I'm in Wichita Falls. I lived in Hurst for a bit a few years ago and I used to spend a lot of time in the H-E-B/Haltom City area.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

I wish I could. Money is so tight right now that I can't afford to tag and inspect the truck this year. Hell, the last time I put it in a show was a Dust Off in 2004.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

Yeah. That's what happens when you start getting older and life gets in the way of the toys. Marriage, kids, house, job and all the related requirements just don't leave much room in the budget for the toys. But, several vehicles have come and gone through the years, but the truck and I have been together for 14 years now and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. A couple weeks ago I did put a new head unit and some HIDs in it, though. First thing I've done to it since '03.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

lol dang
do you drive it often?
my truck is my daily driver so i have to keep it up and runing and tagged lol

1badgmc 05-06-2010 03:25 PM

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

Not nearly as often as I should or want to. I took it out twice last May. Once for inspection and then I took it out for a Saturday drive. The wife and I took it out on a Saturday night a couple months ago. I don't dare drive it in the daylight right now. It's a cop magnet right now what with the tint and then the expired tags and soon-to-be expired inspection. It's been retired from daily duties since June of '01.

mosthatedk5 05-06-2010 03:28 PM

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

dang lol yeah i understand the tint thing lol i have to be on my gaurd around here lol see a cop and roll down the windows haha

1badgmc 05-06-2010 03:32 PM

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

My eyebrow is 11" and the doors are limo. I need to trim the eybrow back to a more acceptable level and I'll have the doors redone in either 20 or 35. It's getting bad up here. The last I heard, a tint ticket from the DPS in my county was $235. Troopers and the local motorcycle cops can sniff out illegal tint from 10 miles. On something that stands out like my truck, they can smell it from 20 miles. The guy I use for inspections got busted for passing a car with illegal tint a while back, so he won't let it slide anymore either. :(

mosthatedk5 05-06-2010 03:38 PM

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

dang that sucks man. i dont have tint yet on this truck but my last truck was a classic and i use to get pulled over all the time and the couldnt do anything about it cuz classics dont have tint laws lol
but i know a few people that will do the inspection thing so ill be good cuz i dont have any cats on my truck and im about to have limo tint to lol

1badgmc 05-06-2010 03:41 PM

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

Actually, in 2003 they got rid of the grandfather clause for pre-'88 vehicles. I had an '87 Caprice for a daily that I bought partially because of that law, but it's nil now. :(

mosthatedk5 05-06-2010 03:43 PM

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

really? i didnt know that
i had a cop about to write me ticket for it sometime last winter and then he said that he couldnt do it cuz it was a classic? hmmm weird

1badgmc 05-06-2010 04:35 PM

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

Well, then you got lucky that he was still oldschool and hadn't heard about the updated laws. "Classic" had nothing to do with it. It was just that pre-'88 vehicles were exempt from the tint regulations. I believe the reasoning was because they didn't start enforcing tint regulations until '88.

OK here it is, 1988 GMC 2500 regular cab. 350/5.7 auto 2X4.

Got a ways to go, but I'm slowly getting there. Still need to fix passenger door windows and locks (power). Replace radiator and general mechanical fixes. Nothing too major.

I'll second that! I keep thinking about doing this when my engine gives up or I get bored. How hard was the swap? Did your gas mileage improve?

well i still have some work to do with the gauges so i haven't been able to tell with gas mileage since my gas gauge hasn't been working but it was mostly straight forward. my truck originally had the 4.3l v6 with a 5 speed so i had to go buy motor mounts from a v8 truck from this era and then i just used motor mount adapters and i also put in a 4l60e transmission. I would recommend trying it, my truck is a lot of fun to drive now. I don't have a documentation of the build but i do have more pictures if wanted.
