Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Well that progress was short lived, after I finished the painting on Friday I headed of to work to let it dry on the nice sunny day. When I was at work the weather started to change drastically and started to pour rain for 10 minutes. I just dried of all the water now and about 80% of the paint job got watermarks all over it. So I'm going to wait a while until the paint fully cures and try wet sanding it, I'm really hoping that it'll work and I don't have to redo it.

Made some more progress on the rear end today, I rebuilt the rear brakes with new shoes, wheel cylinders and springs, since I used the 78 backing plates and brakes I ordered the wider 2 3/4" shoes, so now its upgraded a bit better than stock |

Been making lots of little progress, just not much picture worthy... But I did get the heater all assembled and installed on the truck for good now. Tomorrow I'll be finishing a pushrod for the brake booster.

Yesterday I finished up the brake pushrod and installed the booster for good. For the pushrod I welded part of the old one to part of the new one, it's threaded and has a locknut so I can adjust the length if needed

I welded a nut on to the diff cover and put a short bolt through it with an o ring for making oil filling much easier.

Today at school I used the metal lathe to make some pieces for my hydraulic clutch linkage. I turned down some roundstock and used my tap and die set to thread them. The threaded hole on this piece attaches to the clutch master cylinder and the threaded stick-out part threads into the rod end. The lock nut is to make adjustments and tighten it so it won't come out of adjustment |

And the top piece here is threaded all the way through and attaches to the pedal and pivots on the rod end

While I was doing this I decided to adjust the clutch pedal to a height that I like, it's about inline with the brake pedal (The angle of the picture makes it look out of line). I still need to add a pedal stop pad to prevent the master cylinder from bottoming out and also add a clutch return spring.

On Friday I finally got the rear end all finished and buttoned up and I brought it home from the school shop. All it needs is a little paint on the cover and the adjusters to be set correctly

And a close up of where I had to redrill the box so that all of the holes lined up with the frame. Now all I need to do is weld the boxed portion of the frame back in place and buy some longer bolts

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Great work on the clutch hook-up
