The Terras they came out with in their final years of light truck production were about the same thing as a SWB, but with top swap abilities like a Blazer
I had never seen or heard of one of those before!

1975 was the last year for light vehicles, right?

The first generation Scouts were all over the place in Colorado in the 1970s, along with the Toyota LC. As they say, you couldn't throw a cat without hitting one

I believe '78 was the last year. I think their proper name was Scout Terra. They were their Tahoe, between Scout and Travelall. Have you ever seen a rare 3dr Travelall? They're as rare as a 4dr 67-72 Suburban

Did someone say Travelall?

Not your style? Not what we were seeing running around in our younger days. More like these

You know IH did panel trucks too, right? You could get them 1/2 Travelall and half panels, too

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

Goodness, you found a lot of them. I didn't know about the panels, I don't think I ever saw one.

For some reason I like those "wide mouth" IH pickups of the 1960s.

That style is almost modern again. Put a chintsy plastic bumper on it and it would fit right in 2021

I dunno 'bout that. I think you would also need to fit in some sort of little halo lights around the headlights. The modern man gets excited over such things
Which one are you calling wide mouth, the late '50s/early '60s style? I like how the changed the truck all around the grille from the mid-'50s style. If you mean the next wider grille, I guess I see those as wide eyed

Like the red fire truck.

Those other two almost look like a modern Toyota.

Gotcha. I remember my next older sister's boyfriend had a little blue short bed 6 cyl/3spd when I first got out of high school. I like how the body gets wider at the bottom. They look really stable. Especially the 3/4t 2wds

That red utility box fire truck looks like it has a 73-87 Chevy bumper in front of that diamond-deck extension

...

Well, I've had enough square bodies to know!

My 73 came new with a painted white front bumper, but a little later when I worked for the dealer I managed to snag a chrome bumper out of the scrap metal bin that had been replaced under warranty for some scratch that I couldn't even see. It was all about asking the right manager for permission ;)

Years later I think I gave the white bumper to some kid who had a Chevy pickup with a totally mangled front bumper.

Looks like a billy goat! I'd like to see it in action.

Since I showed a White someone did a killer job on building a super tough 4wds out of, I will now show one factory built & converted from new. This is one of my favorite old truck cab styles, it's a dump truck, AND it's 4wd. What's not to love??

It's hard to beat that White dump for cool factor, but this Dodge W500 I saw last weekend does a pretty close job

Saw that IH Travelette from post#953 at the same show

Since this was a national antique truck show there was a good variety of "off brand' heavy iron

Some pretty cool trucks, I haven't ever heard of an antique truck show on the west coast.

This national show rotates around the country every year to a different region. Last one in CA was Pleasanton. Since that one there has been one in Yakima and Portland(?). I'd say CA is about due. There is an ATHS chapter, or several, in CA. I'm not sure of the chapter name, but there is one that has a nice show every year. The member who hosts it on his ranch runs yellow GMC with chrome stuff

Neat Ford

Thanks. 175th medical battalion. Not sure how my Grandfather got that assignment as he had no medical background. He was discharged a Captain. Just stumbled across that photo last week.

Oops, I mean grandfather. I don't know how the assigning went, but I imagine there wasn't a lot of time spent on deciding. Just get 'em over there! My dad signed up at 17, so not much experience at anything but play lacrosse.

Went to my local ATHS chapter's annual picnic yesterday. An old friend of mine has a feller with a small collection of older vehicles he does their upkeep for. Currently he has this '57 IH 1200 so I invited him to bring it. It was a big hit with our small crowd

You're tired of the fires and the trucks remind you. I'm sure you can appreciate each and every one of them and wish there were more. So sorry to hear you have lost family history. That's a real shame

Coming home Sunday evening I passed three Scouts while still in the mountains. They all had soft tops and had a rugged trail look, slow laning it. Not over the top rock crawler, more in line with the vintage and what we did back then. No pictures so let's see what I can come up with

Something like this

It was neat that they seemed to be returning from spending time out in the mountain wilds camping and enjoying them as they were meant to be.

Big change here. Still an other make 4wd, but BIGGER. Built to enjoy in Germany and shipped here for the young family to see America in. '74 Mercedes
