The rear bumper is fitting up real nice |

I got the new window glass delivered so all I need is the felts and I'm ready to install the side glass. Here are a few pics of what I'm working on. all of the door glass parts restored and ready for installation, final coat of epoxy on front bumper and ready to install until paint, the toolbox center console ready for clear coat then assembly, and the console base and cup holders are ready for paint and the door panel being straightened. |

I put the front bumper on today. All smooth and ready for final prep and paint. This is my original bumper that I stripped, sanded a little, and shot the epoxy. No Other work was needed.

Thanks for your comment, sir. I am very happy.with it so far. I will be changing the grill with my C60 grill once it is ready.
Right now I am finishing the install of my cab floor vents. I put them in with a few screws just to get them out of the way. Now they will be permantly installed. The pass. side is done and the driver side is close. I also now have all the parts together to start installing the door glass. I got my order from Steele rubber and it is really nice. |

i got started on my door glass installation. The pass. side is done except for the felt window wipers. The driver's door is next but I'm waiting on a new regulator.
The one I rebuilt is just not quite right. Here's a couple of pics of the door and the inside floor vents with the handles on the bottom rather than the top of the vent. |
Re: pdx-sanity66
The new window regulator is being delivered today. I hope it is early enough that I can get the driver's side glass completed. If not, tomorrow is another day. I've also been working on the front of the hood. There are just a few slight quarter sized dents after I blocked it out that I'm slowly getting done. We're having a cold spell, so I have to hold out till it goes away. Sanity is almost assembled as far as I can before paint.

Re: pdx-sanity66
Cant wait to see it painted!

Re: pdx-sanity66
You're doing a great Job, the little things also take their time, but you're always making progress.

Re: pdx-sanity66
Biggest problem people seem to have is the window not wanting to go up all the way because the metal at the bottom of the glass hits the felt wipers. There's a lot of threads on this subject and there's a few ways around the problem. One way is to cut new glass that's taller so the window closes before the metal can hit. What I did was pinch that bottom metal in the vice so it just fit the glass. I then used windshield urethane to fasten the glass instead of the rubber. If you go to a glass shop at quitting time you can get part tubes of urethane for free because it just hardens up overnight.
And new window regulators are a must. I thought my originals were good but they rattled and my drivers side window would come down a bit from road bumps. |

Well, I had to take a break on the fuzzies. I got the same problem that many have had and I need to take some time working it out. I decided to prep some areas to work on and get some more primer on in the next few days. We've got some warmer weather coming this weekend. Other than that, I have very few things that I will do before painting the truck. I know it's going to be a wait to get that done, so I'll keep on blocking out the body until then. I've got the nose of the truck ready for final primer. I can then get the park/turn signal lights installed for now Other than that I need a front end alignment before I drive it.

Re: pdx-sanity66
Looking good! Excited to see paint. Here in Oregon we've been in the mid teens at night and mid 40s during the day. Won't be to warm here till about April.

Well, it's been about a month since I posted, I have been keeping up with other's posts. I've been getting some things done along with some other stuff on my to do list. Sanity is licensed, insured, and drivable. I then took Sanity for a 30mile round trip to get the front end aligned. I had no issues at all. The front needed very little adjustment to get it right. Pretty good eyeballing it in if I don't say so myself. I have also got the center console installed. It still needs the inside of the box finished, but it's in. So, I am now waiting for paint, and I need to get a little more driving in before I change the break-in oil. I will also change the trans fluid. During the change I will remove the temp break-in filter and install the temp sender for the trans temp gauge. I have finally got the gaps in the doors set up pretty good for now and I'm still working on my hood. I took the hinges off of the C60. I cleaned them up and they are in great shape. Much nicer than what's on there now. I painted them and they are ready to install.

Re: pdx-sanity66
Congratulations, I'm glad your truck drives so smoothly.
Nice details in the Cab, the rear bumper is great. I'm also looking forward to moving mine, it will take a while. |
Re: pdx-sanity66
Heck yeah buddy, always a great feeling and motivation when you get to drive them. :chevy:

Another thing Is I have a body and paint guy lined up to paint Sanity while we're in Portland for 6-8 weeks in June and July |
Re: pdx-sanity66
I've been driving the truck trying to get a few more miles on it before I do a fluid change on the trans and an oil change I've got break-in oil in the engine and I want to take out the temp break-in filter in the trans and I want to get the trans temp sender installed and get my temp gauge operating.
The truck is running very well now and I'm having a blast driving it. I've also been working on the dreaded side window fuzzies. Ugh!! |
Re: pdx-sanity66
Glad to hear you're getting to enjoy it even though you're still working on it. Thanks for the update!

I've slowed down a bit on Sanity right now. It's going in for paint in June so there's not a lot of things left to do until then. I have worked on the bed sides that had 4 or 5 quarter to half dollar sized but very shallow dents in the front part of the bedside that I believe I did while aligning the bed, oops. I have one of the dent pullers that uses glue on tabs that hook up to a slide hammer. This worked great and I was able to remove the dents. I'm ready to spray some epoxy on the affected area and also spray the interior door panels that are also ready. |

I'll be leaving for Portland in the middle of June with a stop off in Utah to visit my brother and sister on the way back. While we're gone, Sanity is going in for final block sannding and PAINT. I will be getting progress pictues while I'm gone so I'll try to post some. Stay tuned.

Re: pdx-sanity66
Now that's some exciting news! All the work will soon finally pay off
|
Re: pdx-sanity66
We're back from our annual trip up north to Oregon. Sanity is in getting final blocking and paint. I'm going to start on the bed wood finishing while the truck is gone. The heat wave we're having in Tucson is slowing things down. 110+ degrees and monsoon rains. I can get in a couple of hours in early in the morning before the heat sends me into the house and the AC.
|
Re: pdx-sanity66
So close! Can't wait to see it painted
|
Re: pdx-sanity66
While the truck is out being painted, I have started on the bed wood. I got all of the holes drilled and I'm setting up to start sanding. Another HOT weekend coming up, so my work time is limited. I really need to get some AC in the shop but that's not going to happen for a while.
|
Re: pdx-sanity66
Man, I am with you on the heat thing. It is unbearable. My shop doesn't have AC either but it is at the top of the list. This summer I got hit with 'heat exhaustion', intense head aches, throwing up, 100 degree body temp. All the symptoms for 2 solid weeks. Be careful out there... its real and its dangerous.
Does beer count as forcing fluids? I know, just hoping. |
Re: pdx-sanity66
I know exactly what you mean. I try to get out early enough to a few hours in but by noon it is 100+. We've had more than a week of 110. Make sure to drink lots of water or other liquids of choice. I got a 30 in. pedestal fan pointed directly at me.
Anyway, Sanity is being prepared for paint. The bed is ready and Bryan is working on getting the hood blocked out, plus other stuff. I'll try to post some progress pics later. I've been working on my bed wood. I've got all of the holes drilled in the 4 edge boards and the next 2 boards that have the holes drilled for the inner fenders. I then went ahead and wiped them all down with grease and wax remover before sanding them on all sides and ends with 220 grit sandpaper and slightly rounding all of the sharp edges that might splinter. I then sanded the top sides with 320 grit sandpaper. Except for a final wipe down, they are ready for the first coat of finish. The bed wood is from Mar-K and it is high quality and needed very little sanding. I'm very happy with choosing white oak. Now I've got 6 more full length boards to do the same thing with. |

I've got the first pictures of Sanity's paint. The bed and hood are done. He'll be working on the cab & fenders next. The front grill and bumper are back from powder coating.

Re: pdx-sanity66
It's going to be great, it's mighty warm where you are.
Here in northern Germany we had a lot of rain and a maximum of 20 degrees/ 68 degrees Fahrenheit in the last few weeks, today it's sunny and warmer. I look forward to seeing your finished truck. |
Re: pdx-sanity66
Thanks Harald, it's been tough getting things done. Today was the first day in a record 63 days that it didn't hit 100 deg. and a bunch of 110+ days. If I can get up by 6am I can get in a few hours. I am about ready to start applying the oil-based spar urethane over and over again with sanding in between. Now that I'm seeing the paint color I think the bed will look great (I hope).
